Probably The Lord of the Rings. I haven’t read a lot of books, but there are few that I liked from Harry Potter to The Chronicles of Narnia.
Goosebumps and A Series of Unfortunate Events were the two series that I still remember vividly today. All others I've read, not so much.

Fun fact: For this movie, the animators went to an owl sanctuary to learn how to properly depict owls in flight and the ruffling of their feathers, as well as owl behavior and their dietary needs.

@@T_E_G Its DEFINITELY in the DVD menus, i had a DVD copy of this movie and i remember messing around with some of the extra content; i was too young and didnt know enough english to properly retain what it was about, but im 99% sure at least a handful of them talked about the species of the owls portrayed in the movies

Just an FYI, the Gaurdians of Ga'hoole is a long but amazing book series! It has like 12 or more books in the series and while I enjoyed the movie (saw it in theaters the day it went out to them) the books are way better! ❤
There are actual snake species that have a symbiotic relationship with owls. Though it is of course portrayed differently in the movie, they actually exist. Its worth a look up.

I believe how it goes is that the blind snake eats the pests that fester within the nest from the fecal matter and so the chicks have a higher success rate due to having a more hygienic environment. On the page I saw it says the snakes are free to leave too once the chicks are gone and they climb out of the nest due to their food no longer being produced. The owls bring them in themselves live too from what I see. So they know what they are doing.

While it's not 100% faithful to the books (that I read as a child), it does actually stand on it's own, and does a decent job compressing the first three books into it's own spin on the story.

Look, I know that the film is significantly different from the books because it's a mix, but that doesn't mean that the film is bad or that it wouldn't make a good sequel, I mean, have you seen how to train your dragon in the films compared to the ones? books? or Jurassic Park, IT (the clow), and others? They're very different and that's not why they were bad, they're not even close to being bad, so it's sad to think that there wasn't a sequel to close Klud's arc.
@@Still.the.best.2021 This. I felt like what they did was take the story, abridge/abbreviate it, then wrote a screenplay to fit the abridgement. Like what happened with How To Train Your Dragon. Adapting straight from the books, I don't think the original story would work, but creating a story based on the books can work.
In this case they compressed 3 books into a singular movie, perhaps if they were given a guarantee for more movies, they could have stepped back and made a more faithful adaption. But they did pretty decent job creating a good story, given they were likely limited for time and audience.
I feel like this movie didn’t get as much attention as it deserved. Definitely on my top shelf! Glad y’all watched💙

The Owls looks so cute and very beautiful in this movie. The VFX artists put a lot of effort into making them as real as possible. What's interesting is that this is Zack Snyder's first and only kids movie he had made.
And even ‘Kid’s movie’ is calling it a stretch

I remember being so obsessed with this movie when it came out. All I would draw were moon blinked owls and I would rent out the dvd from my local library constantly! (a time before streaming services haha) Am so glad it holds up so well and that you guys enjoyed it so much!

