Lucas. I know that you will enjoy, I have been to Angkor Wat twice it never ceases to amaze me. Make sure you walk up those stairs that is an experience in itself. Have fun stay safe.
I’ve been to Cambodia. Took a tiny speedboat down the Mekong River from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to PP. saw PP and Siem Reap. It’s a surreal place. Especially at night. Siem Reap was cool. Seeing all those old temples/shrines. With carved stone faces on them. Etc.
Always been the top of my bucket list was to get to Cambodia and Ankor Wat. All my time living in Pattaya was filled up and never got the chance. Good to se the trip. Enjoy
Poipet was like the Wild West back in the day. First time travelling from Thailand to Cambodia, my friend and I thought we were already in Cambodia, in that casino area of Poipet. We were playing in the casinos and came out to leave and head to Siem Reap… Passport control for Cambodia was closed and we were not stamped in yet 🤦♂️ all the rooms in the casino hotel were full and we had to stay in the workers hotel 🤣 We got the strangest looks and biker gang flashed their guns at us as we walked to the room. Cambodian immigration fleeced us because they had to roll back the stamp to the previous day. Walked into Cambodia and then came more madness… Mothers throwing their children at us, telling us to take them. We just charged through and kept walking, followed by a gang of taxi drivers. We kept walking until there was only 1 of the 10 drivers who were originally following us… Deciding if he tried anything dodgy, we could take him 😅 He drove and stopped just before we got to Siem Reap and we thought, here we go… Switched us to the loveliest guy with a rickety old tuk took, carriage made of wood. He ended up being our driver every day for a week, $8 a day was his fee. We gave him a good tip at the end of the week and headed to Phnom Penh. Our tuk tuk driver there, again stayed with us for a week. Took us in the mountains to shoot machine guns and rockets at propane tanks… And we went to his sisters wedding 😂😅. Love Cambodians! But it was a very different place 15/20 years ago.
The guide increasingly asked me to eat at some of the most expensive places there they were owned by North Korea. I choose to eat street food it was good people were friendly and their beer anchor, white beer, was fairly good
Great adventure! I was in Siem Reap in 2016, wonderful experience! Angkor Wat was $20 US so the increase seems to be a small amount. Everyone should see it at least once! Cambodia is another foodie paradise for the taking! Played a golf course close to town that was out in the rice fields. The Bomb disposal unit was near by doing a sweep, which made me very uncomfortable! So much unexploded ordnance, from the war, still abounds throughout Cambodia, very sad!
Lucas. Thanks for a great vlog. You just made my life a whole lot easier as I had already planned to do this "run" next week. I think I'll give the creepie crawlies a miss tho. !!!
Hello Lucas! Yep. I went to this crossing to get my Thai visa renewed and a guy tried to take my visa to "help me" for a mere 2500 Bhat. I snatched it back and walked into the Thai offices and paid a few hundred Bhat (I think it was 200) and after some back and forth between the Cambodian guards and the Thai Guards and buying a very nice, very pregnant Thai guard a large Green Tea Soi Latte I got my new Thai stamp. I did pay my driver 3000 Bhat to drive me there and back plus a lunch at a Kentucky Fried Chicken in one of the truck stops but it was all worth it and instead of a 12000 Bhat Bus trip they sell on one of those Ocean Road travel agencies in Pattaya I paid my driver 3000 plus a lunch and the visa fee to show I had left Thailand and entered Cambodia and then back again. Some funny moments walking back and forth between to the two border crossings and made some friends at the border. It was quite a day!
฿12,000 for a border run????? 😲😲😲 Better take a look in the mirror and make sure someone's not scribbled something on your forehead while you were asleep!
Giant water bug or 'Maeng Da' was what she found. They are edible and can be cooked and eaten individually or pounded with a pestle and mortar and added to curry type dishes. We sometimes hunt them up here in Nakhon Ratchasima. The males contain a certain flavour that makes them more valuable. Typically, females sell for 5 baht and males for 10-15 baht. In the tourist areas of Bangkok bug sellers charge upwards of 50 baht for one already cooked.
Been to Cambodia twice. Love Angkor wat and Siem reap. Most interesting places in the temple are the exact centre, and the apsara with teeth. The other temples surrounding are just as amazing. Pub street is lots of fun too 😀 😄 😉
We took a taxi from Pattaya and the taxi driver took us to one of those offices. We fell for it :) They drove us through the border crossing, were a new taxi was waiting. So no standing in line, and i remember it as not so expensive.
Always check visa on arrival fees online in local Curran y and USD no matter where you’re going. I took a slow train from BKK to Aranya Prathet many years ago. Fun ride and a good alternative to get to Cambodia if you don’t have a car.
LOL I love how your GF just picks that bug up whereas if it was me I'd be running to the other side of the street. I have entered Cambodia around 20 times in the past 6 years. The single entry "T" type tourist visa is indeed $30. Sometimes they ask for a passport sized photo, and if you don't have one they'll try to charge a few extra bucks. There's a "E" type "Business" visa for $35 that's for those wanting to stay beyond 60 days (the "T" can be extended once only, for an additional 30). The price of admission to Angkor Wat was over doubled a few years back, there was a bit of an uproar about it at the time.
I visited Siem Reap and Angkor Wat in Feb. 2023 and loved it. Spent 3 days exploring the Angkor Wat complex and it wasn't enough time to see it all. My plan is to go back again this coming Feb. Pub Street in Siem Reap is always busy - many places to eat and drink. Would love to get the name of the hotel you stay at "Centerpole" couldn't make out the first part, looks nice - might have to stay there.
The visa was $30 when I went - you just pay at the airport/border as part of entry, same in Laos. The shop's are just providing a service and applying a mark up.
I’m assuming you were joking about taking a TukTuk from Poi Pet to Siem Reap (150km) on Cambodian roads. I think these days most people fly to Siem Reap. I visited in 2007 and took a boat at least part of the way up the Tonle Sap. It’s an amazing place to visit. Thanks for taking us on your trip.

One can ger a bus from Bangkok to aranyapathet, cross the border to poi pet, and get a bus to siem Reap. The ticket to visit the anchor wat complex has almost doubled in the last 12 years it would seem.

@@Rides4Kickz I do think there was. Especially giving punters an option to earn something while in Thailand? Please don’t leave us high and dry.
I spent 5 days there and loved it.

I like to take the same route you and Lon took to Cambodia. Thanks fro the update of the visa ordeal at the border. I'll wait to see part two of the Cambodia visit. Thanks Loocus and Lon, Enjoy your stay there.
Go for it Carleto, we had a great few days 👍
I was in Angkor Wat 2 weeks after Cambodia opened (December 2022) no tourists just a few locals. The best time to see it, I was so lucky.
Yes, that would have been awesome 👍
2022 ? post covid ?

Beautiful complex - I was there pre C19 and spending this new year there, too. Looking forward to your next video inside 🙏
Nice, will probably be very busy around New Years I would imagine. 👍
Yep, poipet to siem reap is best by bus or taxi, angkor wat by old school tuk tuk, (motorbike pulling a cart) a busy one day trip or slow 2 days. quite a site to be seen, enjoy your trip, in kabinburi at present visiting grandson, enjoy and safe travels, ed
Thanks Ed, enjoy Kabinburi 👍
Greetings from the Windy City! Awesome episode!
Thanks Scott 👍🙏
I'll be leaving the windy city for Pattaya maybe early next year for dental work. I was there before in 2011 but this time I'll need a border run at Poipet. Glad to see this update.
