Roseanne is great. She did a remake of her father's Tennessee Flat Top Box, I'd give both a listen.😘
Such a good song. One of my favorite songs!
Love that song, one of my top favorites. Along with The Wheel (my too fave), I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me, and It's Such a Small World.
Top fave I meant.
love flat top box ! 🤘🤘🤘
Her version of that song is wonderful!,
This song was written about her husband, the legendary Rodney Crowell after an argument at a French restaurant in Santa Monica….
Crowell collaborated with Emilou Harris on the album “Elite Hotel” with the wonderful song “One of These Days”
“Boys say when is he gonna give us some room; the Girls say God I hope he comes back soon” LOVE that line! This was huge, even if you didn’t listen to country regularly ❤
What did it mean, tho? I always think it meant that he's a good looking guy, so all the other guys want him to get the hell out.
@@bonniehirtz5640 That’s what I think it means as well 😊
@@bonniehirtz5640 maybe they were getting sick of hearing all his bitching about women and romance...
@@bonniehirtz5640 It took becoming an adult, but in my later years I interpreted it as that a good chunk of the song takes place in a strip club or a "hostess bar", and he's throwing down money to keep the women's attention. So he's both monopolizing the women that other men in the club want to make time with, and the strippers feel like they've got an easy mark to milk.
"Heartaches are heroes when their pockets are full"...damn what a great line
This song has a hook like no other. listen to it twice and you're hooked.
Back in 81, this song was called country pop. It was #1 on the Country Charts and #22 on the Pop Charts. She had many great songs that appeared on both Charts!!
Ironically, this was Roseanne's only song to hit the Top 100... but it was also her first Country #1 hit. She had TEN total in the 80s. One I might recommend is "My Baby Thinks He's a Train"... if there's ONE Roseanne song that will make you say "Yeah, that's Johnny's daughter", it's that one. I'd also recommend you add "Walk the Line" to your movie list. It's a great biopic of Cash's life.
yes, that's the song i remember her for lol. (i'm in my '60's.)
That movie did a grave disservice to Vivian.
She was really great. I never could understand why. She just wasn't packaged right. She was so cute!
Love My Baby Thinks He's a Train!!
Oh I'll absolutely second the nom for putting Walk the Line on your must-watch movie list!
Another daughter from the Cash-Carter family is Carlene Carter. She is June’s daughter from her first marriage. She is also an awesome singer/songwriter, and one of my faves of hers is Every Little Thing. I Fell In Love is great too.
And the song These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ is Nancy Sinatra, Frank’s daughter.
It is said she wrote this song for her husband at the time Rodney Crowell. He is also a country singer.
Believe it or not, I'm 65 and a week ago was the first time I'd ever heard of her or this song. Stunning voice, great song, great lyrics Apparently I've been living under a rock, with my head in the sand and my mind was in outer space.
Her song Tennessee flat top box is also awesome !!!
Johnny Cash's daughter. So talented. I love her voice.
Love her song "I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me."
Yes -- that's such a great one!
Yes! This is a great song!
Oh yeah!
Yeah I first saw her in the video for that song, she looks amazing in it, then again she always was beautiful.
This song is such a superior, country/pop masterpiece
“Blue Moon With Heartache”, “I Don’t Know Why You Don’t Want Me”, “No Memories Hanging around”, “If It Weren’t For Him” (w/ Vince Gill, “It Hasn’t Happened Yet”, “If You Change Your Mind”….sooooo much more in her arsenal of hits! She really has emotion & pain when she sings her love/heartbreak songs!
Beautiful Woman and Beautiful Singer!!
She wrote many songs about her relationship with her ex Rodney Crowell. Always loved her music.
Speaking of which here is Rodney and Rosanne ruclips.net/video/EFrpzPR6TLY/видео.html
@@arthurwohlwill3837 oh my gosh, I hadn’t heard that! Magnificent ❤️❤️❤️
My favorite Roseanne Cash song is "I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me".
Rosanne is an incredible singer songwriter. She left country years ago and has released one classic album after another. Vastly underrated and it’s stunning how she’s managed to carve out a place of her own that’s separate from her legendary father. Wow!
She is a brilliant writer.
This was a big hit for her. It was a crossover hit, rock stations and country stations played the heck out of this song.
She's a brilliant songwriter, and has a gorgeous voice! Her album King's Record Shop is flippin' brilliant (the song Rosie Strike Back is a MUST!!!)... and her cover of her dad's Tennessee Flat Top Box is just the most adorable song!!