An embarrassing and concerning memory i had is child me literally going to bed with the dvd. It was my obsession.
Animal that attacked Soren and Kludd was a Tasmanian devil. And then later on the echidna it is one of the few mammals that can lay eggs, there are two types long beaked and short beaked. The echidna i believe is either Australian or New Zealand, which a few of the actors are from that area of the world.
The metal flecks i think is meant to represent the magnetic field, some animals do get affected by it and there are some that use it for migration. I haven’t read the books but it is possible there is a bit of magic add to it, but it may just be a movie thing.
Tyto- is the Genus name for barn owls and as barn owls are adaptive this could be why they are considered higher up species. But the tree had snowy owls as king and queen and while I love the snowy owl, I’d go with the Eurasian eagle owl that thing is huger and more intense.
Some fun actor knowledge- The snake, Mrs. P, Professor Sprout in HP, Allomere-the traitor owl Sam Neil aka Doctor Alan Grant from Jurassic Park!!! Ezylryb Captain Barbosa, Soren was taught by a pirate of the Caribbean! And we have two Lord of the Rings actors- Digger voiced by David Wenham who played Faramir, and the father of Soren and Grimble voiced by Hugo Weaving-Lord Elrond! The casting for this movie is incredible.
Now as you mentioned the idea of how to direct a movie about owls, it made me think of Spirit a movie about a horse. Granted they added eyebrows to create emotions, but how Zack Snyder had the owls express emotions was well done. Especially has owls are covered in feathers and there are so many small feathers around the faces of owls. The live action animals of Jungle Book I felt was superior compared to live action Lion King, which is interesting. Craziest part is that Aslan a lion in early 2000s has had better voice/talking, emotion display and design than some of the modern films.
In the book, there were many different animals (polar bears, puffins, dire wolves, snow leopards, etc.), but nothing from Oceania apart from Tyto owls. Flecks are just bits of magnetic metal. Setting up three bags created what they called a Devil's Triangle that no owl could escape. Making it look like a giant forcefield was movie only. The king and queen were snowy owls in the book, and the female is supposed to be larger (as it is with most birds of prey). We didn't see any Eurasian eagle-owls for a while, but they were always soldiers. Allomere wasn't in the book. The traitor was a female burrowing owl named Dewlap. She thought if she sold out then the Pure Ones would allow her to keep taking care of the tree rather than destroy it.

@@PantheonOfInsanity there were other traitors as well. They took a barn owl named Ginger prisoner, and she said she wanted to become a Guardian, but she was actually brainwashing Soren's sister Eglantine. In another book, one of their spies, a sooty owl named Kylor, joined the Pure Ones.

So, after seeing this movie, I started reading the books (yeah, I'm a 27 year old reading children's books about owls, what of it?), and here's what I'll say. Holy shit are these books dark. I'm honestly surprised at how dark they are for the age range of the books.
The first book alone which ends with Soren, Gylfie, Twilight, and Digger joining up is legitimately scary. The cult and the brainwashing are particularly unnerving. Owls weren't allowed to ask questions, so if you even started to say a word that started with "wh" they would tear their feathers out while the others laughed at them. Called "laugh therapy". They'd let bats drink the owls' blood so that their feathers would become deformed and useless for flight. They would make you forget your name and give you a number instead. The owls watching over the owlets were supposed to be referred to as Uncle and Aunty, and they were extremely sweet, but it was to get you to owe them something and they were some of the most ruthless, straight up murdering some of the other owls
Then there's Digger's backstory. I don't know where this goofy owl in the movie came from cause the original escaped being abducted only to watch one of his brothers get abducted and the other one eaten by the owls. Then he wanders around trying to find his nest again only to learn that his parents were murdered as well. Twilight's story is sad too though I wasn't as shocked by it, he escaped abduction and then grew up an orphan which made him a suprememly resourceful owl but also the kind of person who says "Life sucks, quit complaining". Kludd was also pretty much evil incarnate, he deliberately pushed both of his siblings out of the nest and then tried to eat the snake when she threatened to tell their parents.
I'm not going to act like they're the most well written books, but I really like children's books that are emotionally challenging for kids. The ones that aren't afraid to take kids to the uncomfortable places

and people said this movie is too dark while this movie is the most comedy Snyder ever did. maybe you didn't know, studios read the script and told them to changed it is norm in Hollywood. according to Snyder he planning 2 hours runtime but because of how dark the script is, they told him make it lighter and only 90 minutes runtime. so they redo the script and bringing the author to help them with the script.
the author actually involved not just when they do the original script but also when they rewrote the script. she's also there when Snyder bring all the voice actor/actress and tell them what this movie should be.
Most kids books that aren't meant for toddlers are more mature then most people think,as you can get away with dark themes/mature & brutal stuff as none of this is actually being shown, it's just words.
Warriors,cat book series goes into detail of how they different cat clans murder each other.
Shark wars,having a ruler who eats his enemy's heads.
It's not just animals though.
Magnus Chase, describes how molten asphalt hit into a character stomach & melts their insides.
Michael vey,has characters get eaten by rats & another get killed by being shot.
Even Goosebumps has legit gruesome death happen.
And remember these are books for minors so the humans the story centers around are under 17.
Usually 12-15.

