This makes sense as APU allows for extremely fast connection between the cpu and gpu on one die. In theory, this will eventually outpace the performance of high end gpus as much of the communication wait time will be extremely reduced in a smaller package and lower power draw. The future is bright.

So you don't need as much preprocessed data on the GPU ram sitting idle and able to do more realtime data from system ram. The biggest problem between GPU and CPU has always been the wait time to transfer data back and forth.
@ambocc this is why camm2 is faster to make up for any loss from. Potentially losing that however newer motherboards can take away that bottle neck all together allowing full link speed access to the memory from the cpu gpu and npu. They dont have to be on the same due, just interconnected correctly. Like soldered ssds VS pcie ssds. Depending on implementation either can be faster and have lower latency although it should be easier with soldered close to the soc ssds.

There's also much larger 3D v cache coming and it will speed things up exponentially. This is just the beginning and I think it will be the future path for AMD. The fact that naming is getting worse means it is deliberate. It's possible that confusing names results in higher sales. Just like supermarkets make their shelving organization confusing to encourage shoppers to buy more.

In the future my next graphics card will be an APU...I plan to downsize my PC setup....high performance APU in a MINI PC hoping one will come out that's on par with my current GPU the RX 6800.
People complaining about amd not competing with nvidia are insane. They competed and gave 80% of the performance for half the price. BUT NO ONE BOUGHT THEM. No company is going to compete just for the sake of keeping another company in check. If you wanted amd to compete you should have bought them and gave them the r&d funds instead of nvidia. Now the plan is probably to let nvidia get gpus to the point that they are so expensive they are not rely purchasable by the masses. (ces just showed this in action). Once everyone is used to paying 3k for a gpu they will drop back in with a nice reasonable offering, with a humble attitude and say hey....we have 80% the performance for half the price, give us a try. AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and the similar variants all look gangbusters! I would take a laptop with one of these over a discrete packaged laptop, any day of the week. My Intel 13900HX CPU can pull 190w alone. (4080m pulls 175w) So, swapping to one of these is likely in my future.
This is the one that has me the most excited. It will be a well rounded, monster. It sucks that it wont have FSR4 though. I may hold off for the 2026 3nm variant for that reason alone.