“September When it Comes”is a great song with her dad.
Agreed!
Isn't this this their only recording together?
His last recording...Great song.
Do “I Don’t Know Why You Don’t Want Me” next, great backstory to that one. Roseanne was disappointed in not winning the Grammy for Seven Year Ache, so she wrote this in her sorrow with the full intention of winning next year…which she did! Or something like that.
I used to play guitar for Johnny's brother Tommy. He had a few hits. His main one being "Six white horses". Tommy's son Mark (played with him as well) is still performing as is Tommy. Johnny and Tommy had some duets as well.
I like my rock, metal, pop, punk, dance and this tune. A country crossover hit.
Finally, some Rosanne Cash. This was her biggest hit, but her two best songs are "This is the Way We Make a Broken Heart" and "Runaway Train." There are live versions of both from "Austin City Limits" that you should react to. Her version of her Dad's "I Stiill Miss Someone" is also excellent.
“This Is The Way We Make A Broken Heart” is my favorite by her
Her song "This is the way (We Make A Broken Heart)" is fantastic! Please give it a chance.
She also has a couple of duets with her ex, Rodney Crowell, which are great.
Thank you Thank You!!!
More Rosanne More Rosanne!!!🤙🏽
More Rosanne Cash please with some Carlene Carter as well, can’t go wrong there 😎🍺
I suggest Carlene as well.
I was about to say that!
That family is the roots.
I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me is another great song by Rosanne.
Have you heard Dolly Parton's sister Stella? her hits include "Danger of a Stranger", "The Room at the Top of the Stairs", "Steady as the Rain", "Standard Lie Number One", "I Want to Hold You in My Dreams Tonight".
"These Boots Are Made For Walking" is by Nancy Sinatra who is Frank Sinatra's daughter. The duet of Natalie Cole and her dad was made well after he died. She was just a teen when he died. They just imposed her voice on his track....or the other way around..ha. My favorite Roseanne Cash song is "I Don't KNow Why You Don't Want Me" from the 80's.
You would love her cover of her dad's song Tennessee Flat Top Box
This song has been in my head constantly for 40 years.
Sweet
never left my playlist
Memories from June 1981 7 year Ache was spinning on country and pop formats.
My favorite of hers when I was a kid was "Tennessee Flat Top Box," which I didn't know back then was one of her dad's songs lol.
She is brilliant. She lived in New York City. Very sweet, down to earth, friendly neighbor. Love her music.
Roseanne has such a great voice. I have this song in my play list and I sing right along with her every time it plays. 👍👍
One of her best is Tennessee Flat Top Box.
Love this one of hers ❤❤
Ditto
Love Rosanne’s work!! Tennessee Flat Top Box is a must hear!
I'm not a country music fan. However, I did love this song when it first came out. Way back in the day!!!! Great reaction!!!
She needs to let him talk.
She needs to let him talk.
She needs to let him talk.
She needs to let him talk.
YEAH!!!!! - love her!!!!! one of the most underrated female singers of the 70/80's - she couldn't win for anything as Johnny's daughter she had to walk that line!!! She & hubby Rodney Cowell lived across the street (on Broadway} from me in Nashville back in the day!!!! Rodney was a HOOT!!!!!
If you like this you should hear SEPTEMBER WHEN IT COMES her duet with her dad. You will love it. She has a lot of great songs
You guys really need to add Patty Loveless to your schedule! "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" is great...but she has a huge list of hits. She is also the harmony vocals in many Vince Gill songs...including "When I Call Your Name" that you reacted to.
Yes! Patty Loveless is a must! You’ll never Leave Harlan Alive, live at Austin City Limits is amazing. Also, Here I Am, Timber I’m Falling in Love, You Don’t Even Know Who I Am and I’m that Kind of Girl are must listens!
Kathy Matttea, and Jo Dee Messina.
I live in Harlan county Kentucky and Patty does that song better than anyone I've ever heard .
@@julesa35 Don't Toss Us Away also
And Vince has done backup on some of her songs too.
I was a 19 year old kid and a Soldier stationed at Fort Polk, LA when I discovered Rosanne, had such a big crush on her and loved everything she ever did. I have all her vinyl. Her and her dad weren't getting along all well back then, she cut a song called Tennessee Flat Top Box and found out later that Johnny had cut it years before. They were both at the Grand Ol' Opry one night, not talking, when he was on stage and asked, in front of the entire crowd, if she would come out and do this song with him. Reluctantly she did, but it broke the ice between them. Great move on both their parts to do that.