Yet, in the first book, (spoilers ahead) one of the dragons from the main group just straight up snaps her father's neck in an arena. And in a kind of"side story/backstory" book, one of the villains in the main plot line uses his magic to make his father tear out his own organs.
Soooo, definitely not "just a kid's book".

I was so disappointed that this didn't get a second movie. I think with any book adaptation you can make at least 4 movie worth of story. I loved the visuals, the characters and the soundtrack so much. Definitely underrated.
it's supposed to have sequels but with this movie didn't turned profitable enough to warrant sequel, Snyder moving to DC while fans keep asking about sequels. the last time we heard news is in 2013 where there rumours that new village studios did discussed about sequel.
What I really love about the book series, is that Kathrin Lasky originally wanted to write a scientific about owls, which is why the series is extremely factual concerning Owl behavior. The flecks aren‘t really magical and are in the books as you suspected magnetic metal found in the earth which are consumed by mammals. So they can be used to create magnetic fields and are even used to confuse the orientation sense of owls in the books like you could do in real life. Things like moon-blinking are also based in nature and a lot of Latin words are used in the books (Tyto being latin for an owl class and tyto alba being the latin for barn owl). Although these books were written for children I still love them, because they have such mature discussions of culture, the protection of nature, war and racism (in this case more specisem with the pure ones). So I kind of hate that the movie ignores things like Soren’s parents being killed and Digger being the philosopher of the group and having an actual body count being reduced to comic relief for children. But I still love the overall story of the movie and of course the stunning animation!
I absolutely love this movie. And, you know what? I don't mind that there is no sequel. I like how ominous that ending was regarding Kludd.

Fr LOTG:OOG and Man of Steel are most underrated movies of Zack Snyder. The action sequences are still my favourite to this day.
This film is one of the best animated features I’ve seen from Warner Bros. Much like the Happy Feet films, the realistic animation in Legend of the Guardians is amazing! Knowing that Zack Snyder made this film was very cool. The characters, the battle sequences, and the lore was very enjoyable to me. Also, after watching this film, I started to like owls more because they creeped me out when I was younger.

This and Happy Feet were made my the same animation studio, Animal Logic! They’re also the ones who did the Lego Movies as well, they’re amazing at what they do
23:43 in the books, this device was called a Devil’s Triangle, and it’s made up of iron flecks. It primarily immobilizes creatures with gizzards and causes severe pain, like birds and lizards, which is why the Pure Ones worked with bats who were unaffected.
I watched this OVER and OVER again when I was younger. And while it's not really... on plot with the Guardians of Ga'Hoole book series, it still was the most magical and amazing thing to me.

It’s been 13 years since I watched this film and hands down not only was this Zack Snyder’s underrated film but also the most underrated animated film in the 2010’s, even my Aunt also loves Owls as they’re her favorite animal and birds in general. 10:20 . “Tytos” are a genus of owls that all resemble each other. Barn owls, grass owls, sooty owls and the like with pale facial disks like Soren.
my guess on the fleck is that since it's in the pellets, some of it is in their bodies, possibly from the mice they eat, so the fleck attacks the flecks still in them like having metal, or magnets in your body near a MRI.
Flecks are tiny pieces of magnetic iron.
@@ggrarl and sensing that small mammals eat whatever they can to survive, they must have that in their body too.
The reason is that Owls are highly sensitive to electromagnetic fields, and being in close proximity to a strong magnet can confuse a disorient them.
As an Aussie, I adore this movie, as others have said, a real shame it didn't get more attention. It didn't bomb, it's budget war $30,000,00 and it made over $100,000,000, but I guess not enough.
This movie also has a very important spot in my childhood memories, and I loved watching y’alls’ reaction. There’s three main things I’d like to comment to this review:
I love how all of the owls are identifiable to species level, *and all of them are in such realistic detail* . You could probably make a game out of trying to identify them all.
The nursemaid snake was inspired by some owls (like screech owls) bringing tiny blind-snakes into their nest to eat any parasites that may be there.
The complex worldbuilding is explained in far more depth and detail in the book series (which is a fairly different and arguably better story than this already incredible movie, and I’d highly recommend everyone read them). In the books, the pure ones were specifically any species of the genus Tyto (the barn owls) with further internal division with species like Ashy-faced owls being some of the lowest-class Tytos and common Barn Owls (Tyto alba) being the highest.

