I used a Hydra in a casual game against some necrons recently and first turn it took out a lokhust heavy destroyer and 2nd turn put the final 6 damage onto a doomsday ark… I was so impressed with the output from this lovely little tank
72" range gives you enormous overwatch range and could put in some work against flyers coming in from reserves. As for stuff with fly, all eldar, dark eldar, necron and tau vehicles all have fly. Jetbikes in general, ork deffkoptas, all jump infantry and battlesuits with their drones. Very few armies dont have access to things with the fly keyword
@@hammer1349 True, im just hoping that this video doesnt make them too prominent for opponents so they dont target them with hammerheads and fire prisms now lol
Well damn, im about to take my scratch armored company of 1 Chimera, 1 Hydra, 1 Rogal Dorn, 1 Leman Russ, and 1 Scout Sentinel along with a few supporting characters and mortars to fight my friends necrons, this came out just at the right time
I have had 3 x Hydras in my army since the 1st Imperial armour book came out, and forge world made the conversion kits for them I think it was during 3rd edition
I've been saying this is a sleeper unit since I got the cards. I plan on using them as mobile gun trucks; gunning down anything with the fly keyword and space marine equivalents.
Giving hydras and basilisks the flamer can be funny when your opponent try’s to deep strike you and doesn’t expect everyone to be ready for close combat and just burn them
Guard are probably the only faction who would regularly not have a unit with Fly. Have to say though, that a big attraction for me right now is that the Hydra looks a bit like a Gepard...
Hands down the best anti-flyer we have, and for 95pts not over costed. You just need ask yourself, how many flyers am i going to up against if i am running an 'all comers list'? vs Aeldari, its Nightspinners, Wave Serpents, Fire Prisms, Skyrunners (your going to see those). vs CSM its Raptors, Talons, Helldrakes (your not going to see many of those) .vs Daemons, its Flamers (your going to see those) vs Deathguard, its Bloat Drones (maybe see those) vs Drukhari, all their vehicles (your going to see those) vs Grey Knights, Inceptors (maybe see those) vs Necrons, its C'Tans, Scarab Swarms, Tomb-blades, Wraiths, Barges, Arks, Destroyers, Monoliths (your going to see many of those) vs Orks its Stormboys and Deffcopters (your going to see those) vs Space Marines, its Suppressors, Inceptors, Speeders and Jump Packs (maybe see those) vs Tau, nearly everything!
The thing with guard weapons is you got to remember they can be very easily buffed with an additional 2AP and ignores cover. Creed with a mortar infantry squad, a hellhound and an exterminator is only 445pts and should be in the core of every list.
Hydra is so undercosted and I love it. Mine have killed a mortarion before. That anti-fly is not to be underestimated. I use 3 of these as brood brothers and my GSC are all the better for it.
Comparing it armoured sentinels makes it sound amazing: for just 25 more points you're getting more than twice the firepower (twin-linked being better than the tank hunters ability) on a harder to kill model... The downside being off course the sentinel can get orders from command squads...
I my last game, my oponenet waas a tyranid player with the big nid dragon. After I knocked half the dragon's health off in a single Hydra turn, my opponent quickly learned to respect it.
If your opponent has many fly models in their army like daemons. They will prioritize a front to kill a hydra over that of a Dorn or rus. Give it a scout sentinel and it performs well.
For very similar reasons I wanted to get a Stalker, since it actually looked decent this edition. But as soon as I thought that, it went out of production. Thanks GDubs
I just feel like a Armiger Helverin does a Hydra's job but better. More M/T/WD/OC, more autocannon shots at a better BS, an invun save, still some anti-fly capability. Yes it's more points but I'd much rather 2 Helverins than 3 Hydras.
Autocannons in general are amazing in 10th. Combine the hydra with a couple of exterminators focusing fire means you can level custodes squads a LOT faster than they expect. Regarding the Exterminator vs the Hydra though, the Exterminator has 2 barrels on its autocannon and gets 4 shots with rapid fire 4. The Hydra gets 4 barrels and 4 shots no rapid fire. Bit sad but I suppose it makes sense given the range and abilities. Also - ALL hover tanks have Fly, EXCEPT the space marine primaris tanks, neither the Impulsor, Repulsor or Gladiator have it...
