I am so pleasantly surprice to see that this video still did get 638 thumbs up and only 159 down.
I know, most hard core HL(2) players did hate my latest mod. But that is ok, i knew up front that there would
be people like that. After severel months of release i still am glad that the comments are overall very good and
that it did get a 7 out of 10 on Moddb and a 3,58 out of 5 on RTSL, so, that is rather good!!!

If you wouldn't have put it in the Half-life universe I would have LOVE it, this mod was great if you forgot that it's in the Half-life branch
It should have been a standalone or something like that. Not "Half-life 2 Episode Three"
Thanks for your input on this matter A Real Snake. Many people thought like you do and although i do understand what there saying i still think that Ep3 is a justifiable title because after all, it does start were the original ep2 left of, with the death of Eli. And it does lead you to the Borealis, as we all expected a ep3 would do. That it is not consistent all the way with the overall HL lore is something that can be expected from a fan made mod. It really keeps surpricing me that people were disapointed that they didn't get a Valve Ep3 to play. Because this is a one man made mod for the most part and at Valve hundreds of people are working on games. I am glad you think it is a great mod, even when these issues disapointed you. Sorry for that,

Your question does suprice me quit a bit, why do singers release there songs, why are films released, why are games released, and why are mods released. To give pleasure to those who would like to play it, its for free so people can play it or not. I love to make mods and i love to hear what people think of them, and till now about 70% of the people really do like this latest mod of mine. That is why i release,

I can't believe people are getting so pissy about this mod. I mean it's not perfect but it's above average in my perspective. And the mod creator probably put a lot of effort and love into the mod as well. More then I can say for anybody in this comment section aside from the creator of this mod himself.
If it wasn't about Half Life it would've been a decent game. But since the name of the game is associated with it, the fans aren't happen about the third person cutscenes

I am not saying that others peoples opinions are invalid. Its just that people are saying that this mod is the worst mod ever. Its not. And the mod is not really that bad. I mean sure a lot of the content is sub-par. But its not like its actively insulting the player on every turn. I guess it may just be me and my tastes.

I like how people paid for hunt down the Freeman but gave the Developer of this Mod hate. Piss Off.

I remember watching a play through of this when it first came out: I was sick in bed, dozing on and off, and the whole thing came across like a surreal Half-Life fever dream. Endless corridors, relentless combat, everything familiar but also different.

Poor Leon makes this mod for several years and people do nothing but bitch about how different it is to their expectations. This mod and its cutscenes and strange features are all just Leon's style, as someone who has played all his previous Half Life mods. I suppose people are just upset at being tricked/triggered by the "Episode 3," but Leon really doesn't deserve this amount of hate. Despite the massive amounts of effort, he still pulled through and made something huge and fun to play. I almost get a sense of entitlement from some of the comments in here. Really shameful.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I think the hate is more than justified since Leon was bold enough to use 'Episode 3' in the title.
And it wasn't fun to play.

Back in 2007 we didn't have this attitude in the hl2 modding community. Mods were taken as mods instead of full games. People made them for fun and people played them for the heck of it. Expectations were low, and that's precisely why we got so many mods and a few great ones like Minerva: Metastasis.
If you don't like this mod, don't play it and maybe even make your own. Valve has a free dev kit and there are many tutorials out there. Once you've tried making your own, you'll learn to appreciate how much time, effort and knowledge it takes to make even the crappiest of mods. This mod in particular must of taken thousands of hours to create. The fact that a group of people got together to make episode 3 and managed to finish is something we should applaud even if the result is mediocre. That's how we attract new people to mod for the community and with time get better mods. Also, great modders start out as noobs.

Some mods are for fun. This mod is clearly made to fit the lore. And it fails in doing so. It ruined everything from gameplay to atmosphere and story. They were meant to get on a helicopter and fly to borealis. But Gordon said (!) "Fuck that", and they went underground for some reason. Gameplay in HL2 was also quite boring, but different. It had something to impress us with. This mod doesn't try to do the same. It tries to do completely different thing and name it "Episode 3". Also, everyone is adequate here. I'm not going to say that the mod is good and fun because i value the work of the modder. I say the mod is fun when i have fun playing it. I played HL2: Beta mod. Even though it looks incomplete, it's far way better and far way more fun that this pile of crap. This mod neither looks fun or as Bolloxed said it's not even fun to play it. I don't understand what you (agun17) are defending here.
Edit: I make content myself. I make music, i translated Lambda Wars and UberUpgrades for TF2 into Russian. It takes months for something as simple as this. Games are 10 to 15 times longer to make. I'm a critic. I know HL2 lore and how games are developed. HL2 Beta also had a big team of modders. They made something great there. This looks like they all did completely different stuff, and then compiled it into something that they thought it would be great to name "Half-life 2: Episode 3". Boring piece of garbage, which has years of work put into it.

