I'd also suggest in the next video using some of the higher end Pan Leica lenses to do this test. Because although Olympus lenses are excellent, typically Panasonic lenses are going to do a better job communicating info to Panasonic bodies. So the fact you used Olympus lenses could have had an impact on your results.
There's a recent update from Panasonic (2019/11/19). Apparently they've improved their AF performance with this update. Have you tried comparing it again? Or have you noticed any AF improvements since then for GH5?
great review my man! I just discovered your channel and it's quality. Question for you: I currently shoot on the GX80 & G6 (ancient technology), and I'm looking to upgrade. I mostly shoot run and gun videos - a lot of handheld stuff. Would you suggest the GH5 or the G9 ? ... or should I just wait till the GH6 comes out.
Agreed. It's pretty obvious too! I'm planning on doing a comparison between the two soon! But I like them both a lot, but the 25 has some serious advantages
I’m honestly confused here. Don’t get me wrong but the af is bad in both of these. Being a high end camera I expected much more faster af from GH5. G85 is no way better. They’re hopelessly slow. Or is it something I’m missing about these cameras? What’s more saddening is that how well lit the situation is. The lightning is generous. I thought no camera can get the af to be as bad as my EOS 250d(SL3). EOS 250d literally uses primitive CDAF in 4K and these guys use Hybrid AF.
Setting a higher Aperture say 2.8 plus will improve auto focus reliability - notice that Sony’s latest RX cameras are all f2,8 to improve AF
Yes it will! Interesting

Yeah those would definitely have a much better shot of showing what they're capable of for sure 👌🏼
@@NolanGunn my sigmas do well but my pan. 12-35..f2.8 does the best. My Olympus 7-14mm pro lens is the coolest tho
Please, a High iso low light comparison test betwen g80 and gh5
What Color profile are you using for both? It looked matched perfectly!
Natural on both!

I haven't tested it yet! But I probably will come spring!
What about for photo, particularly C-AF tracking for sports and wlidlife? Also, how much of a difference does it make to use Panasonic glass for DFD?
That I haven't done rigorous testing with. AF has been very good for me for photos, but I haven't done anything telephoto in the wildlife arena.

I would go with the GH5 if you want to stick with micro four thirds for sure! Amazing for video 👍🏼
Great comparison
Thanks!
If you look at Panasonic's Pro User program, the G85 is actually considered a professional camera body.
Interesting! I didn't know that. That's pretty cool 👍🏼
I Guess the tracking on g80 was better than the gh5:)
In some situations!
The G85 has slow autofocus at 4k or 60fps. Reduce to 1080p @ 30fps and things get faster and more reliable.
Agreed 👍🏼
@@NolanGunn how's the autofocus when you are shooting 1080p @ 60fps?
Super test😃👍
Thanks!
Great video test
Thanks!
GH5 nice skintone
I don't know how to get that skintone in my g85
Make sure you're not over or underexposing. Also, be sure to set your white balance correctly. For this video we used Daylight for everything.
Gh5 has better dynamic range or are the settings of?
The GH5 seems to have slightly better dynamic range
Looks like it's about 2/3 of a stop in the highlights
How do you feel about the sigma 30 f1.4 vs the olympus 25 f1.2?
It looks that the gh5 had more dinamic range than the g85, in special on the highlights

where is a link to your step down rings for the ND filters?
www.amazon.com/dp/B016I7RW9A/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_O9kIDbTFAJD9S
The G85 16MP sensor would do better in low light.
Do 1080p please
You do know that autofocus works better with Panasonic lens
Yes!
@@NolanGunn are you going to do a test with a Panasonic lens?
@@kbasemuzik not sure! I don't own one, so probably not
@@NolanGunn renting lenses is insanely cheap. You can rent most panasonic lenses for a week for less than $100 from someplace like lensrentals.com

Yep, it’s not good at all.
What. . . The gh5 and g85 both uses CDAf with the fast rack thingy ( DFD ) , CDAf alone does that ( just a bit slower
Test s objektivy Olympus neni korektní, protože tyto objektivy neplno nevyužijí vyladěné ostření na tělech Panasonic.
Is quality better in g85?
The GH5 quality? Yes!
