- Recently remastered with newly obtained higher resolution video to enhance your viewing pleasure! Stars of the iconic and indelible 1984 film "The Karate Kid" and the new hit RUclips show, "Cobra Kai" -- Ralph Macchio ('Daniel LaRusso'), William Zabka ('Johnny Lawrence') and Martin Kove (Cobra Kai sensei 'John Kreese') -- share behind-the-scenes stories and answer fan questions at their 2015 Motor City Comic Con Q&A panel in Novi, Michigan, U.S.A.
"The Karate Kid" is a 1984 American martial arts drama that also starred Elisabeth Shue and the late Pat Morita. It is an underdog story in the mold of "Rocky" (1976). The film, which centered on the Goju-ryu, Goju Kai style of karate, was a commercial success upon release and garnered critical acclaim -- earning Morita a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Ralph George Macchio Jr. (born November 4th, 1961) is an American actor also know for portraying 'Eugene Martone' in "Crossroads," 'Bill Gambini' in "My Cousin Vinny" and 'Johnny Cade' in "The Outsiders." In 2018, he reprized the role of 'Daniel LaRusso' in the well-received RUclips series "Cobra Kai."
William Michael Zabka (born October 20th, 1965) is an American actor, screenwriter, director and producer best known for appearing in several iconic 1980s films including "The Karate Kid Part II" sequel and quite recently in the spin-off series "Cobra Kai" alongside Ralph Macchio. In 2004, he was nominated for an Academy Award for co-writing and producing the short film "Most."
Martin Kove (born March 6th, 1946) is an American film and television actor also known for his film work -- especially "Rambo: First Blood Part II" (1985) -- and for portraying the character 'Victor Isbecki' on the television series "Cagney & Lacey" (1982-1988).

These guys are hilarious. Especially Zabka.
They do these Q&As so well together. Very entertaining, intelligent & funny. A lot of chemistry.
Yup
I absolutely love William Zabka's smile! :-D
🤤 Ditto!!
He's mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!....lol...
Me too ❤
That was cool of Bill Zabka and Martin Kove to come out instead of keeping the fans waiting any longer, while Ralph Macchio was elsewhere.
Ralph has this function in his genes, whatever his age is subtract 30 years.... seriously in the actual movie he looked 14 but really was in his 20s. Now he’s in his 50s and looks 30. When he’s 90 he’ll look 50.
Lol, he is the Patrick Stewart of Karate films then in that case. ;p
@@steveshepard88 , he is the opposite of Patrick Stewart. Patrick Stewart looked 60 in his 30s.
He looked 30s in 00s, could've looked 20s if he wasn't receding but he looks 40s now maybe 30s if he wasn't receding
He definitely doesn't look in his 30s. 40s yes.
@@steveshepard88, Patrick Stewart looked older than his real age right up until he hit a certain point. Then he stopped aging.
Billy Zabka is hilarious 😍
Nice to see Billy & Ralph are good pals as oppose to Johnny & Daniel going at it.
11:30 I love how everyone needed a moment to process what Billy just said. Aw man, I love these guys.
Ralph Maccio is the true image of Dorian Gray, years do not pass for him 😊
I love Billy Zabka so much he is so funny! lol! He is my favorite actor and always will be!
These guys always crack me up in interviews; especially Martin Kove!
I just wanted to say that starting the tv show Cobra kai was the BEST IDEA EVER!! It is soo awesome, I get excited just like when I was a kid waiting for my favorite tv show to start. The writing is familial and great. I hope it will go on for years. Everytime I get into a show a lot they cancel it. I even have had a few dreams about Johnny and his students!!! It's a great written show.
Martin kove is the true legend out of the 3 guys. Hes such a humble guy. And in such a gentleman in real life aswell ive only heard good things about him. Ironic as hes known for primarily playing A HOLES. Billy has a very forward outgoing personality where as i can tell ralph gets nervous and took several sips of water in short periods while sitting down which clearly was more about nerves than thirst
These guys are great together. Zabka is very funny! A complete opposite of his Johnny Lawrence character.
His character is unintentionally hilarious.
I've watched a lot of Con and interview videos lately and I've never seen Ralph Macchio so relaxed and funny. 🙂
He seems happy to be back talking about new stuff.
When Billy welcomes Ralph🥺
I love that story about "someone" kicking Ralph in the face 🤣
I always thought danial aka Ralph Macchio was cute ☺️☺️☺️
three guys amazing
“ No worry Daniel-san, everything work out, everything be okay now.” Mr Miyagi. - The eternal optimist.
