  • For me anyway. I've owned a lot of synths. None of them allow me to get the sounds I want quicker than with the Syntakt. It's just the nuts. Obviously here it's being wonderfully complimented by the Digitakt 2 and the MPC One, but the sounds I can get from it are just so pleasing to my ears anyway and no other synth comes close to the efficiency of working with the Syntakt. It's a dream.
    Hope you like this

      @@optikronix I've owned the Digitone twice now. It's another brilliant box but FM is a bit too wild for me and it can go to some very cool places but it can also go to some very challenging places quickly and I didn't always like what I heard. The Syntakt has some of the magic of the Digitone but with guard rails so I always get far more pleasing results. Horses for courses I guess, but the Syntakt just has more of what I'm looking for. Glad you liked my jam 👍😎👍 thanks for listening

    ayy man that actually is some absolutely beautiful sound design. I sometimes struggle to get it out of it's starter Lofi-ish realms soundwise. Any plans on making a soundpack or some tutorials? Would love to learn the ways to these juicy sounds

    • @DanChippendaleMusic
      @DanChippendaleMusic  23 дня назад +2

      thanks! Means a lot to get nice feedback 🙌🏼 I've not thought about sound packs actually. Maybe I should. It's just about having time really. I'm just addicted to making music, the other stuff gets descoped. I've had a fair few requests for a MIDI/Audio routing and workflow video and I really want to try ASAP. I do spend a lot of hours sound designing. I work at the same desk with my gear so I tend to just work on the same loops for hours, occasionally tweaking between work calls and designing stuff. I also love the randomise on the SYN page. So many happy accidents with that or places to tweak from. Also I always copy and paste the previous sequence I've worked on to a new pattern, clear the sequence and then just tweak the sounds from there. Each track is like an evolution of the last. Ultimately it's just about ploughing as much time in as possible. Also, just have fun! Don't beat yourself up if you make something crap. It's just part of the journey. I oftn delete an entire project and start again with the same sounds and it usually ends up better ☺

    • @mashappeal
      @mashappeal 22 дня назад

      Most of this stuff wasn't terribly complicated design wise. I would recommend truly learning how envelopes and filters work, as well as how the different waves sound (sine, saw, triangle, square etc.) A lot of this is basic waves with some detune, filter, and envelope stuff. Roll off the highs for that lofi sound too.

      @souljer0 22 дня назад

      @@mashappeal At no point did he claim it was good for *complicated* sound design, just effective. Sure, there's options they left on the table, but thinking that using everything is the point is where most go astray. These sounds are lovely!

    Dope track. Really good. And agree about the Syntakt, it’s a desert island box for me. A lot of YT vids of the Syntakt seem to go into the raw/industrial/hard techno space which the Syntakt does brilliantly, but it can also do dark, soft and mellow as well. Great bit of kit.

      @@touchthatdial cheers pal. Glad you liked it. Yeah Syntakt would be my desert island box too. Easily. Although it does get pretty hot so would need to use it in the shade of a palm tree 🤣 Yep, there's a lot of techno stuff out there. I'm not a huge fan generally of hard techno. I'm a sucker for more melodic music. This kind of thing I made here feels like a natural fit

      @DanChippendaleMusic  21 день назад

      Nice one! The MPC is that brassy pad sound at the beginning (and anything that is affected when I use the MIDI Fighter Twister). I'm just using the MPC as an external synth(s) in this current set up. I just have the MPC receiving clock from the Digitakt 2. I'm currently just making a few 8 bar tracks on the MPC and recording MIDI notes to the grid either with the drum pads or the Keystep keyboard I have under my desk. The great thing about the MPC is that with MIDI learn I can just set up some parameters to control and assign them to the MIDI Fighter with a few button presses. I find it a lot more intuitive than the Q-Links on the MPC itself

      @DanChippendaleMusic  22 дня назад +1

      haha finally someone challenging my bold claim! Thanks. I was hoping someone would start the debate. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. I'm not a keyboard player, I mean I have a go but it takes me a lot of goes to get right, so for me the Syntakt is the best because it makes amazing sounds but also has one of the best sequencers in it too. I have always looked at Nords with a lustful eye, but that kind of thing is totally wasted on me due to my aforementioned lack of playing skills 😆

    • @DetroitMicroSound
      @DetroitMicroSound 21 день назад

      @@DanChippendaleMusic 👍 Check into what the Nord Mod G2 is all about tho. You can build your own synths, drum machines, effects, sequencers, using all the base componentry. You can also use logic, which can give your creations the ability to make descisions on their own, essentially playing, and evolving by themselves. But, you can also assign any functions to the onboard controls, so they are played by you. The black and whites are a good thing to have as a non-keyboard player, because of their traditional use, but also because they can be used to do lots of other things, each one also being a "button". Inside G2, you can also use mutator to evolve the patches settings, which is based on genetics. Really a fun way to explore patches, and performances sound potential, and see how your patches can evolve, without even needing to tweak controls, or evolving with a few simple tweaks. G2 is a very powerful virtual modular system, as large as a huge room full of modules. It truly can be made to do a million different jobs. Sound design on a G2, is extremely powerful. Far more powerful than Syntakt, several times over. 😉

      @DanChippendaleMusic  22 дня назад +2

      Exactly. 12 tracks all with LFOs and modulation potential. Of all the synths I've owned I feel most comfortable with this. Parameters are constrained enough to offer some guard rails but deep enough that you can find sweet spots where you didn't before. It's a gem. I just wish Elektron would bless us with an update. A new machine, or effect or some polyphony. Something. I'm hopeful. I hope they're listening 🙏🏼

      @DanChippendaleMusic  23 дня назад +2

      I'd LOVE some form of polyphony on the syntakt. It's thew one thing that lets it down. I'm sure that ST uses the same codebase as DN and that has polyphony. Even 4 voices with stealing would be fine. Just allow me to link tracks 1-4 and 5-8 as two 4 voice synths if I wish. Same with the analog tracks. I'll take anything. Just to be able to do some triad pads would be sooo good. Even without this I love this box. Sort of a constraint you get used to but would love something. I'd even pay Elektron for a custom firmware 🤣

      @@DanChippendaleMusic I've been getting some decent results with that Retrokits RK-002 cable when I play the Syntakt's 3 main analog tracks with MIDI guitar (an SY-1000). Only problem is that you've got to limit your tweaking to, preferably, just one CV controller as a foot pedal... otherwise it all just gets out of hand. Another thing is that 3 analog voices are kinda overkill to the main mix output. I'll probably reprogramme the RK-002 to just give me two voices so taps and pull-offs on the guitar don't end up cutting off the sounds. The SY-1000's synth voices are more than enough, but adding the Syntakt is real nice, a much rounder and smoother sound...