The gamers who do that are my favorite.
This mod has so much soul put into it you can feel it. I love binging Bulloxed videos so when I saw this 5 hour long ad for a modder’s take on epistle 3, I was giggling. This mod is so amazing, I played it myself. I love how they foreshadow Antlions with the grubs, it really hit me like a Vance game. Only notes I really have is that the cutscenes are a little jarring compared to the 24/7 first person half life 2 games and there’s a lot of ammo, maybe too much. But overall loved the mod would recommend!
Pretty sure the mod was before Epistle 3.
Despite the unofficial storyline, for some one or team to commit a large amount of time to create this much contents is totally worth thumb up for! Good job and five stars!

To be honest, this is really good, the animations especially the reload animations and the gameplay are great. The only flaws in here are the 3rd person cutscenes and the voicelines.
Seeing this for the first time, watching it like a movie lol. I know nothing about modding etc. but it's obvious you put a lot of work into this. I think it's great :)

They had all the ideas from scratch. It was easy to re-create cause the plot and everything was there. And do i have to remind you that black mesa was in development for YEARS AND YEARS LONG. And the developers was dead silent for the longest time ever.

I completely loved this mod, it is one hell of a conclusion to my favorite video game saga, the only thing I don't like that much is the voice acting, but except for that, this is awesome.

@@atub7055 its not about pressure really, its innovation. Valve only make a Half Life when there is something to innovate on, with 1 it was creating a narrative driven immersive FPS, with 2 it was the physics engine, with Alyx it was VR, HL3 will come when there is a new leap to be made.

Honestly as a fictional imagining of what half life 2 episode 3 or half life 3 would look like: just not feeling it. At all.
However as it's own entity it actually looks pretty darn good I must say.

I love that ending where "innocent" rebels perform genocide on a former combine forces (I mean those soldiers ripped from FEAR). Very humanitarian and well thought out. Alyx would be proud!

Just played this again and it just keeps going. Took me a few days of on and off playing. I'm a stop and smell the roses type of player. I like to hang out and appreciate the work that went into making of the mod. Like the graphics, I liked that there are plants in a grow room. Wish I could print out those comics seen in a few of the levels.
Yes this mod doesn't have the same polish as you would expect of an Episode 3 from Valve back then.
But oh man, it is still fantastic, I am in the beginning and I already fell in love with the Bizon...

mapping with several different side scroller games and am just about to release a huge mod called Ion Jungle

Honestly this isn't a bad mod. It is put together very nicely and I like the guns added in as well. But who ever made it didn't follow how half life actually is. There is no 3rd person the whole story should follow from gordons eyes. Also they shouldnt have called this Episode 3
And also the plot from Marc Laidlaw,more or less.
Nice mod and playthrough man. I like the Bioshock wrench and F.E.A.R. Replica skin types for the Combine soldiers. The System Shock 2 theme near the end was neat too.
Things I am absolutely loving as I play.
1. levels that have multiple options as to where to go so I can will have to replay them to see where that leads.
2. Surprises, jump scares.
3. The crazy way this game switches between layouts (cave to hallway to factory so seamlessly)
4. That sense of wonder like when you first played HL as to "What's going to happen next?"
Although it's not my favorite mod, I still give a big thumbs up and a congrats for being able to create something like this. Good job!

These cutscenes go against half life's unbroken first person narrative phylosophy
Right off the bat Im impressed. Keeping in mind this is fan made and yeah- Kinda corny, but the level design is really interesting, a bit weird but well-done imo. Creative for sure
It's so, so sad seing this mod got so much hate, just because people expected it (though it may have been advertisted as such) to be the next Half Life. Come on guys, there's been sooo much work put into this. That guy had to put tons and tons of free-time into making such a masterpiece of a mod (one of the best of half life mods, if not the best) and then you just shoot him down, only because you had even highier expectations. For me, it was at least 10 hours of pure joy!