7:04 Jordan Schlansky asking a question.
It’s awesome that after 35+ years they can still feel enthusiastic about their roles in the movie-even if it’s just forced for the sake of the fans, it still shows gratitude and humility.
Ralph looks very handsome in plaid.
Could you imagine if Mr Miyagi wasn't the only Happy Days actor? Scott Baio as Daniel, Ron Howard as Johnny and the Fonz as John Kreese. Sweep the leg Ayyy.
LOL!!!😂
Kreese rules ! 😁👏👏👏👏👏👏
That was awesome x they were hilarious 😂
Loving this
For people who've never heard Martin Kove speak publicly before it must be quite odd to hear how soft spoken he actually is.
There underrating themselves the show is the great!
This panel was from 2015, way before Cobra Kai.
Really?
Met all three of them very nice people.
i cannot wait for season two of COBRA KAI based on Krarate Kids
2 months away from season 4 now.
These guys are hilarious. 😂, I love all their chemistry. That movie with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan, what a waste of a good story. And it’s based in China and he’s learning KUNG FU!! How is it called Karate Kid? Because you wanted to do it for change of color? You know some movies should not be touched. Would’ve made sense if the movie was Based on KARATE! The whole premise made no sense.
Legends!!!
They need to bring Elizabeth Shue back too. That would be awesome.
There's a rumor she comes back for Season 3. I think her coming back will help her stardom more.
I think she gonna b in season 2 not sure when or how big of a role but she will I think as ali
Exactly she was hot
@@cliffordsweet8399 "was"
@@stevestrong5075 she will be in 3
Love these guys 🤩💖
Too handsome ❤❤❤❤❤ there too handsome there ❤❤❤❤❤ please respect
Huh William zabka with a purse lol
Kobra, Kobra, Kobra... Kobra..... Vivan los 80s
The 2010 remake was okay but I like the original better. Jackie Chan was a good Mr. Miyagi. Jaden Smith I could take it or leave it with him as the Karate Kid. Ralph is still The Karate Kid. I'll admit it's been a long time since I've seen it since 2010 when it came out. I'm not in a rush to re-watch it again.
Jaden Smith can take the name as the Kung Fu kid
@@honestjohn6174 yeah. I hope they don't make a sequel he's a bad actor.
free dutch!!! lol
Dutch was busy with his racing company in real life. That is why he didn’t show for Cobra Kai.
Thomas Ian Griffith and Sean Dugan also.
His name is Sean Kanan. Might have been lying but he said he's not in Season 2.
Remember hold dream close me handsome too close back close me love handsome too ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
Wiliam and ralph john
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That echo is so irritating, I cannot watch.
Dan Gheesling aka Dan Gus appearance/mention at 2:09 for all my Big Brother fans. That's pretty awesome.
❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
I find this very frustrating. I wish the ones with questions had microphones, or if they would repeat the question before answering. Thanks
Dear RUclips. Please be intelligent with this series and let's get some closure by the series end(which hopefully will not be for many years). Get Elizabeth Shue involved, so that Ali and Johnny can have some closure and end up together. Try to get Chad McQueen(Dutch) involved so not only can he act in it and bring his son Steven R McQueen(who can play a role as a bad arse student under Dutch's training)involved. He is also an accomplished director who can direct a few episodes every year. His father was the legendary Steve McQueen, who trained under Bruce Lee. Dutch hated Daniels' guts. It would make for great storytelling. Eventually, in about season 5 or 6, you can bring Hilary Swank into the mix. She is not in demand much these days and would make a great addition to share Miyagi stories with Daniel. Keep up what you're doing with building the new generations of the story in Johnny and Daniels kids, but keep bringing in the old school element as well as you did with Kreese.
