  • In this video I have a better performance with the Skyflame Charcoal Chamber & Heat Deflector. In my other video using this weber accessory, I had trouble keeping the temperature of the weber down to around 250f. In this video temps of the weber kettle went as low as 239f to high as 261f. But it stayed consistent at 244f. See how better this weber accessory performs. 12-18-22

    Looks good. Thanks for showing us your method.

    Anytime you can keep a Weber kettle grill to within a ten degree temperature swing on a long cook/smoke, you're doing good. Seems like a winning accessory.

      It has dialed in after many cooks and it is doing what I want it to do. It allows me to use all the cooking grate space, and I can do low and slow. I have not yet had to add charcoal during my cooks.

    Thanks for your video. I think you’re the only one onYT that’s done this. I got this same device because Inwanted to improve my smoking skills. One local grocery store had BOGO on baby back ribs. Tried one rack yesterday. What a f--in disaster. Everything got WAY too hot-ruined the ribs-not much was salvageable.
    Anyway, part of the issue was that I used 2 lighter cubs instead of 1😖. On top of that, I didn’t do a good job managing the vents. Like you said, this baby gets hot in a hurry. The wind may have been part of the problem.
    Anyway, I’m gonna try again and see if it works better. I want to sharpen my skills ‘ cause I want to do a rack of pork roast and maybe work my way up to a beef rib roast that’s waiting in the freezer.

      Thank you for watching! It takes time to adjust to it. I learned that right away. But once you adjust the vents, it will dial to the temp you want. Using 1 starter will help. Let me know how it goes for you.

    Having used the snake method for a few years now, there've been times when it's been a bit too chilly outside, and my 22" Weber didn't want to get much above the 225 degree mark. But in those instances I really don't mind because I always set it up for a longer cook than I'll need, (I ring almost the entire circumference) and save the unburnt charcoals for the next one.
    Like you, I usually prefer low and slow temps of around 250, and have always been pleased with meat cooked at that temperature, even when I do a slow braise in the oven.

      What you wrote is why the snake method works. I saw this accessory and felt it would allow me to use all of the cooking grate. It promotes that it will also do low and slow. After using it as many times as I have, it can go long hours when Temps are set for slow. So far, it is doing what I want it to do. I can cook any meat and not have to add more charcoal through the cook.

    Also, since you can use the whole grate, I did a spatchcock turkey (15ish pounds) with no issue

      For sure I will do the same. Opens a lot for me to do.

    I would place a gasket around the bottom of the lid. I get 225 on every cook. The Webers leak a lot from the bas and the lid.

      Thank you for watching. I had thought about doing that when I first got it, but I decided I'm okay with not doing it. I understand why it's done, but I want to leave this kettle the way it is. I am working on another kettle that I am adding mods to.

    I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but my temps seems to always go really high even with vents closed.

      How is your set up with your charcoal? How do you light your charcoal?

    I have the Skyflame and love it. It does require some trial and error and it is susceptible to the ambient temperature.
    It works a lot like a kamado in that if you overshoot, it will take quite a bit of time to settle down.

      Agree. Exactly what I have been coming across. It has been fun cooking with it.

      No drip pan. It is an easy clean-up. All I've needed to clean is the heat deflector.

    Looks like your promoting the ink bird instead of the sky flame...🤦🤷😂 Might want to change the video tittle....

    • @MoesBlackGoldBBQ
      @MoesBlackGoldBBQ  Год назад

      Thank you for watching. That's me showing the audience what the Temps are while using the Skyflame. Using the inkbird allows me to do that. I want to make sure I correctly present the Skyflame. But I have no issue promoting the inkbird. I love that inkbird.

      @@MoesBlackGoldBBQ then just add inkbird to the tittle...

    • @MoesBlackGoldBBQ
      @MoesBlackGoldBBQ  Год назад

      It's not about the inkbird. But I understand where you're going with this. Just like temp guages on smokers and other pits, I use the inkbird as my weber didn't come with a temp Guage. Inkbird is only helping identify the temp of the weber. The Skyflame is what the video is about. Not the inkbird. All it's doing is identifying the temp. As I want to get accurate Temps while using the Skyflame. But i understand your concern. Inkbird not in the title because it's not about the inkbird.
