  • Chinese coaches focus on the shot quality in table tennis. Let's learn how to improve your shots quality by shortening the stroke. Chinese National Coach gave a good tip to Ding Ning to increase the power and explosiveness of her shots.
    At the new level, you need to do the longer stroke. Longer stroke helps you to master the new skills. But then, you need to shorten it.
    Special thanks to: ppsmick for the training footage.

    In France many player DON'T want to work hard, they just think to have fun and if your are talented you will be a good player! It's a crazy way. When I explain to my friends the right way to learn they smile! "Hit with the legs and power from the ground is to difficult I am tired of my journey so I take tensor to do the job in place of me" . Coach are doing a lot of exercices in the same session and take care to the fun attitude in place of serious training, so young players stayed at the same level and when they are 20 yers old they want to be better? It's to late guys sorry but working working and again working each movement is the only way. Thanks ERT for all your vids it's a gold sun.

    Em Rat Thich, this is exactly why I play table tennis more like regular tennis. I have been watching some of your videos and started to improve by using "power from the ground" - using your legs and hips, and as a result, all of my strokes are so long (more like tennis strokes - and in addition, I do not use my wrist). I feel that I would be a better tennis player than I was before from having worked on my table tennis game, if I chose to start playing again. However, as far as my table tennis game goes, I feel like you had mis-led me the wrong way. I feel like I am doing everything else right, except because of my much longer strokes than the rest of the players at my club, I just cannot recover for the next shot fast enough. That is why I feel I can apply the same techniques to tennis (or even pickleball if I were to flatten the ball out more) and I would have more time to recover and so I could be a decent player in those sports.
    I just do not understand how to shorten my strokes. Again, in all your other videos which I watched, I took and did exactly the tips which you advised me to. I have gotten better, but my opponents still take advantage of my lack of recovery in this super fast sport.

    Hi Coach! I've learned a lot from this video!
    Just remember that when you're talking about someone in the third person, you should say "him" if it's a male, and "her" if it's a female, not "him" reguardless of the gender.

    Coach, by saying "shorten the stroke", do you mean shortening the amplitude of the stroke or shortening the time to perform the stroke (higher velocity of the movement)? I guess it's the latter, isn't it?

    Open question! I do the opposite, firstly I prepare a flip and then change to a chop/push. I believe this is more effective because the opponent needs to go from a more passive attitude to a more aggressive attitude which requires more effort. Should the player show they are going to attack and switch to a chop/push, or should the player show they are going to chop/push, but end it with a flip? What do you think is more effective ? Why ?

    May I pls ask an important question: weight transfer- is it leaning to the right leg and then to the left leg (for the right handed player) or is it twisting to the right, then untwisting to the left. In other words: is it rotation around your vertical axis or leaning around your vertical axis? Merci, c'est quelque chose dont je suis pas sûr

    • @pingsunday
      @pingsunday  6 лет назад +4

      before the shot, all of the weight is on the right foot. The right foot is lower. At the moment you hit the ball, all the body weight is shifted to the left foot. The left foot is put in front of the right foot. This force will hit the ball forward!

      poussez avec votre pied droit et stopper votre mouvement avec votre pied gauche. en meme temps tourner votre upper body de droite jusque milieu et de bas jusque en haut. il est important de ne pas twister votre abdomen. cest seulment le dos et les genoux qui bougent

    • @TheCsePower
      @TheCsePower 5 лет назад

      @@pingsunday I found that it is very important to push on your left leg at the end of the stroke. It allows you to recover quickly from stronger attacks.

    Short stroke is not a Chinese technique generally, it is made in Europe, Ding Ning grip is more European than Chinese, still, i agree to shorten the stroke in higher level because it is obvious, you need to get back to ready position early.

