NEW Thailand Scooter - Big on Power, Small on Price

- Опубликовано: 15 сен 2024
- This should be a game changer in the Thailand Scooter Market, how about a 300 cc class scooter for the price of a 150cc class. The new DZ3 has made its debut now and today I go to take a first look to see just how well it stacks up against the competition. You may be surprised.

Good to see a program on 'Rides' and not shopping and eating excessive foods! Well done!
You forget to mention the BMW 350 cc ( type 400 Gt ) that deliver 34Hp
This bike’s engine has been around for a while now. The engine is from SYM GTS, a famous Taiwanese scooter manufacturer.Great reliable engine!
Hired a Chinese made GPX Drone in Chiang Mai last month. Had surging issues and cut out at the traffic lights ( could be restarted ,would crank but not fire ) called the shop and they came and put a new battery in it ..... still cranked over but no start ! The sticker price may be less but the reliability is also less and resale is trash . Buy quality...Buy Japanese.
Very True .I once bought a Lifan 250cc cruiser new when i lived in Chiang mai . It looked good but had poor build quality .I off loaded it after a year to some poor sod .
@@anthonyfox5337 Thought the Drone was a Thai Brand not Chinese, and has improved from the 150cc!
@@eddybluesteel9058 SYM is a Taiwanese/Chinese company that designed the Drone. It may be assembled in Thailand but is engineered and built to a quality standard that SYM dictate. Therefore its inherently less reliable and built to a lesser standard than Japanese bikes
@@anthonyfox5337 I have a SYM 400i I would not trade for any of these scooters. A very well built and quick scooter
Retired! Don't Give Up: Good review Lucas, but a little too late, took possession of my new ADV 350 three weeks ago and i absolutely love it. oh and its a Honda!
I love the space under the seat on the 350 👍
Hi
I was in Thailand for a month. Hired a Honda 350 Forza. It was superb. Honda have nailed the transmission. Fastest thing from the lights and plenty power over the hills two up. Very well designed and Honda quality. 5 stars .
... try the Yamaha next time ....
I have the ADV 350 Honda. In my view nothing can touch it. Not only does it have a good re sale value but the extras you can get are easily affordable, and to be honest you can't beat a Honda but that's just my view, great video love the bike ones cheers 😊
Honda anything you can't go wrong.
Great storage under the seat on the 350 adv
here in cambodia the adv160 is arguably the best possible bike to own of any size/category
Hi
Our PCX160 is the perfect size and power for puttering around Pattaya, Jomtien etc. for my wife and I. I have a car and use that more but still ride the bike often enough and you just can't beat the reliability of Honda.
personally I like my ADV a little better than the PCX... but both are a good choice
The Chinese will rust out in 2 years
@underworldringside how does plastic rust?
But not convenient for tall people
@@bigdavoc1 adv160 is best overall bike for SEA, including thailand.
Been watching your videos for about 4 years… never commented before. Thanks for this video! I just moved to Phuket last week and had planned to buy a larger size scooter in the next week or so. I had my sights set on a second-hand Forza (or similar) and you totally sold me on this DP3 model. I arranged a test drive for tomorrow morning at GPX Phuket, and will likely buy it on the spot. Such a no brainer… with the more powerful engine in the smaller body at the incredible price , and a three-year warranty… with service 5 km down the road from me. The better model including insurance for one year is only 103,000 baht . I’ll ask them to send you the commission. Thanks 🙏
always found the Forza to be a great bike, plenty fast enough and very comfortable, as a pillion i found the footrests very easy to use and as a driver the riding position is always relaxed, on a different note i have to say, it's taken me a long time to fall in love with Lan, but now i'm head over heels!!!, not only is she brilliant for you but she is a fantastic lady, totally practical and as happy cooking great foods as she is building a sala in the garden, best wishes to you both
Thanks Tony 🙏
I have a 2024 Zontes 350D and the ADV 350. Love them both.
Nice 👍
Zontes always gets great reviews for quality and price from reviewers. The 125 cc U1 and G1 are great city runabouts for people starting out as learners. Love a bike review video.
Nice one Loucous 👍. I appreciate the scooter vlogs. I actually finally rented one for the very first time in Thailand 6 weeks ago in Kanchanaburi near the river Kwai. I got myself a black Honda Click 160 with the keyless fob. Beautiful fob btw. Black and Gold. Absolutely loved it. I think i got it up to 110 kmh which was enough for me at the time with no helmet on lol. Can't wait to buy my very first scooter there. I like the look of the PCX or ill get the Click 160. Thailand 🇹🇭.
Just bought the 160 click and loving it.
Its very nippy and perfect for filtering in traffic .
