Another great interview! As Oche said he was quite shy, I didn’t think we would get much from him but he came across very well. Intelligent and an articulate young man who unfortunately didn’t get the best start in life. I’d say the abuse at a young age put in place his mental health issues and getting beaten up triggered it big time. I can understand his mum not wanting him at her home. He smokes rocks everyday. He, as he admitted, can become volatile and stressed about money which basically means he needs money for drugs. Also, people can act very strange after smoking crack. He says he has a good relationship with his mum and believe him - that they love each other and have a bond. His mum just can’t cope with his behaviour. He has been sectioned a number of times. I’m wondering is that because he stops taking his medication or whether it’s the toll smoking crack takes on his mental health. Probably a bit of both.. This is the result of care in the community. When he gets bad, they section him, get him to take his medication regularly and no illegal drugs. Once he’s stable, they let him back into society with no support system in place. He goes back to smoking crack, eventually stops taking his medication until he has to be sectioned again.. I think he should go on a course at college. I think he’d be very good at whatever he chooses to study and it would help his self esteem. He’d start behaving and living in the hostel and a routine would start to make his life better. There’s lots of courses depending on what he likes but learning a trade might be a good start ie tiling, carpentry, plumbing etc or maybe he’d prefer something like accounts or art or theatre. He could go on as many courses as he’s interested in without any pressure. Just thought I’d put that there in case he happens to read the comments. He’s still young and could lead a more fulfilling life. He just needs to try something different/positive. Take that first step and see what happens. I hope he does and I wish him well and hope something good happens for him 🙏🏼
This interview really touched me. Young man, you are very humble and wise beyond your years. You have a gentle soul and I believe that you can achieve a great deal. I am sorry to hear of your current situation. Mental health isn't easy but I think you already know that. Please take your medication as prescribed and try to get on a recovery programme. As you know, the drugs don't help - though may provide some escapism for you (I get it)... I really fear that you could be exploited by those dealers and that makes me sad. I believe that you have a very special gift. Get back on track kindred spirit. You have the potential to go very far... Please interviewer, if and when you see this young man again, ask him if there is anything he needs; clothing, signposting to services etc. Please reach out to him, I would only be too pleased to offer some support.
How is he holding sh9t together and have the words to motivate others, big up Oche [Rios] he has balance and that is sum thing we could all learn from- humbled he is, humbled eye is [to the interviewee, sum times you ask the same question when the person has already told you, this is not the first time you have done this]
Very clever articulate guy hope it sorts out for him