I love her voice. It's like a bell ringing.
Oh, I love this song!!!!!!
She’s a good singer. Jay, you mentioned about a deep voice like her dad. There is one artist who has one of the deepest female voices I’ve heard: Ruth Pointer of the Pointer Sisters. I suggest hearing the Pointer Sisters song, “Automatic” to hear how low she can go. Speaking of the group, did you know that the Pointer Sisters have a Grammy winning Country song? They became the first all female group to win Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group. The song is called “Fairytale”. Check it out.
"I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me" and "The Way We Make a Broken Heart" are good songs too by Roseanne Cash. Also "It's Such A Small World" a duet with Rodney Crowell, her ex-husband
I cant believe you guys are reacting to this song! I love this song! Yes, a pop song.
Her husband, at the time, was Rodney Crowell, another country singer, "She's Crazy For Leavin'".
BTW, John R Cash is a record producer for country music.
The "western" guitar is the pedal steel guitar.
"After All This Time" is another great one from Rodney Crowell.
The one song that I know Johnny sings w/ Rosanne was on one of her 1st albums and it’s called “That’s How I Got To Memphis” (written by Tom T. Hall…also known by his nickname of The Storyteller)…very good song!
Wife here..WOW.., "Retro Country"..80's Country.!!..(Makes e nit feel sooo old)!!🤣.Loooove it..,I and all my galpals used to sing this all the time.., I personally really like this..Yes that Guitar is Fire..Amber the description is Perfect!!..As always U2 got it perfect!🥰
The Country Music of the 80's and 90's was called Neotraditional. It mixed the feel of the older music with the sound and production values of the times. Singers like George Strait, Alan Jackson, Patty Loveless, Reba McEntire and Rosanne Cash are part of that group.
I still have this CD. She is a very talented artist.
Her other song "I Don't know Why You Don't Want Me" is even BETTER!!!
Yasssss I love that song!
I really wish you'd used the official video for this song instead of just words. It is a live version that shows just how talented and beautiful Roseanne Cash is.
I recommend you react to one of her later songs, The Walking Wounded. Johnny Cash wrote many poems and she put music to one of her Daddy's poems to create this beautiful song after he passed. Please use the official (black and white) video. It is powerful in its message.
The duet between FRANK SINATRA and his daughter NANCY SINATRA was a big hit when it came out and is titled SOMETHIN' STUPID. Highly recommended!
This song was Roseanne Cash's one and only country crossover hit. The song became her first of her 11 #1 hits on the Billboard Country chart. This song not only went to #1 on the Billboard Country chart, but it also did peaked at the #21 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the early summer of 1981. She's a terrific singer-songwriter just like her father, the late, great Johnny Cash.
Y'all would love Tennessee Flat Top Box! A remake of her father's song!
Always loved this song.
“I Don’t Know Why You Don’t Want Me” is a great one too.
Oh, good one. I’ve always loved this song.
You have to listen to her "I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me"
Jay & Amber, Roseanne wrote this #1 song, "Blue Moon with Heartache" and co-wrote two of her other #1 Country chart hits.
Excellent suggestion
Please...I beg you. React to blue moon with heartache. You won't be disappointed.
@@utcnc7mm thank you
@@surlechapeau You know I wish they would have something like “sawdust country Wednesday” or something like that where it’s all country songs that day
@@utcnc7mm or as they used to do a two for Tuesday on the radio, how about a three for Thursday. Simce they do three songs a day, do all 3 by the same group or artist...???
I 💜 this song! I totally forgot about it!! Thanks y'all!! Amber, you're right on. A lot of people also call it the 7yr itch! Either way you're right!
I love this song - its a great story. Nowadays she's more of a singer-songwriter, but she was bringing a much more modern type of country-rock back in the early to mid 80s. Check out "Hold On", "Runaway Train" and "I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me". Also I love when she duets with Johnny. Check out "September When it Comes"
This is the first song I ever learned to sing at age 7. Still in my top 5
Always loved her. She’s so talented.
You need to listen to Reba McEntire’s duet with Linda Davis called Does He Love You’
HEY GUYS CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR SUCCESS. YOU SEEM LIKE TWO OF THE NICEST PEOPLE ON THE PLANET. AND WHEN YOU OPENED UP THOSE GIFTS AND HAD YOUR KIDS THERE I JUST THOUGHT WOW MAN WHAT A SWEET FAMILY. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS
Rosanne Cash is a great singer-songwriter in her own right. Some of her songs include - 'I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me,' 'Never Be You,' 'Tennessee Flat Top Box,' 'This is the Way We Make a Broken Heart,' 'Runaway Train,' and 'Closer Than I Appear,' among so many others!!!