Oh yes, and fuel efficiency is crazy.
Nice, enjoy 👍
Going to buy my Thailand girlfriend a new PC extra Honda click but I'm going to wait till 2025 I think they'll have newer upgrades on those models? I don't know who makes the new dz3 I was reading all the remarks and comments is this bike he's talking about made from China I believe ? Sorry to bother you and thank you
My mid 1980 Honda 400N had 36hp and topped around 160km/h. I trust your friend's test! It sure looks like Scooter I would buy...
You always get more power to the wheels with a chain and sprocket though, these CVT transmissions eat a lot of the power on scooters.
@@Rides4Kickz I agree!
When you say scooters, Lambas and vespas , nothing beats the euro style , mod for life 555.
I have the new XMax 300 with build in Garmin navigation, it sucks. The Zontes 350 has mirroring so you can get Google Maps on your TFT screen, great!
Outside of Bangkok, Shop rents are cheaper and dealers have less overhead and you can quite often make some pretty good deals. A brand like the Zontes might be hard to source parts as compared to Honda and Yamaha, so that would be my sticking point about buying that brand.
I’ve been following you for years, in BKK.. after watching this I’ll sure be making a visit to the GPX dealer to check this out and possibly upgrade my Yamaha Aerox!!! Great video, Thank you.
Always enjoy the two wheel content. Thanks.
Just sold my 2011 55.000 km Yamaha x-city 250.
Now riding a 2020 12.000 km Honda Forza 300.
Couldn't be happier !
When it comes to scooters I will stick with my BMW C650GT. It is not the zippy around traffic machine (it is heavy at 241 Kg dry weight) of the small scooters but it rides like a solid stable cruiser even when passing trucks on the highway. Putting a few hundred miles on a road trip is easy for this one. I did install a throttle lock because as you know twisting that throttle after an hour gets tiring without cruise control. I was very happy to see that the Route 66 Chiang Mei location has a BMW dealership next door. The GS1250 is my go to Adventure bike and since your video I now know I can get one there.👍👍
Great detailed reply to Lucas, I'm not a fan of these full cowling scooters, as pretty as they are!
Have you ever tried working on these compared to the good old fashioned naked bikes, you spend 90% of your time scratching your head trying to remember where all the removed parts and screws go when trying to
do the simplest of repairs!!! 🙃😮💨
@@dogman129 LOL. Good point which is Why I go straight to my dealer if any significant work has to be done. Let them keep track of the parts. You have to admit though cowlings are great in the rain and on the road at speed.
Yeah, good selection of BMWs there.
I love my legend 150 GPX so I'm fond of GPS I think they're innovated I would try one of these
Loved
great review Lucas. Noted the shop has some lambretta scooters also in there. Can you do a review on one of these if possible please as I have a V200 special 2019 model and cuts out a low revs on occasions which is annoying but starts on the button after. Taken it do my local dealer who I purchased it from but I have been told after some engine work is to do with emissions which I am sceptical about although they are reputable. Would really appreciate your thoughts on them it if you get time. Regards Nigel
Great review Loucous. Amazing how quick new models come out. Thank you, Loucous. Hope to see you soon. Mitch 🙏
👍👍👍
I asked a couple of different dealers about the GPX bikes when I was shopping last year.
The one knock on them, that everybody seems to say, was that if the bike breaks down parts are very difficult to get. Even though they are made in Thailand.
Deal breaker
Sukhumvit Rd Pattaya, but the part's depending on what you need, takes about 2 weeks
Value !! I am happy someone is going after Honda and offering is packed with value. I will not buy one until I talk to you😊
thanks for sharing i was considering getting a gpx drone on my retuen to thailand but this is definately top of my list of options now cheers lucas
Remember the Platinum motorbikes? Big hit. Now gone...
Get what you pay for...
Nice work & good technical comparisons between each of them.
Problem is quality and longevity, Honda has that covered 100%
If you want the best in scooter power on planet earth look no further than the Honda ADV-X 750cc. Now THAT'S a scooter! Same physical size & form factor as the weak 350cc but with real motorcycle specs and power and legendary HONDA reliability and quality.
Was waiting for this bike😊 and buying a Thai Brand for Thailand!
Great video love watching about the bikes in Thailand 👍
Mate.. Im from Australia.. Live in Saraburi... Bdre fof 6 years... Your channel is the absolute best Thai information and entertaining.. Llve your work... Stay safe.. Cheers DD In THAI
Tkans mate good video-Good Day from Australia ❤
Right up my alley. Small enough to get around Pattaya traffic power to go road tripping good price
I still have my 81 Kz 550 LTD. I am tempted.
great bike, my first street bike was an 81 440 LTD
Love it, great choices
I think one of the sidecars on one of these would be a perfect combo for Lan! Thanks for the video!