3. Grass owls
4. Sooty owls
One of the few adaptations that I thought was pretty great. The only major difference I recall is that in the book, Kludd kills both his parents when he goes to kidnap his sister. Loved the main series and the wolf spin-off series

Ahh, this was the movie that changed my life when I saw it in theatres, looking back on it.
1. It introduced me to Owl City, which remained my favorite music artist for almost a decade, and still the one I know the most songs by.
2. It cemented “To the Sky” as my favorite song almost to this day, which led me to watch an anime AMV using the song, which introduced me to anime.
3. And honestly, the rest is history.
Fun fact about About birds they navigate using the tiny little electromagnetic things in their beaks To lock in to the Earth's electromagnetic field.. I don't remember the exact name of it. But I believe that's where the idea of the flex messing up the owls came from and why the bats were unaffected.
As someone who has read all of the books from this series, I have to say, this movie is *extremely* different from its source material. It keeps a fair amount of basic elements, but changes a lot more than it keeps.
For one thing, they adapter the first three books into this single movie. Because of that, they combine a lot of things into one. For instance, the Pure Ones were not in the first book. The ones kidnapped Soren were a different organization of owls. And Kludd (who was not kidnapped, but rather, recruited by the Pure Ones behind the scenes) was meant to be the original Metal Beak.
The books are also much darker, right from the start. St. Aggies (the kidnappers) is an absolutely horrid place. There are multiple levels to their horridness - to the point that one of the overseeing owls was a cannibal. There were different kinds of moon blinking that varied in intensity, and they made an effort to make the owlets forget their own names and identity by making them repeat their names over and over, while marching, for hours a day. (Repeat a word often enough, it ceases to have meaning.)
The entire first book takes place in St. Aggies, and you really come to understand how the horrid place operates, and we get to know a lot of owls there. (One of which was Hortense, who was a tiny adult owl who pretended to be an owlet, in order to smuggle eggs out and to safety.)
Point is... VERY different story, right from the get go, and much darker in the books.
However, I still LOVE this movie for what it is. Because it's such a different movie, I treat it as a different story all together. The visuals are absolutely STUNNING, and it's a very fun movie in its own right.

Also its basically like racism within the owls. The tyto owls believe they're the pure bloods so that's why they believe they deserve to rule.
Just a little fact check: Nyra, Soren and his family are barn owls, their scientific name is Tyto alba. Thats why Nyra calls her husband high Tyto and refers to the other barn owl as Tytos
Fun fact: some owls actually do welcome snakes into their nest, i don't know the exact reason, but still cool.
The snakes eat bugs to keep the nest clean.
This movie is so beautifully made, I was sad it didn't get a sequel 😢 I watched it in 3D in theaters when it came out, those flying scenes looked so good in 3D, you can tell they really thought about utalizing it
Geoffrey Rush comes out in this film as one of the good guy owls who leader comes out in this film, he also played Barbosa from Pirates of the Caribbean.