They have regiment infantry and artilley key words. Standing still for +1 and lethal hits but also powerful volley so if they take an order and move they still get lethal hits and with a scout sentinel still hitting on 3+. So you get lethal hits 6 shots from lascannons re rolling wound rolls. For 90 points is insane imo
@@Iratepaddy no, powerful volley requires them to receive an order AND remain stationary for lethal hits, which is currently completely useless bc Combined Regiment already gives you lethal hit when stationary. Maybe when another detachment comes out it will be useful.
I bought a Hydra because of this video. It's just too cool not to have one. Even if it gets nerfed at some point, it's an awesome model to have. Can't wait to field mine!
Mordian Glory. Can You make a video abaut Agents of imperium units? Something like Imperial navy breachers or exaction Sqad etc. We can also include these ones in our armies :)
Honestly I don’t see it, Apart from spamming in high numbers, 4 shots hitting on 4s, so 2 hits. 3 hits against flyers And… against flyiers ok 3 wounds. But with Ap -1, They’l make the armour save 1.5 times, so 4.5 wounds/turn on average, assuming they don’t command reroll And against non flyers vehicles, 2 hits doesn’t even statistically guarantee a wound, So your looking at a wound average between 1-2 Is that really good? What am I missing/wrong with my thinking?
I agree. The Exterminator is a higher value.72" range is useless in the crammed tabletops battles of 10 ed. I'd rather just field 2 Weapons squads for 60 points each. At least the Regimental orders are easier to give
You're re-rolling hits AND wounds against flyers. You can easily be hitting on less than 4s and with scout sentinel you can reroll 1s again if you fail reroll from Hydra's Flak Battery. You can also reroll hits with the bolter/Hunter killer. It punches far above its point cost against fly
Yea punches above its pts against flyiers. But it still can’t bring a flier down in less than 3 turns without some exceptional luck, Games over by then, And of course if your opponent doesn’t bring fliers, it’s dead weight. And flyiers arnt great this edition so not alot around
New to 40k, just started building a guard army. With the Hydra autocannon, is it 4 attacks total, or is it 8 attacks? (2 attacks per cannon like all other autocannons)
I've been doing this, plus 6x taurox with auto cannons, scout sents with auto cannons. It's a whole lot of twin linked auto cannons. Tabled a 30+ infantry custodes list even spamming -1 damage.
Well...actually there *are* quite a few lists without fly. True, a lot of units have it for sure, but the "nearly all competitive lists" is a big stretch. GSC, Custodes (grav tank honorable exception, but meta atm is broken enough for it not to be considered auto-incldue...) and Knights for example, as far as I know, do not really use fly units at the moment. To just go from some of the strong factions. Sure, eldar does, that is very true. And Chaos Demons as well, plus Magnus from TSons. Lots of good targets. Just y'know, overstatement in the video.
I think you’re underestimating the impact of killing Fly if anything. Yea the rule has been nerfed vs 9th but those are still often the fast units of each army. Killing them is disproportionately good at disrupting your opponents’ game plan; forcing them into a 1D slog into your guns and screening; keeping them from objectives. As someone once said: games are won and lost in the movement phase and this is as anti-movement as a basilisk.
2 Scout Sentinels is 100 pts... There's your autocannons. Rerolling 1s and buffing indirect fire. I really dont see Hydras being game-changing meta with other options out there.
The plastic hydra turret looks so bad compaired to the original forgeworld version. I bought 6 of the forgeworld version when i first saw the plastic update. I refused to buy the plastic kit.
Flak battery doesn't specify the autocannon so reroll hunter killer and heavy bolter against fly too!
Also if a unit in close combat with it has fly the hydra will re-roll hits in close combat.
Daemon Primarchs: NOTHING CAN STOP OUR RAMPAGE!!
Some cannons duct-taped to a Chimera: haha anti-fly goes bang-bang

overwatch as a concept yes.
overwatch as a stratagem is limited to 24" though
@thesherbet 24" is still a very big bubble and when you take 3 of them, it's gonna be impossible to not get shot by atleast one of them
@@hammer1349 True, im just hoping that this video doesnt make them too prominent for opponents so they dont target them with hammerheads and fire prisms now lol
@thesherbet less shooting at the russes etc so I suppose not that bad but I do see the issue
@@hammer1349 to be honest i would much rather people shoot the russes, they have higher toughness and armour so can absorb more of that firepower
it's so rad GW finally realized strapping 4 autocannons to a Chimera is kind of a winning formula with 0 BS.