    HELLO I AM NEW TO TABLE TENNIS AND I HAVE A QUESTION . CAN A MODERN DEFFENDER USE A HARD RUBBER PLEASE HELP ME AND GIVE SOME EXAMPLE can it be used for fore hand

    • @tacho200
      @tacho200 6 лет назад +1

      yes it can, but i wouldn´t advise hard rubbers at all to a beginner. example: slow all wood blade 5 layers like stiga allround classic and any soft 1,5-1,7mm rubbers. cheers

    • @eijimuroya8402
      @eijimuroya8402 6 лет назад

      If you are new in table tennis you sholdn't start playing as a chopper (Modern defender). It is a complicated style and in my opinion, you should use long-pimps rubber if you want to keep with that style. About the hardness of the rubber, hard rubbers are not good for beginners unless they don't have much money to buy other equipment. Medium-hard or medium-soft rubbers are excellent options to start.

    This seems to be counter productive though doesn't it? Practice for a longer stroke but once you master the stroke, then work on making it shorter? Why not just practice the shorter stroke to begin with?

    • @pingsunday
      @pingsunday  6 лет назад +15

      It seems strange. But it's true! At the new player, player needs to learn the full strokes mechanism, footwork, body, forearm, and then fingers. Longer stroke is a must, because new player need to feel, to learn all these steps. At the higher level, you need to reduce the stroke, to increase power

    • @AAAA538
      @AAAA538 6 лет назад +10

      Because the faster the stroke the more difficult it is to coordinate the body parts correctly. A player is much more likely to have gaps in the energy transfer from the lower body to the arm if they start with fast strokes, hence the emphasis on gradually building up swing speed.

    • @The_Paddle_Smith
      @The_Paddle_Smith 6 лет назад +3

      EmRatThich Table Tennis Coach okay. So this shorter stroke seems more possible for the backhand. I'm just trying to imagine performing a shorter/compact forehand loop and it seems difficult.

    • @canicetang8837
      @canicetang8837 6 лет назад +6

      The key is to master the basics of the stroke. Fundamental elements of a particular shot needed to learn at various stages.
      Once you master the technique of that shot. Then you can make minute improvement on it. Say for example, as you explained in the forehand loop. Most players can make a decent shot when they have time to prepare for it.
      In the higher and professional level. You simply do not have the time and preparation because the ball is coming at you so fast.
      Therefore, you simply needed to have faster footwork to get ready 'early' in prime position. You are already transferring your weight for forward momentum. Also you are twisting your waist to lift the ball with the power loop as the second momentum. The acceleration of your paddle hitting tangentially with ball contact should be at the maximum to impart terminal velocity.
      Hence the coach's of the Chinese philosophy of 'hitting from the ground and with your legs' to transfer your power and speed. Also to note that unlike tennis, where you will require a long follow through. The speed of table tennis will not allow you to do just that. Chances are the ball will be coming back and you need to get ready for the next shot. The fraction of a second of your paddle in the right position will be the key of winning or losing the point.
      Sometimes professional players at the highest level are guilty of 'admiring' the shot thinking that there is no chance in hell the ball could be returned. Only to stare at the ball bouncing on their side soon after their long swing. If you are way out of position, get back as soon as you can. That's why the shorter your swing, the more variety you can have to keep your opponent guessing. Then again, learn the basic first, master them, then incorporate other techniques. Do not have predictable tactics that your opponent can out-think you before you hit the ball.
      The basic skills are important, then the advanced skills will be handy to incorporate tactics. Finally, once you can master the mind game. You can beat anyone.

      But what about the German school? Most of the players are antitechnical and with a shorter swing (thymus boll, dima, francizska, keinath, suss, etc.). Is it because they base their game on tactical tools depending on each technique of a player? I like the German school because they understand very well the axes of the ball that cause errors in other players
      Coach must make videos of Samsonov, boll, dima ... without doubt they are players who have an understanding of the game similar to that of the Chinese, they are very studied by them.

    this trick is to surprise the opponent but takes more risk as well because you won't have enough time to switch stroke option at the last milisecond.