A lot of birds swallow grit/rocks that are stored in thier gizzards to grind food bc they don't have teeth for chewing. I kinda figured the magnet was attracting the smaller magnetic rocks in their gizzards. ( I had a pet bird when this movie came out so I was on a bird fact deep dive at the time) 😅
Somehow this is the first time I've realized that this must be set in Australia. first they're attacked by a tasmanian devil when they fall out of the tree, then when they reach the sea, there's an echidna.
I LOVE this movie so much. Even as a child, I liked how they portrayed the owls, that they looked very realistic. The slow-mo scenes with Soren are beyond amazing! And I only realized how dark that movie actually gets sometimes, considering its age rating, when I watched it again as a young adult. I didn’t really notice that as a child.

As someone who actually read the books growing-up, and absolutely LOVES the Books and the Characters and the Lore and the World of Ga’Hoole… I must say I have the exact OPPOSITE thoughts and feelings, though I don’t hold any spite towards those who enjoyed this film.
But like, seriously? A “Perfect Adaption”? M. Night Shymalan’s The Last Airbender was more faithful! As far as adaptations go, I put this in the same tier as Fant4stic, and no, not because I had “unrealistic fanboy expectations”, I just think it changes and ignores and dumbs-down WAY too much of the source-material. And just like BvS, Zach Snyder and company tried to cram too much into one movie, thus wasting the potential of several books in one go. It has epic cinematography going for it, but it failed in every other category.
I could write an even bigger essay describing my reasons for disapproving of this movie, and why the book-series is totally awesome and criminally-underrated. But that would take another 30-minutes or more, and I have a full-time job to get to in just 10 minutes, so I’ll just conclude by saying that if you and your mom enjoyed this movie, then you NEED to read the original book-series, because they are exponentially better in every conceivable way, and it bums me out that it’s so criminally under-appreciated and that most people only know about it from this film.😢
I think they were doing the snake thing based on the fact that screech owls will bring a living blind snake into their nest which will often then just live in the material of the nest eating insect larvae. Essentially the owls are trying to keep their nests clean and use a snake to do it lol

I was a big fan of the Ga'hoole book series and checked out this movie as soon as I could get my hands on it. I was um... surprised by some of the adaptations in order to make it a possible story for a movie, but overall I think they did a great job. If this were a standalone I would actually like it even more, the movie is just that impressive.

I love the animation and VFX in this movie! The owls all look so cute/cool and very realistic! I loved this movie when it came out(still do)! I wish they did the other books as I feel like this one left with some cliffhangers and was obviously setting up for a second movie that never happened which I guess is because it didn't get enough attention when it was released? But as someone who never read the books, I loved this movie and wanted more! And I'm disappointed it didn't happen 😕
this movie released in late March 2010. back then, people still talking about avatar which is rerelease again for extended cut. another thing is critics saying this movie is too dark for kids while too rushed for 90 minutes movie.
all of this happened because studios mandate 90 minutes after they finished writing the script. so they redo the script again with the help of book author. it's not easy when they need to shortened scene or removed side character and subplot while the main plot need to be changed. even motivation for metal beak also need to be reduced