"It Hasn't Happened Yet", "Pink Bedrooms" and her cover, along with Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Cplvin, of Dylan's "You Ain't Goin" Nowhere" at Madison Square Garden in 1992 for the all-star concert celebrating Bob Dylan's 30th year anniversary. Johnny Cash introduces them and gives Roseanne a kisso on the cheek and these 3 women sound so great together. With all the stars there that night, this was one of my favorite performances on a night of great performances
Check out "I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me" and "Tennessee Flat Top Box".
Roseanne Cash's music is a keen example of 1980s country music. I agree it had a more pop sound in much of the music. Roseanne remains a beautiful and very talented singer who enjoyed a number of great hits.
My favorite song by her. Someday are Diamonds is another great song
I love Rosanne. I own all of her albums. Great songs. Beautiful voice. She is so underrated. Next up please do a reaction to my favorite singer Kelly Clarkson. Try Meaning of life (Nashville sessions version) or her stunningly beautiful rendition of I will always love you from the ACM awards.
Rosanne was instrumental in helping renovate her father's boyhood home in Dyess, Arkansas. She recently received an honorary doctorate from Arkansas State University and the university maintains that house and historical displays in the town. If anyone is ever in the Memphis area just take a 45-minute drive NW to Dyess and see Johnny's boyhood home and how the Mississippi Delta influenced him and his family members like Rosanne.
She was a national treasure just like her dad. The song Tennessee Flattoo Box written by her dad was what kucked off her career and shes dressed in classy classic black like Johnny.
Roseanne is from Johnny's first marriage. Very talented singer and songwriter. This is classic 80's country music that never gets old. Others to check out is Patty Loveless, Pam Tillis, Martina McBride, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Trisha Yearwood, and for more of a bluegrass sound Allison Krause.
Love Roseanne!! How We Make A Broken Heart is my favorite. Such A Small World her and Rodney Crowell sing that and is awesome as well
Love her voice
My favorite by Roseanne Cash is “Tennessee Flat Top Box”. If you want to hear something really special, check out her ex-husband, Rodney Crowell “Many a Long and Lonesome Highway”.
Love female Friday!
Frank's daughter is Nancy Sinatra (Boots are made for walkin). Love his daughter. Super cool tuneage...great pick. had forgot all about this song. I love how you guys keep on the path to discovery and bring it all out for us. Thanx, for another one, keep it up. Lovin you and all your groovey music talk. Can;t wait for another. See ya- from your fellow rocker at the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains. Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Walk with God. Peace,
if you want to hear Rosanne singing a song that deliberately evokes Old School Johnny - that song is "Tennessee Flat Top Box"
I haven't heard this in soooo very long. She's amazing!!! How could she not be,having Johnny & Rosanne Cash as parents?? Love it!! ❤
Roseanne Cash is THIS person's name. Her mother's name was Vivian and she was not a singer. Johnny didn't have a daughter with anyone named Roseanne Cash either.
Rosanne Cash is one the best female vocalist around, independent of her father Johnny Cash. Her catalog of songs is extensive and covers not only country but many other styles. She is also great in concert and like Lorrie Morgan, a credit to her father's legacy.
It has been so long since I have heard this song, so thank you for reviewing it. Roseanne has such a beautiful voice.
This song may be the one most are familiar with and showcases her upbeat style nicely. My favorites of hers are "My Old Man," about her father, "Second to No One", and my 101st favorite song of all time, even higher than any of her dad's, "Blue Moon with Heartache." She wrote them all herself. Listen to these when you can.
Great song. So glad you guys discovered it
She’s great❤
I remember when this song came out in 1981. I was 15 and on a road trip with the family on Interstate 75 just south of Tipton, GA!
"I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me" is my fave. Great vid too.
I like her cover of the Beatles song "I don't want to spoil the party"
Wow, I didn't know she did that song. I will have to check it out.
Omg! ♥️Have y’all checked out Patty Loveless, Terri Clark, & Pam Tills
In 1981, Rodney Crowell put his career on hold to produce several of his wife Rosanne Cash's albums. Crowell is a writer/singer in his own right.
Her then-husband, singer/songwriter Rodney Crowell (see album Diamonds and Dirt), helped her in writing this and many more of her hits. Most or their hits in the 80's were written from their rocky, but loving relationship.
The way we make a broken heart is a awesome song by her
