- Today Lan decides to build a bamboo hut in the backyard of our Pattaya Home. We begin by purchasing the bamboo and then the construction starts. I'm on food duty while she constructs the hut, but eventually it becomes perfectly evident what the purpose of the hut will be.

I remember seeing on my first visit to Thailand in Chaing Mai a building site, whereas scaffolding in the UK is almost always metal. This was all bamboo, including the ramps for the wheel barrows to take materials up to go up to the next floor up. Also seen it growing in the North and how tall it gets. Amazing really, no wonder they use it so much there.
Really handy building, it will be nice to see how it turns out, and you did a nice job keeping her fed too……

That's correct Paul, I remember them building the Landmark hotel on Sukhumvit Bangkok, it was bamboo scaffolding all the way up. I thought it was a bit strange to see a modern structure being built with primitive means but it seemed to just work. 👍

Amazing, she has hidden talents..How much did the pre-built but cost?
My friend just bought a nice one not too long ago and paid 7500 baht, I've seen small ones for as little as 4000 though.
I had one in my small garden in Chiang mai .Bought it complete .It had a table and benches each side .It was mainly used when we had a party .If the bamboo is not treated it will be quickly eaten by insects .
Having bought one of those also, I discovered the same. One trip to Thai Watsadu and 800 baht for the gallon can of the proper stuff and the problem was solved. Make sure you get the anti-insect stuff, not the laquer. Simply sealing the bamboo won't work I have been told.

Reminds me of Gilligans Island in a strange way. Bamboo may find many uses in the future. Only insects and moisture may be a problem. Bamboo almost killed my wife a few weeks ago. She bought some raw bamboo from the wet market and did not cook it long enough. She needed to go to the emergency room for cyanide poisoning. Fortunately, she only ate a few pieces because it was extremely bitter. So many things we learn through life. I stay away from any new or exotic foods. There are enough dangers in life. Enjoy your tuna hut!

I did actually, we built underground forts, so there was mostly digging, with just a bit of carpentry for the roof.
The woman builds the Hutt and the man Cooks the food. In America the man Cooks the food and then he build the hut😢
