Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 5 octaves (Eb2 to F5) She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. She's just over 3 octaves, and has been recorded as low as C3 and as high as F6. A soprano that can hit lower ends of a tenor's range is more than impressive enough without exaggerating her range, Timo.
@@TimoArula Mystress is correct. Even Eb2 to F5 is not more than a bit over 3 octaves. But of course, this fact doesn't take anything away from her specialness. There are great singers with much smaller vocal ranges.
A lot has happened since this show. Jukka (drums) had to step back due to health issues and was replaced by Kai Hahto from Wintersun. Last year Marko (bass) left due to his struggle with healt and was replaced by Jukka Koskinen, also from Wintersun. Floor was diagnozed with breast cancer a few weeks back and is now recovering after a successful surgery.
Saw them in Massachusetts in May also ! Flew half way across the US, best show I've ever seen. Even without Marko but he is missed . His health and happiness is most important now maybe someday he will makes some appearances. Keep rocking! 🥁🎹🎸🎤🎶💜
Due to the departure of Marco, there are songs that are no longer sung, but there are songs where Floor takes care of Marco's part. This is impressive. Man, Floor's voice knocked me on my ass the first time I heard her to now. Her vocals just seem to have no ceiling or bottom, and so clean. Her diction is phenomenal and pitch is perfect. I am a guy who appreciates many genres of music, though typically mostly drawn to Metal, Hard Rock, and Classic Rock. Floor is 41 now, soon 42, and her voice and technique just seems to be getting better and better. She can sing anything, I am convinced. Liked and subbed for more of you checking out Floor since Revamp.

Floor is the perfect fit for Nightwish as she can sing everything written for both the previous singers, Tarja (operatic) and Anette (poppy) so that they can now perform anything from their back catalogue. There were 15 songs at this Wacken 2013 concert all written for the other singers and she nails them all with ease having been with the band only ten months. By the way, the top note in the glissando at the end was D6 !!
I also stopped listening to Nightwish when Tarja left. Years after Floor joined, I rediscovered this band that I love again. Her performance and voice are wonderful.

I also took a little break from Nightwish for a couple years and eventually started catching back up a few years ago. This entire show is incredible and every performance is worth watching! This song was originally sung by Tarja (Once album) but it was not often played live (at least not while being filmed), so Floor's version was super satisfying when I saw it. But if you want to hear some stuff from the Floor era albums, I recommend Shudder Before the Beautiful live at Wembley!! Show opener, I believe. That or Weak Fantasy live at Tampere!

If there's anything in it that was 'lacking' was that with Floor's vocals, so few pay attention to how well Marko and his own tremendous vocal talent jives so incredibly well with hers. x'D Maybe it's just me being an old fan of Marko from his own band, Tarot, with his brother and friends (If you want to check that out, you can find some of their songs on RUclips, don't know about live performances however, might be more scarce?) Nightwish IS a well-oiled machine revving to deliver us everything that is amazing about symphonic metal, yessss!

I imagine that this Wacken 2013 concert would have been the first time that many attending would have seen and heard Floor as the Nightwish front woman.... I've seen them three times, once with Tarja back in 2004 IIRC and twice with Floor this year (second night at The Wiltern in LA and then at Sweden Rock Festival and I feel blessed to have been able to see them with both those singers :) They are, as you say, a well oiled machine, no disappointment live ever :)

If you really want to hear her go high, search for Beste Zangers 2019 Floor Jansen Viljalied, or Beste Zangers 2019 Phantom Of The Opera. It might be out of your comfort zone music wise, but it gives you an insight in her versatility. Which she uses in Nightwish compositions all the time: yours Is An Empty Hope, The Poet And The Pendulum, Dead Boy’s Poem, Shoemaker, Tribal… the list is endless, and all live!. All of course due to the composing and production skills of Tuomas Holopainen and the rest of the crew. Outstanding stuff. Enjoy!

The entire set list at the Wacken 2013 concert is just phenomenal. As someone who has seen countless Nightwish reactions on RUclips, I haven't seen many do the show opener "Dark Chest of Wonders," "She is My Sin," or the closer "Last Ride of the Day." If you're interested in diving into the whole Wacken show, I would love to hear your take on these lesser reacted-to songs... after you do the more popular ones, of course!

