BUT DOES IT STRIPE? The REAL WORLD Test ► The Cub Cadet Pro 960

  • Today we're mowing some of my residential lawns with the new Cub Cadet Pro 960 zero turn mower. Lot of you guys saw the debrief and drop off from Aaron the Cub Cadet rep, who did an amazing job highlighting the machine.
Today we're going to put it through the real world test to see if it mows these thick lush lawns, and if it actually is going to lay down some stripes. So far we've logged about 10 hours (in just under 2 days of usage combined), and I have to say, she's laying them down like a boss.
Just last week we were running both the Cub Cadet 960 and my Exmark Lazer Z neck and neck just trying to play catch up, not even trying to compare the machines. Surprisingly, the Cub kept up with me mowing and with my friend Brett using the Z as we cut an insane amount of lawns to finish strong.
I will say, if the mower wasn't able to keep up, I would've just shelved it in storage for the day and grabbed my other Exmark stand on. But I will say, the 960 kicked butt and held its own, and laid down some amazing stripes in some super lush wet grass conditions.
Over all I'm really enjoying the demo, and I plan to have some more mowing footage for you guys next week as we continue to log some hours on it and weigh in.
If you guys have any specific questions, leave me a comment down below and I will make sure they get answered. Hope you guys enjoy the real world test! What do you guys think about the Cub 960? I have to say, those stripes are pretty dang convincing.

No hype .. just raw mowing. What do you guys think?
For a lawn this long and lush, I think it stripes as good as any other commercial Z I’ve used.
The proof is in the pudding they say.

I dig the front end pivot as well. I've got it on my 42" I use, but not cub cadet, technically anyways. Same manufacturer. It's 21 yrs old and a residential mower but still a zero turn and I rock it on my 1/2 acre and up jobs. Thanks for the video and glad they're getting into the pro market.

I just got my Pro Z 900. It is a BEAST! Everything about reeks of industrial grade. It is the return to the IH Cub of years long past, basically my forever mower. I compared it to several $9600 models at big box/outlets and this thing is 3x the machine in the same cost bracket. Oh yeah it has a stripper built in. New CC fanboy here. Oh yeah it comes with 16cc Parkers too boot. Yeah me!!!!

Dale Nienow .....If you want a great stripe from a residential mower, I would suggest the JD with a bagging system and high lift blades. My stripes are on par with stripes from the commercial guys in neighborhood using exmarks with bagging system.
Love the A Aron comment, nice stripes, it seems like a homeowner has to get a commercial grade mower nowadays to get a long lasting mower, residential machines just don’t have the quality anymore!

that bumpy lawn looks like some trees were removed and the stumps were not fully removed. I wish someone (tree or stump companies) would tell people that when the tree stump is ground you have to remove all of the resulting mulch and then infill with soil and compact properly. its a shame to see someone have such a beautiful lawn but not put in the extra effort to get the lawn right.
side note its also a PITA to mow over them bumps.
    just saying.

As a small engine mechanic I’d say the reason the gas caps aren’t at the top is so that you don’t over fill the tanks and get fuel in the vent lines. It can ruin a charcoal canister and cause a vapor lock preventing it to start. I know that both Snapper and Kubota had some issues with this and those canisters are pricey.

Do you not find yourself leaving ruts from double cutting so much? Honest question? Cause when I try to stripe a yard, if I double cut usually I see ruts. Thanks in advance for your time!

I believe the space on the gas tanks are to grab the fuel vapor and to keep the evac system working.

Ok cool. I’m not an engineer but I just didn’t understand how come there’s so much potential capacity left over from that design. Thanks for adding.

Cub definetly makes a great mower for sho! Stripes are nice, I do feel that the Scag Velocity plus stripes ever so slightly better than the Cub and Exmark. This is how I rank the mowers based on your opinion:
    1st place: Scag
    2nd: Exmark and Cub
    3rd: Ferris
4th: Toro grandstand( Still my favorite unit!! Lol)
    5th: "Hooosqvarna"
