PLEASE REMEMBER This was our first ever test of the car! It literally had only driven onto the dyno before this day. We have completely new aero/suspension that we've yet to learn/get the hang of +as you've seen from this video, we only got about 15 laps of driving, 4 of which were at any sort of speed. We'll get there, we just need time :)
Hey Jimmy, we are organizing a competitive Hillclimb event on Shelsley Walsh, next 21st of August. It will be intertwined with the Retro Rides Gathering show (where we´re sure people would love to see your MX-5 up close and there´ll be a lot of sweet machinery). If you´re interested, we´ll reserve you a Special Guest spot 😉
It's good, but it's not always enough. The driver needs to hit the clutch and keep it until standstill. Engine brake will still toast the beargings without oil pressure.
The turbo blanket bake in always gives you a good scare the first time. This is great insight into what it takes to turn a road car into a track monster. Throwing a truck load of parts at it is just the tip of the iceberg.
the issue with understeering is probably the offset nature of the rear wing pods. you probably need very little wing at the back because of that. you can generate quite a lot with a wing of that size. so basically what you are putting at the rear (wing angle) is lifting the front of its weight. the faster you go the more understeer you have. i think that a smaller front spoiler placed higher would give you enough stability at the front. just put an almost flat rear wing and you'll be able to have a better balance. with a lot of downforce, you don't have enough power to pull it without feeling draggy on the straights. as your car is pretty light and grippy on slow corners, you don't need big amount of downforce.
Yeah, you can literally see the steering wobble as the downforce from the rear lifts the front. To me that's a terrible MX-5, it seems like they managed to make a great handling car perform worse in every aspect, except for the acceleration. And it doesn't seem fast, yet.
@@TomoHawKzZ a flat floor just add more downforce to the entire platform which basically will maintain the wings unbalance. and he doesn't have enough power to pull all that. it would be too much. he just needs to release the rear and a better spoiler at the front. far less complicated.
Being from Canada and only seeing these UK tracks like brands hatch, silver stone, olton park and so on, on video games, it’s absolutely crazy watching someone like Jimmy racing there seeing his perspective. I will never get there but through jimmy I can see these historic tracks in real life. I’m so happy that you have the success you have jimmy. For you and me hahaha

So you took it for testing and a part popped out. Sounds like good testing. Get it fixed and it's a better car than before ;) Loving how minty is turning out (Though I have to admit the old cobbled together dash had some crazy cyberpunk appeal)
This reminds me a lot of Keisuke's FD in fourth stage. Like, he had a Mazda with pop-up headlights and completely transformed it, even with the wing and all

Know the feeling of things breaking man, tough luck… My wheel bearing broke at my last race this weekend at Zwartkops with 1 lap to go, ended up skidding into the gravel and barely missed the barriers.
Last ran our car two weekends ago. Another engine and transmission bit the dust, but we had a blast. The only really bad end to a track weekend is one that ends with a big crunch.
Another great video jimmy! I'm loving all the bts moments you're sharing like the mirror adjustment. Like you said in the other video, it's these moments you never really get a chance to see in the "normal" coverage
My heart dropped when I heard the pop and sounds of parts flying, then the oil. I thought for sure it ended up putting a piston out. Glad to hear no real damage done.
Nice to see car on track, and while I can't be sure of this having not driven it I'd look at that rear wing for your understeer maybe. Not sure it isn't too big or not flat enough and it's causing lift at the front. Might just be too much downforce in total for 350bhp too. Guess you'll see with more testing at full boost, but I'm betting that rear wing is some of the issue.
The part you found in the gravel trap at 16:40 is the gizmo Sebulba breaks off of Anakin's podracer in Episode I. George Lucas been real quiet ever since this dropped.
I had no idea Pirelli made Trofeo R:s in sizes like 225/50 R15 as you have on the MX5. That's pretty cool. Wonderful to see the mint MX5 in action, sad it ended halfway through.
Good Morning Jimmy, This is the video I have been waiting for. Feel like it's been so long. Shoot me a message we can talk through your understeer issues.
sorry to hear about the oil loss cutting the test and TA short, but very good to hear the engine is probably ok. When I heard the noise and saw you stop I feared the worst.
Rewatching this after the (at this time) most recent vid featuring the red cutie at Time Attack. Can't wait to see how the return of the Mint Monster goes.
Definitely need a diffuser on that car. Would drastically help the aero balance of the car, especially with that massive front splitter moving the aero balance forward. Also help with the pressure drag with all that turbulence coming off the rear wheels and rear of the car. Obviously some other considerations such as added mass and location next to the exhaust, but would definitely help out.
I am genuanly happy to see that the money from the outstanding viewership is materialising in these phenomenal projects ;) this is unbelievable and outstanding. Keep it up !!
That looked like an oil pressure sensor. The leverage and weight combined with vibrations will break those off. You need to run a flexible line from the block to the oil pressure sensor that is mounted remotely so its isolated from the vibrations otherwise it will keep happening.
I blew an oil cooler coolant line in sympathy last weekend. It certainly made the last 40 miles of my journey home more exciting with having to find the balance of going fast enough to keep good airflow over the engine but at as low revs as possible to keep it off boost and minimise heat build-up. If the car didn't already have 170K miles on the clock I'd be concerned that I'd fucked it but in the words of Ivan Drago "If he dies, he dies."
I’ve been watching since 10k subs how far you’ve come is unbelievable just keep it bro from just dreaming of the opportunity to race and be on track to being a full on racing driver
I saw Taylor Ray's 'LS Swapped Miata Build Documentary' and looks like there is almost no chance a self-made car is working on the first day. First building it, than making it reliable. That's why the second part is even longer ("LS Miata V2.0 Full Build Documentary!"). Love them, but good reasons to prefer sim-racing.
hey mate, mechanical failures happen all the time, and thats what testing is for. bounce back, it looks like you can be decently quick in that little beast. keep at it, LEARN what you can about the maintenance and repairs so you can give a hand, time attack requires that sometimes. but just keep at it, youre a quick driver and thats gonna be an awesome first time attack car for you.

i agree but this was on low boost so maybe when the tune is on high boost you would need the rear downforce so you won't spinout as quickly.