Just a side note. This is not a newer song. This came out on the Album Once back in 2004. This was originally sung by Tarja, This show is the Imaginaerum tour, so none of the song during tis concert was written while Floor was in the band.
I hope you continue with Nightwish. If you haven't already heard it, Ghost Love Score live at Wacken (2013) is incredible. It always gets recommended to reactors, but there's a reason for that. Floor's vocals are out of this world in this. Just choose the official version from the Nightwish YT channel (or their record label) as there are some poor quality uploads around.
Well youre not alone in this, myself and some i know stoped listening after first hearing new Albums after Tarjas Leave.Were tricked more or less to this Festival, and Boy, Floor owned it so hard. Since then, i cant stop listenming to them:) Great, you do get something from it, and yes 2 Positions are changed , Drums and Bass, but i can assure you, this Summers Festivals were great , when they performed. Yes, I had the same journey like you. Right a lot to catch up. One of their newest and favorite for me is from their studio album Human and Nature, The song:Tribal. You will be amazed by the range of Floor's voice 🤘🏻❤️ There are more on this album, Tuomas has challenged Floor a lot.
I saw them live last monday in Amsterdam. Expectatons were not super high because this Wacken 2013 is concidered as the best ever. But hey (and floor) blew my mind. It was insanley good (and as a dutchman i dont like to use big words like that)
I guess you need to re-evaluate your Floor/Nightwish impression. Just take anything from the Wacken 2013 concert or follow Gabriel’s list when he gets here.
Floor is the best thing that has happened to Nightwish. I started to listen to them in 2004 when Tarja was still the singer. Anette's era made me somewhat less interested but Floor raised them to a totally new level. She rules the old songs and has added new vocal possibilities to the new ones.

I took a break from Nightwish as well after Imaginarium. I'm unsure why I did it myself, but I'm glad I came back around in 2019 and found out about Floor. :) As for a recommendation, I highly suggest her collab with Epica at one of the craziest and most amazing concerts (theatrical and light show) ever, in my opinion. I also took a little break from Nightwish for a couple years and eventually started catching back up a few years ago. This entire show is incredible and every performance is worth watching! This song was originally sung by Tarja (Once album) but it was not often played live (at least not while being filmed), so Floor's version was super satisfying when I saw it.
But if you want to hear some stuff from the Floor era albums, I recommend Shudder Before the Beautiful live at Wembley!! Show opener, I believe. That or Weak Fantasy live at Tampere!

If there's anything in it that was 'lacking' was that with Floor's vocals, so few pay attention to how well Marko and his own tremendous vocal talent jives so incredibly well with hers. x'D Maybe it's just me being an old fan of Marko from his own band, Tarot, with his brother and friends (If you want to check that out, you can find some of their songs on RUclips, don't know about live performances however, might be more scarce?)

I've seen them three times, once with Tarja back in 2004 IIRC and twice with Floor this year (second night at The Wiltern in LA and then at Sweden Rock Festival and I feel blessed to have been able to see them with both those singers :) They are, as you say, a well oiled machine, no disappointment live ever :)

If you really want to hear her go high, search for Beste Zangers 2019 Floor Jansen Viljalied, or Beste Zangers 2019 Phantom Of The Opera. It might be out of your comfort zone music wise, but it gives you an insight in her versatility. Which she uses in Nightwish compositions all the time: yours Is An Empty Hope, The Poet And The Pendulum, Dead Boy’s Poem, Shoemaker, Tribal… the list is endless, and all live!. All of course due to the composing and production skills of Tuomas Holopainen and the rest of the crew. Outstanding stuff. Enjoy!

The entire set list at the Wacken 2013 concert is just phenomenal. As someone who has seen countless Nightwish reactions on RUclips, I haven't seen many do the show opener "Dark Chest of Wonders," "She is My Sin," or the closer "Last Ride of the Day." If you're interested in diving into the whole Wacken show, I would love to hear your take on these lesser reacted-to songs... after you do the more popular ones, of course!

Just a side note. This is not a newer song. This came out on the Album Once back in 2004. This was originally sung by Tarja, This show is the Imaginaerum tour, so none of the song during tis concert was written while Floor was in the band.
I highly recommend you to watch their entire performance at Hellfest earlier this year's it is amazing

I hope you continue with Nightwish. If you haven't already heard it, Ghost Love Score live at Wacken (2013) is incredible. It always gets recommended to reactors, but there's a reason for that. Floor's vocals are out of this world in this. Just choose the official version from the Nightwish YT channel (or their record label) as there are some poor quality uploads around.

Well youre not alone in this, myself and some i know stoped listening after first hearing new Albums after Tarjas Leave.Were tricked more or less to this Festival, and Boy, Floor owned it so hard. Since then, i cant stop listenming to them:)
Great, you do get something from it, and yes 2 Positions are changed , Drums and Bass, but i can assure you, this Summers Festivals were great , when they performed. Ofc Markos Voice i sgnificant, but they really placed it up in my Ears.

I saw them live last monday in Amsterdam. Expectatons were not super high because this Wacken 2013 is concidered as the best ever. But hey (and floor) blew my mind. It was insanley good (and as a dutchman i dont like to use big words like that)
I guess you need to re-evaluate your Floor/Nightwish impression.
Just take anything from the Wacken 2013 concert or follow Gabriel’s list when he gets here.

Floor is the best thing that has happened to Nightwish. I started to listen to them in 2004 when Tarja was still the singer. Anette's era made me somewhat less interested but Floor raised them to a totally new level. She rules the old songs and has added new vocal possibilities to the new ones.

I took a break from Nightwish as well after Imaginarium. I'm unsure why I did it myself, but I'm glad I came back around in 2019 and found out about Floor. :)
As for a recommendation, I highly suggest her collab with Epica at one of the craziest and most amazing concerts (theatrical and light show) ever, in my opinion. Here is the title and video below for ya.