Welcome 👍
That extra horse power is always nice to have !! Thank you for sharing , enjoy ...
You bet
That was a really cool video, well done!
Here in Oz we have a host of new Chinese motorcycles.
I still choose the big Japanese four makers mostly due to spare parts availability and reknown reliability and evolution of their models.
Chinese bikes and scooters do look the business however.
I'd choose a GPX over a Chinese Zontes, but I'd still have a good look for a good used Honda/Yamaha first.
I lived on Crete in Greece during Covid many Zontes bikes and scooters as well as a lot of big Kymco Scooters, half the price of the Japanese bikes.
half the price half the reliability and resale value
Prior to 2021 the Nmax was the best entry level Maxiscoot. But Honda raised the bar with the PCX 160. Going from a 2 valve air cooled to a 4 valve water cooled engine. Don't be fooled by the slight design cue change. It's a completely new bike with upgraded frame, engine, suspension and braking plus ABS and traction control for less than the Nmax. I've been a Yamaha guy my whole life. But I switched to the Honda PCX 160 in 2021 and sold my Yamaha in 2023. Plus with my busted back the PCX 160 has the softest ride, even softer than the Forza, but the seating is much better on the bigger Forza giving it an overall more comfortable ride for bigger guys with back pain issues. Biggest complaint about the PCX 160 is the rough idle. All other issues are easily fixed with upgraded mods. But they could have at least put a brake lock button for stops at inclines.
Hey Lucas bang on your Spot and no food Wow let’s Eat 😅 thank you Lucas nice vid Cheers Chris
Interesting to see but as said before quality & servicing issues be putting me off…Prob stick to looking at 2nd hand Honda ADV or PCX 160….70-80k baht?? as many around & reasonable to service in 🧐👀🙏👍🏼
Some Nice information 👍cheers both 🍻
Good reviews Lucas 👍
I would have to give it at least two years of riding it to see how it holds up and maintenance being its a new company. Thanks for the update Locus.
GPX is 15 years old.
You bet!
what dit u say a boud LAN pocket rocket 🤣 8:18 thanks for creating and sharing
kawasaki own the gpx designation(80s-90s) even the gpx logo is the same ,id buy one
I would buy a Thailand/Taiwan made bike but not Chinese . Was gunna go for a Yammie Aerox 155 but the latest Exciter 155 looks like the go : 6 speed , slipper clutch , front / rear disc brake ABS ,17 hp , full size wheels . About 80 K .
Yes, that is a great choice and a lot of bike for the money. Seat is a bit firm but can always address that in the aftermarket.
I used to own a similar spec Chinese scooter. You get what you pay for at the end of the day, and longevity is not induced in the price of these cheaper scooters.
Well that's big bikes and scooters, can you do mobility scooters next.
Wow, 99 mph 😮
My CFMOTO 450NK only weighs 165 kgs. Yes when they start getting big it's self-defeating.
I have an ADV350.
With ABS great Thailand scooter. Zontes a Chinese Scooter. I think it is important to consider sparparts available in Thailand, as well. Not only the price.
Lucas. What’s happening at the farm. I see frogs or crabs put in the wet rice fields. Plus baby quail are put in the fry fields to eat pests. Then sold when adults in the markets.
What about the vespa and the lambretta 300's? opinion?
Great review! Are you still considering the Triumph?
N-max best mid size bike.
In Pattaya.
Great bike
N-max is uuuuuuuuugly man 😂
always helpful thanks lucas
My pleasure!
GPX DZ3 good price strong engine is there a dealer in Pattaya or only Rayong thanks Lucus
Here's what you get when you buy with something like a japanese bike. A history and availability to parts. They also hold their value. 😊
Loucous. I don't know if your interested to do it but a similar vlog about the Chinese cars in Thailand would be very good I think. There they have the Haval, BYD & the amazing looking Deepal. We do not have these in the UK or Europe. I was blown away by the list price of these cars on my last trip to Thailand 🇹🇭.
The are cheap.
Very interesting. Although I wonder if we are merely seeing the ushering in of the era of the "disposable scooter", like we did with appliances. They work and look good when they are brand spank'in new, but longevity and resale are questionable. Not a Maytag, Honda or Yamaha, but hopefully they can help reel in the upward price spiral typical of the top dogs. Peace out.
It's fast yes. If you not going to keep it to long ok. If your a real fussy long term owner. No
The plastics fade you get what ya pay for
Then you can wrap it for a new color!
Under-seat storage is the deal breaker, too small, I suppose you could add a back box.
I’ll stick with the Xmax for now dood.