There are many different kinds of owls: Barn owls,Elf owl,Burrowing owl,Screech owl,Grey owl,Long horned owl,Snowy owl, Fishing owl,Barking owl,Great horned owl, Boreal owl,Pygmy owl and Eagle owl.
That's just the tip of the iceberg. The books had at least 29 different species, and there are still more owls than that.
Another great reaction. I just love this movie. People doing CGI animals gor movie these days could learn a thing or two from this. Also, the animal from the start of the movie is a Tasmanian devil, a carnivorous marsupial from Tasmania, Australia and the echidna is one out of only two known mammals to lay eggs and is found only in Australia and parts of Papua New Guinea. And yes, there is an accent because most of the cast are from Australia and New Zealand.
I think they wanted to change the books so that Kludd becomes Metal Beak in the second movie. Which would actually be a rly cool change since in the books it was rly cheesy good brother vs bad brother form the beginning and Metal Beak revealing to be Kludd wasn't very impactfull since we saw no character building from his perspective. I believe it would be avesome if this ever got the part two it deserved.
I also wish this movie got a sequel and as a little kid, this was probably one of my favorite movies ever (I found the books after the movie), but I definitely feel like the books handled both Kludd and Sorren way better.
In the movie, teenage Soren gets ripped away from his family with his brother after doing something stupid, experiences something scary, makes a friend, escapes, makes more friends and becomes a hero in a few weeks. And he gets his parents back.
Meanwhile Kludd is angst the whole time. He hates stories. Why? Idk. He stays with Nyra instead of going back home and escaping. Why? She's nice...? He gets praise? Down to murder his brother? Because he flew better than him?
In the books we got a reason for every bit of evil Kludd had. From the moment Sorren hatched, Kludd was the bad one and Sorren was great. No war stories from grandpa, only boring probrably fake legends. Soren gets praised? Kludd gets cuffed on the back of the head. This owl chick grew up resenting Sorren and his parents. And also at a young age was presented with beautiful powerful strong owl flying free with an army that offers him freedom and power and tells him that he's actually better than everyone else and it's ok to kill people, actually please do.
I don't even think we see Sorren shocked at seeing him, we see Kludd shocked that sorren lived. Everything about him and sorren was just built up so nicely in the books that highlighted Sorens kind heroism and Kudds brutish evil.

they rushed the script because original script is more darker like book and also longer runtime. i remembered Snyder said his plan is to do 2 part movie with 2 hours each but studios told him to do 90 minutes runtime after they finished the script. they also were told to lightened up the character because "this movie is for children"
good thing is Snyder bring author to involved with script making. without author, i don't think Snyder can convinced the studios to follow the book closely.
@@avacadotherainwing8457 What are you talking about? The movie did a way better job developing Kludd. Mrs. P just said there was something "un-owlish" about Kludd. Also, he was attending Pure Ones meetings even before he could fly and kicking Soren out of the tree was his initiation into the group. Soren was meant to die, it just so happened that the owls of St. Aegilous (sp?) found him first.
Kludd was just pure evil straight from the start. Whereas in the movie, he's not evil, he's exasperated and grumpy. Of course he enjoyed Nyra's praise. How do you think brainwashing works? Believe it or not, Kludd's development is done much better in the movie. I heavily disagree with your assessment.

kludd showing narcissist mentality and inferior complex. so when he saw the opportunity he can prove himself better, he grab it at the cost of his brother and sister life. this type of people is dangerous because they willing to sacrifice anybody for their personal gain.
soren is very pure hearted throughout the movie, until kludd fell into the fire. he want to stop the war by fighting against metal beak. he knew he need to take metal beak life at that point and what his teacher told him is true. war is ugly
I love this film. One of the beautifully animated films ever. Zack Snyder's best film. I've read the books, which are great, but the film with the stunning animation, the score and the voice cast, it's shame there was no sequel made continuing the story.
The movie is basically the first 4 or 5 books. If youre interested in some of the differences, I've got great examples. It takes them the whole first book to make it out of Saint Aggies and the whole second book to get to the tree. The biggest changes being kludd pushed soren out if the nest, he didnt fall and get kidnapped too. there was no metal beak before Kludd, he was always metal beak until Twilight killed him. Soren killed Nyra. Also the Pure Ones and Saint Aggies were different evil organizations. At one point the Pure Ones pushed Saint Aggies out of the canyons and the Saint Aggies owls join the gaurdians in their fight against them, much to Soren's shagrin. There are also a few small changes, but the most annoying were Digger, and Soren's reaction to Otulissa. They did to Digger what the Harry Potter movies did to Ron Weasley. Digger was a quiet, introspective, observant, intelligent character. He's the guy that never talks but when he does people listen because its usually right or interesting. He saved lives by paying attention. Like when he and Twilight tracked down and found a moon shattered (worse than moonblinked) Eglantine and about 10 other owlets the Pure Ones had left behind. Wtf happened? Got turned into pure comic relief. No value add whatsoever. And then theres Soren and Otulissa. He is a barn owl and she is a spotted owl, there is no romantic feelings between owl species. Ever! Everyone, and I mean EVERYone finds Otulissa annoying, stuck up, and a teachers pet. Shes what Hermione would be if she were too self important. She watches and fails to save her teacher in the war against kludd and nyra and basically goes obsessive in planning an invasion as revenge. During which she almost falls in love with a pacifist prince until she finds out that he doesnt believe in war and screams at him in the middle of a silent meditation flight in the Glauxian Brothers retreat. But they did a good job in the movie adaptation all things considered. Its coherent and beautifully made. I'm only really mad about Digger.

