    I have these and the quality is not behind Grant, Reyes or other great mexican gloves. The Alien can stand together with the brands. The performance of these are stunning. I have a couple of custom made gloves of TopBoxer but the Alien has become my favourite for bag and pad work. Just amazing, really. If the gloves say HECHO EN MEXICO, people will surely believe these are made in Mexico. Top quality.
    Anyway, I have been a big fan of you here in Korea and always thank you for detailed information on a variety of gloves from brands.
    I hope to see you list top 10 gloves soon if you have any plan :)

    Hey Carlo, great review. What glove sizes do you recommend for the Alien and for the Win1 if they're going to be used for bag and pad work? They would be getting a lot of use on the heavy bag so I would want enough protection to prevent discomfort/injury from this but to still get nice feedback too. I'm 170 lbs, 5'7" tall and have smaller hands. Thanks

    • @csquaredboxing

    Great review!
    I have a question though.
    I have the Win1 in 16 oz and I am a little disappointed about the fact that the 16 oz version uses a different combination of foam/filling in the knuckle area than the lower weight versions.
    This results in way less feedback with more of a thud instead of a pop when you hit mitts, or the heavy bag.
    Do you happen to know if thats also the case with these Alien gloves in 16 oz?
    I know the website advertises the idea that you get a lot of feedback when hitting the bag, but I am just not yet convinced because of my previous experience.
    I've emailed Muhammad Irfan but have yet to receive an answer.

    Great review again. How would you rate these for use on harder surfaces like maize bags? How would compare the custom topboxer gloves (which come in at £127) vs say the fly Superloop x (at £180), wondering if the difference in quality is big enough to justify that bit extra in price?

    • @csquaredboxing

      These work well on the maize/ teardrop style bag, a little more on the feedback side than the protective side compared to say their Win1 versions. Compared to Fly Superloop X I'd say theyre neck and neck in terms of quality TBH. Top Boxer leather is nice, stitching is flawless, and the padding is balanced.

    Hey I was wondering if you can explain the difference between Mexican style boxing gloves and Japanese style boxing gloves

    • @csquaredboxing
      @csquaredboxing  5 лет назад +13

      Yes of course, Mexican style gloves tend to be "punchers" gloves where they typically use latex foam with a combination of horse hair, this lends to be a more "damaging" glove on your opponent but a lot of the time people dont enjoy using them for sparring. Mexican style gloves also have a wider hand compartment profile with typically a flat punching surface (not as round) and have an old school feel. Japanese "style" is basically Winning style/ inspired gloves. Theres an emphasis on hand comfort and the foam padding is more protective and forgiving. These gloves are usually more popular as the comfort lends to better training as well as sparring

      I'm having a lot of trouble picking between Infinitude, Win1 and Alien. Being able to open the hand is very important to me. I had the BGV14 (similar to BGV9) previously and want to try something a little more protective and with a smaller hand compartment like a grant style glove this time around.

    I got these in 14 oz and I cannot recommend these at all. You would literally be better off getting almost anything else in the price range. I'll get to the biggest problem first; ZERO WRIST SUPPORT. You got a 10oz so you may not have noticed... but you can see even in yours the wrist padding on the palm side. There's only these odd, extremely firm inserts that kinda feel like cardboard. I almost thought I got a pair of unfinished gloves for a bit until I checked around and yep... that's the norm. These inserts are really weird... hard as rocks but perfectly flat. No padding about them. Even a giant man with large wrists would wiggle around with these things and that's after they've been tied tight as possible with lace and loops wrapped around just to attempt to make them somewhat functional... and they still aren't.
    I had a very large finger pocket, too long and I have long fingers. I didn't get a straight thumb like yours either. It's obscenely long, bowing out at the thumb attachment.
    The lining is bunched up just before the knuckle area. There's just way too much material.
    I know Grant gloves are known for being huge, but these things make Grants look tiny! There's nothing compact about these things (aside from the short length). My hands are pretty large and even fully wrapped they wiggle around far too much.
    I know he's a one man shop and specialises in custom gloves but from the mistakes he's made with these gloves I've got and failure to make a model at a different size proportionally has completely turned me off from ever doing any business with him again.
    I've tried to use these gloves for three weeks at everything from the mitts to sparring. (I only used them to spar because all of the weight is in the knuckles so they're very soft on you and your partner (too padded as you get almost zero feedback from these) and each time at each activity I had to cut it short because the wrist support is that bad.) I've been boxing a long time so luckily I didn't hurt myself but knowing if I made a mistake I'd be hurting and the shear awkwardness of these was just too much.
    Maybe I got a bad batch who knows?

I even had a word slip up when I said "they're a great value for the money" when I meant to say COULD have been a great value for money.

    • @muchawwa
      @muchawwa 4 года назад +1

      Hey man. In the case of aliens general size of the glove depends a lot on the weight. This is what Muhammad from TB himself told me about alien's sizing: in 10-12 oz aliens are compact (compared to win1s) but in 14oz and higher aliens are bigger than win1s. In the pictures 14oz aliens seems to be really big compared to 12oz or 10oz from Carlo's review. I've seen your video as well. Man your 14oz aliens look HUGE! Bigger than Casanova/Necalli which aren't exactly on the compact side. That's crazy. Topboxer's website clearly states that aliens are based on mexican style FIGHT gloves. Maybe getting such gloves in 14oz is just nonsense (also nobody besides Topboxer makes fight gloves bigger than 10oz, so it's something he should rethink). In the end I guess it should be this way: if you want aliens and want to keep them compact choose 10 or 12 oz. If you want 14-16 oz training gloves go with win1s.

    • @nb0616
      @nb0616 4 года назад

      @@muchawwa did he intend for this to be a fight glove? If so, I feel a bit bad for giving the series a hard time but at the same time I'm only talking about the larger Aliens as I had some and people wanted to get some. On the page to get the Aliens he describes them as basically an all purpose glove that can be used in competition as well. That would make sense if he was talking about anything under a 12oz as a lot of competing lads will do work in competing gloves. But given the weight goes so much higher than this, I agree it's confusing and probably shouldn't be offered... or just design a Grant trainer inspired glove... which a lot of his custom work for pros look like. They look quite nice imo those gloves he done for Chisora.

    • @muchawwa
      @muchawwa 4 года назад +1

      @@nb0616 I know nothing about his intentions, but you're right about his page describing Aliens as an all purpose glove. It might be confusing. He told me about the sizing when we had a conversation about some custom order. If it wasn't for that I'd have ordered some stock aliens in 14oz and man I'd be pissed. Maybe you should reach out to Muhammad and get your issue solved. He is very helpful and there's clearly something wrong with your gloves. Also most of the guys from Sherdog forum that are using Aliens, are using 10 or 12 oz mainly for bag or pad work. Aliens seem to be great for that. I think that Chisora's gloves (and other pros mostly) are in Win1 style. Anyway Topboxer makes great stuff but if there is some kind of a problem with scaling Aliens 14oz and up he should work it out for his own sake.
