I can tell you've been using your lockdown time to practice piano. You are really getting good! That has got to be the smallest bowl gouge I've ever seen. But it seems to work rather well to make the whiskers. I hope you have a Blessed Easter.

Nice job. I've tried whittling with two gloves and it drives me nuts. I use a Kevlar glove on the left hand and just a leather thumb guard on the right hand. It depends how one learns the craft.

I was thinking.. what squeaks .. then I remembered my dog Ivy playing with her squeaky ball during filming... it does cut like butter... my knife is uber sharp... the grain does play a part but it is very straight and even... you do still have to switch cut direction to prevent digging in... Beautiful carving there Andy. I'm going to have to have a go at this one. What is the knife you're using? I have a Drake knife that I got from the US but it cost me as much again in import & customs fees! Lovely knife but I'd rather see if I can get a good one over here. Go to the Etsy UK site ... type in .. straight chip carving knife... and it should be on the second row... Sheffield made straight chip carving tool...£7.50 inc postage... It's not in the same league as Helvee but for the money you can't go wrong... It comes with bevels on the cutting edge which I don't like so I did have to re- sharpen it without the bevels... I have a faithfull double sided 400 and 1000 grit sharpening stone which made it easy... Then polish with wet and dry paper and then final sharpen with polishing compound on a strop... I have a piece of 4x2 with a 90 degree groove down the centre... the 4x2 is about 6 inches longer than the Basswood The Basswood is placed into the groove and I run both pieces through the band saw cutting along the edge. @@AndysCornishCreations oh ok batoning wood is simply taking a straight edge and knocking it thru the wood but it would follow the grain like splitting wood..anyway I used the whole piece of wood and it came out great I just rounded off the back and put hair back there! Thanks

The Basswood is placed into the groove and I run both pieces through the band saw cutting along the edge.

@@AndysCornishCreations oh ok batoning wood is simply taking a straight edge and knocking it thru the wood but it would follow the grain like splitting wood..anyway I used the whole piece of wood and it came out great I just rounded off the back and put hair back there! Thanks