Puzzle to hard? Here's a way that solves it for you~ Crowbar to mainstream? Have a wrench. Game lacking LENS FLARE, well, dont you worry buddy. Tired of all that GAMEPLAY obscuring your awkward 3RD person cutscenes? Not a problem pal. I admire the effort Leon put into this, but it's far and away from any closure, he tried and his dedication is honestly commendable however, but some things are better left unscrewed with.

I appreciate these people's effort to create something Valve could not create for 16 years now, some maps were very fun and beautiful. However, due to the lack of a nice storyline and being unable to find a grenade weapon in one of the maps, I give it a 4 out of 5. It is a lot of fun.
aside from the cutscenes, the gameplay seems very close to what valve made. bravo!

This is probably the closest we will ever get to a half-life 3. so I'll take what I can get.
This is version one. It could be improved. We could crowdfund voiceactors and maybe even writers with subsequent versions. There is no limit, except maybe naming it Half Life. We could circumvent that by naming it Ricochet 2. Volvo should be ok with that.

It is now Aug 2024. Learning so much about Half-Life 2 and what has been created over the years. I just purchased Half-Life 2 and now playing it in VR. I am also now surprised there is an Episode 3. I will setup this Episode after I get into Episode 2 in the near future.

I think people we're expecting an actual half life episode 3 here. It's just a big glued together mod that's fun for blasting through.

Like all mods it seems imperfect at times, but thats not the point. It is someone else's vision, not ours. It was challenging, I loved playing it, and it is 100% free.
Those who make HL mods and release them FOC deserve huge credit. Its not like the criticisers have the talent or passion to do the same, so well done.

I dont think Valve is trying to make the game match everyone's expectations thats an impossible task but Beta elements have been leaked over time so l believe it exists and will be released one day. I think it could be made in source 2 since half life alyx is

I know this is "fan" made... but if you were a fan of Half-Life you would know that one of the things that makes HL special is that is in first person and you NEVER get to see the face of Gordon Freeman at all... Even in the 2 xpacs of the first HL, when you play as Barney or Sheppard, you only get to see Freeman from behind or far away, you never get to see his face realy.

You do get to see his face quite clearly in Blue Shift.
Near to or at the end, you see the marines carrying him after he was captured around half way through the game, before he's put in the trash compactor
Ok i guess you guys aren't exactly fans of Half-Life. Let me explain. When you play as Gordon in HL you never see a cinematic of him, you never see his face directly. Blue Shit and Opposing Force, were NOT developed by Valve. Google it out... however in those games, you get to see Gordon 3 times. Blue Shift, as you are waiting for the door to open, the train with Gordon passes by, this is perhapes the only time you get to see it front to front, but briefly and not near. Then later on when you try a teleporter you end up in a basement. From a little windwo you get to see how 2 soldiers are dragging an unconcious Gordon Freeman, you see his body, but not his head that well. In OF you get to see from far away how Gordon jumps into a portal and disapears as the room is exploding, this happens when you are far away, and you don't even get to see his face as you are behind him.
One of the things that makes HL special, is the fact that there are no cinematics, everything happens from your very point of view. And for some reazon, even when playing as Sheppard or Barney, you realy never get to interact that close with Freeman.
HL 2 surivior is an arcade game, partialy developed by Taito. Is more of an spin off. It does not realy fits into the main univers of HL.

The problem that I assume people have is that the mod is named "Half Life 2: Episode 3", but people REALLY expect a faithful ep3 on-par with the previous iterations of Half Life. I don't understand it either, tbh the mod looks great and the fact that somebody took the time out of their day to make it should not go unnoticed and unappreciated.

These Combine soldiers remind me a lot of the Replica troopers from the F.E.A.R. series.
They made a good attempt at this but it's not how is should have gone down from the beggining. and Alyx vance wouldn't sit and mourn about her dad and i agree with all the unnecessary stuff in the game
And game creators if you see this the game is a buggy mess no offense i dont know how long it took to make this game if it took like months to make i get it years however could've done more work