Would be ideal if you were opening up a bike rental for that price.....
I still like the Honda wave a lot, for doing scooter stuff.
Cant beat a Wave for around town.
Do they have places like storages for someone like myself who will eventually leave back to the U.S for 3mos then come back to Thailand so I can keep it safe till I get back. Also, how much do these scooters cost?
Baht for baht, hard to beat the Speed 400. I know it's not a "scooter", it's a true bike. My friend has a Forza, which I refer to as the Sofa on wheels.
Great show 👍
ADV350 is the one
Hi Lucas, thanks .
I don't know if you have heard of Guy Martin. He's riding a big moped for his daily driver. One of the best TT riders and Rossi said that he was the best rider ever
Wish gpx would release their duel sport bike
They look nice but how about if repairs are needed….thats what makes me a bit skeptical, I know there is a Honda shop on every corner for ease of service…..nice review Lucas
Feel the same way. The big Chinese scooter looks a treat, especially for that price, but if you find you need a part while cruising through Ubon Ratchatani, will you have to rent an apartment for a month waiting for delivery?
@@williamsmith7340 exactly!
What does the cheapest version of a NEW Honda Wave 110cc ( EFI ) cost in 2024 ?
According to the latest data on motorbike/scooter sales in Thailand since the beginning of the year it is not looking good for dealers. Sales are way off mainly due to Thai banks not giving loans out like they have been doing. Add in the ever increasing household debt and the cost to just fill a bike with petrol and its a big so what evenwiththis new scooter coming to the market.
Yes but the industry is also a bit cyclical and can have down years and up years as well.
Cheers mate,
🙂
I wish Honda would bring the ADV 350 to America.
Where will you get the parts for these up country ? never mind in 5 or 10 years 😮 Did you get payed for this ?
Very interesting!
It cannot compete with Honda or Yamaha! The quality is different.
Can you look at the 2025 Forza ? Also the Forza that are built by BANCHA.Superbike ?
Except for Yamaha & Honda I have never heard of any of the
Bikes You Shown . I'm just too '''OLD SCHOOL ''' & will stick with
H.D.... Also the Wife said She gets a New Truck long before
a Bike ... She WINS ... Great Tour , Thanks ..
Fair enough!
Afternoon Lucas's
A farang/falang motorcycle rider can you do a clip explaining how insurance works how you get a policy for example comprehensive agreed price cover so in event of claim settlement pay out $ would be agreed price not market value cost of policy annual or monthly payment and is it a drama getting insurance you use a broker or does visa agent offer insurance service 🤔😉
What would you like a price or a scooter ? ? ? Many problems with this brand in Europe
About Zontes !
yes please ride the gpx dz3
I must disagree regarding the big scooter use. If you are a typical Thai person, it can be a handful, but I use my Forza quite nimbly around town and it has also carried this 100 kg Farang effortlessly along the freeways touring all over Thailand.
There is another youtube guy that compared the AVD all 3 sizes. The 350 was the best all round
I live in the Philippines where anybody (Filipino or foreigner regardless of Immigration status) can purchase a motor vehicle and register it in their name with the Land Transportation Office. So long as you have a local licence or an international driving permit, and have the vehicle 3rd party insured (& wear an accredited crash helmet) then you are good to go. I have heard (albeit through bar-room lawyers) that this is not the case in Thailand. I frequently vacation in Pattaya where I always rent a PCX scooter. I am now interested in buying something, and am prompted by your video to look in these new models which we cannot buy here. May I ask can I, as a non-Thai person on a tourist visa with an IDP purchase and own any size of motorbike/scooter and have it legally registered in my own name in Thailand? Thanks in advance.
I was watching @CBMedia, and Chad mentioned the vital importance of adding a loud aftermarket exhaust, just for safety! Do you agree?
Lol, not on a scooter with a CVT transmission, they just drone and sound annoying in my opinion. Many bikes do need an aftermarket exhaust to really bring out the sound and it increases both safety and riding enjoyment. The loud pipes save lives tag line from the US isnt really a thing here because local drivers do a much better job of looking out for bikes, they are everywhere after all.
scooter giveaway. ford sells an electric bike for more money. Looks good.thanks for the video.
Wow great price what kind of warranty on a new bike ?
A scooter infomercial. I'd never heard of this brand before. Hmmm
Looked at rhe GPX Tuscany 150. Very nice. Looks like a Vespa, but half the price. Will get in a few months.
Yeah, I liked that one too, thought it would be a good fit for Lan, they told us 50k I believe.
@@Rides4Kickz wow, that's a good price!!
Looks like a great deal. but the big question is it's dependability. you know what you are getting with a Honda and Yamaha.
Very true