Well, I do not usually reply to my own comments, but after watching season 2, I am thinking that I at least can interpret not the exact plan of the writer's vision but some general idea of the direction they are going in. From the reunion with Bobby, Tommy, and Jimmy and them talking about Dutch doing time in prison I would guess that they already approached Chad McQueen about doing a guest spot, but were turned down, but left a back door for him to come back in with future seasons with him doing time in prison. I could be wrong but think the reason Chad McQueen turned them down is that he has changed with older age and may be camera shy. Not shy to use the camera as I pointed out in my first text after Karate Kid he took to being behind the camera instead of being in front of it when he started directing. They also had Johnny mistakenly text Ali and although he chickened out before sending the message when that woman bumped into him the message was sent. And we all saw at the end of the season that Ali responded to his text, but Johnny may never know that because he threw his phone into the ocean. This leads me to believe that they also offered Elizabeth Shue a guest spot or perhaps a guest spot with the possibility of becoming a regular. I do not think Elizabeth Shue turned down the guest Spot for the same reasons as Chad McQueen turned it down. Because he is camera shy. I think Elizabeth Shue turned it down because her ego of that she was at one time an established Hollywood movie star, possibly thinking she is above doing a streaming tv series but she is set to start appearing in a new Amazon Prime show produced by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen show called "The Boys". So it's probably the fact that she has made her negative comments made toward the Karate Kid movie, especially Ralph Macchio not being covincing in the role, who she said she could not take seriously in that role of Daniel. I think she dug a hole for herself. Like if she was to come back then she would look like she was desperate for work. But!!!!! Like Chad McQueen's character, Dutch being in jail and having a back door into the series if he decides to do business, The response from Ali on Johnnys phone at the last scene of season 2, is also leaving Elizabeth Shue a back door into the show if she should decide to put her ego aside and return to the show eventually. Anywho
They've proven themselves to know what they're doing. I thought S1 was pretty damn good on its own and S2 blew it out of the water. I have no doubts about the following seasons and the quality of the show.
Speaking only about the characters, not their actors, I don't want Johnny and Ali together. I love Carmen and she is very, very good for Johnny. Also, Johnny already loves Miguel like a son, and there is potential for Miguel and Robby to mend their relationship and become brothers. If Ali makes an appearance, I hope it is not as a love interest for either Johnny or Daniel.
@Joseph Casanova: Actually, Chad WANTED to film the Cobra Kai episode, but had scheduling conflicts. He runs a car racing company, and unfortunately, racing days happened during the day of filming.
Well are you happy with how it turned out
Pat Morita is missing :(
He's there..in spirit I would like to think. He's definitely there in the show, I love how they make him part of this show. :)
Hes there in spririt form
He passed away year's ago most of the 80's fan's of this movie we know that!!!

Will Smith son sucks in new karate kid shitty Actor. ...1984 movie was Awesome. .cobra Kai even better
I agree with Jaden being a low level actor, but the martial arts he did in the film were impressive. The originals 1984-1989 were superior in every way, the soundtracks and mr Miyagi being the some of the best in the trilogy.
Gil Arruda I know it’s no where near as good as the original, I still thought it was a good movie, I think he’s good at acting, especially for his age. At the time he was only twelve, Ralph Macchio was 22 when he was in the Karate kid.
12:12 "Now we are so desensitized (with CGI) that you can just take any building, explode it, and fly through it. It's like, 'Oh it's that.' " -Ralph Machio on the 911 attacks?
Good catch. You might be on to something here. Ralph could be a "no-planes guy" probably because he knows more than what the general population does about 9/11. He's a New Yorker and an iconic actor for a whole generation , meaning he most likely surrounds himself with important people "in-the-know."
Gerard Cayo
No. He's talking about superhero movies like the Man of Steel movie and the backlash it got about its depiction of collateral damage.
I love this whole series. ....they kept the integrity as well as the freshness of each character..
For us that are part of the 80s ...they brought it alive into todays era and made it current
i did notice that women empowerment bullshit crap sneaked in here, with the Daniels wife being alpha & Control...and daughter as well.
fernando dimarco I almost felt like that too about Daniels wife but when I watched it again I disagreed...she’s the level headed character who is more like a miyagi ish person trying to help him find balance
@@Team7_Ninjutsu
I see your point, but hes still not an Alpha male , because she castrates him instead of supporting him more..she does the passive aggressive thing.
If you look at Tv shows, they emasculate men, making the wifes strong & smart while men looking weak & stupid...peep game
fernando dimarco
I agree..ur definitely right about how male/father figure characters are portrayed...I hate it but I don’t feel she was as over the top with it the way most movies tv shows and even cartoons do
@@Team7_Ninjutsu yeah she gets away with it a little better, the series is overall a masterpiece, season 2 is amazing.. I wonder if we have to wait another year for season 3
Why do they say billy

Daniel is the real bully.
Nope. He's a hot head but not the bully. The key scene that sets Johnny and his friends as the real bullies is when they force Daniel down the hill on his bike, potentially causing serious harm. There is no justification for this and they are doing this with pure malice.
"Daniel is the Bully" is a gag on How I Met Your Mother and you nerds took it seriously.