Actually, owls can get pretty big, but depending on the species of owl and their natural adult size, they can be easy pickings, especially the owlets.

i've always loved this movie, such gorgeous animation and very epic battle scenes! the armor is _super_ cool too. i also love the video game, it's incredibly fun flying around and fighting pure ones lmao
i wish this movie could've been made into a series, it seems like they were setting it up for that, but i guess it didn't do well enough, which is a shame. :( i still have yet to read the book series, but i definitely plan to. I'm sure it's just as good, probably even better (as most books are that have movie adaptions).
As a regular videogame compared to Skyrim and others it’s really simple (OF COURSE) if we compare, but it’s the best movie videogame I’ve played tbh. The animation, the action, the visuals, and everything was so cool to me. It was so fun to play

The fast pacing is due to using material from about 6 of the books.

I watched this so many times as a kid and saw it when it came out in our local theater. Its an absolutely gorgeous film with animation that dwarfs most 3D animation today. It was truly a head of its time.
this movies so aussie i loved it when it first hit cinemas. it was a tasmanian devil that attacked the two brother's at the start. The echidna is Aussie version of hedgehogs but are bigger. Digger is a burrower owl that actually do.. burrow irl xD
the aussie n animal doco enjoyer in me really looooved this i was so happy to see it in sydney imax when it first came out. defs something u wanted to catch on the big screen.
as for the voice actors, they really did have new Zealander's an aussies doing them. Geoffroy Rush, Sam Neil an Hugo Weaving. top notch~

I don't normally leave comments, but I simply must info-dump on one of my favourite fictional worlds ever! To say I was obsessed with this movie and the books as a child would be an understatement; I wanted to BE an owl in this universe XD Though the adaptation isn't faithful to the details of the story, I think it captures the spirit and setting of the books perfectly. It's based on the first 3 books of the series, The Capture, The Journey and the Rescue - so of course there's a TON of worldbuilding, characters, events etc. missing - Kathryn Lasky, the author, really takes all the time she needs to write something truly epic and inspiring.
I still think this movie looks amazing, almost like it hasn't aged a day - I adore the character designs, and how they even made owls of the same species look distinct. The voices too fit them so well, and the dialogue isn't riddled with modern slang but instead keeps to the fantasy setting while not losing its charm or humour. I truly think they were onto something special, but it's a shame lacklustre reviews and the unfair comparison to Star Wars made it flop. I can tell this was made with passion and care, by people who loved the source material. I would've loved not only a sequel, but a whole franchise! It could've been as grand as something like HTTYD, especially with the continuation of the character Nyroc and a spin-off series about the Wolves of the Beyond!
If ever you have time to spare, I recommend reading the books - they're full of owl facts as well, since Kathryn Lasky's husband makes/made nature documentaries! I believe he was kind of an expert when it came to owls, and this is what inspired her. She seems like such a sweet lady as well, and she's still writing for young and old!

All yeah this is the movie that showed why owls are badass
So as a childhood fan of the books and movies: the metal/magnetic thing is a result of the wars the owls have.
They use metal tools and leave behind metal shards which the other mice and things eat and then they eat. Along with just minerals from the ground etc. think of it like a kidney stone but for iron flakes. Basically when they form pellets part of the pellet is metal which has sifted inside the owl itself. They then harvest the purified metals and make magnets/ other stuff.
The magnets not only attract the armor they make but attract the metal flakes inside the owls.
The tytos might also eat different food from the others can’t really remember making them pure and metal free the main reason they’re hyped up is because tytos are the only species of owl to fly silently thanks to their unique feathers reducing all noise.
The bats were also vampire bats. Making them a low level menace as if you were on the ground and they got you they’d eat you. There was more plot with them/seagulls/crows in the books.
If you liked this movie and Redwall, you guys should watch Watership Down!

This series deserves a show. It's so much more involved with it's themes and lore and while the movie was gorgeous it would be amazing to see the bigger story done visually.

from what I can tell, they didn't cram ONE book into a movie, I think there were key elements and plot points from at least 12 books from the series in that movie alone, and its still not disappointing compared to the books! Makes you wonder what could've been if it got a sequel

It's crazy how before the DCEU began, Zack Snyder directed this! The animation in this film was fucking unreal. The only animated films that look better are Into the Spider Verse, Rango, and the Lego Movies.
And before Zack Snyder directed _Legend of the Guardians_ he directed the R-rated _300_ and _Watchmen_
this is hyper realistic style, this movie and Rango is. into the spiderverse is not. sadly every animation. since then is turned into Disney princess animation.
I'd add Arcane to this list, even if it isn't a movie but a series.

RIGHT this movie is so suprisingly good. I'm glad you guys enjoyed it.
I remember watching this movie in theaters (my mother read the books and had to go). Everyone in the theater verbally expressed their awe for the movies graphics - You have to remember animated movies (especially animal ones) were usually this impressive. My child eyes never left the screen. The movie itself is the definition of "epic". You see those slow-motion and close-ups of the movie where, as you demonstrated in the video, you just have to say "oooh," "ahhh", "so cool" or be silently amazed. I miss stories like these where the plot is simple, true, but it's world-building is so diverse and a genuine story of Good Vs. Evil that you have to appreciate it. I miss those heroic stories that leave you craving to be apart of it, cheering for the good guy, entirely breathless.
I read the books, played the video game, but it didn't quite hit me as much as the movie had done. Such an underrated film. It was nice to see someone's reactions to this masterpiece, so thank you! Felt like I was watching it for the first time again.

One thing I really appreciate about this movie is just how easy it is for people fall down the alt-right pipeline (or any cult really).
It all started with him just feeling unappreciated and like he wasn’t as good as his brother. It is so easy for the wrong people to come in and take advantage of that.

There are SEVERAL species of owl, with verry diferent sizes.
Owls and Crows are natural enemies. They can't be close without trying to kill each other. To the point that murders of crow go out of their way to eliminate any owl if they detect their presence nearby.
Knuckles from Sonic is an Echidna.
Antro (human) + Morph (form). Antropomorphic is whem you make something in the form of a human. That's not what they do here. The owls retain their real form. They are humanized, since they talk, have forges, books, music instruments, a society with kings and queens and so on.
I'm glad other people appreciate the faces. I remember listening to a review on the radio about how they couldn't tell what the owls were thinking.
Interesting animal facts for u on those 2 animals u didn't know about (cause they're pretty unique)-
That big black "rat" the attacked them right at the start (just before they were kidnapped) is a Tasmanian Devil. Feisty carnivorous marsupials. Sadly Tasmanian devil is endangered largely due to struggling for decades with the devil facial tumour disease- which is pretty much exactly how it sounds. A deadly disease spread through biting that causes large tumours to grow, most notably around the face.
And the echidna (the shaman with the blue face that "foretold" things) is one of only 2 monotremes left, which are basically mammals that lay eggs. Platypus is the other monotreme (although there are also multiple species of echidna). Echidnas are a little like a cross between an armadillo and a porcupine. They have a long snout and sticky tongue to eat ants and other insects. Echidnas are also found almost exclusively in Australia- pretty common here.
