thanks for all these cool shoot interviews. good stuff.
Great to see another wrestling legend like Nikolai who didn't become a bitter old man. What a gentleman!
Nikolai was a sweetheart, I saw him in the 2010s at a minor league game. He was signing autographs with the Iron Sheik at a scheduled advertisement. Unfortunately, everyone wanted to see the Sheik, and no one paid much attention to Nikolai. I shook his hand and thanked him as my father got a kick out of him back in the day. He was nothing but a gentleman!
I think the guys need to take some Ques from Nikolai , nothing negative to say about anyone or anything. Looks great , almost 70 very inspiring to see someone who has not been chewed up and spit out by "the business".
These people from these eastern block countries, or central/ South America etc, back 50-60+ years ago, came up hard, working hard just to survive and lived very meager lives. They learned humility and gratitude from the time of their birth on up. We Americans are spoiled and lazy, it’s too easy for us. That’s how I see it
Hannibal, you're the best. These interviews you are doing are more in-depth than anything else that is posted. Your interviews with Kamala, Nikolai, Demoliton and others, ensure these greats are never forgotten. Thank you!
Very enjoyable interview. Nikolai seems like a sweet guy. Also, the interviewer is very knowledgeable, has a nice demeanor and is easy to listen to. Thanks for the good interviews!
loving this interview, nikolai always my favourite.
Nikolai was a great heel, and a REAL Russian (or near enough! Partially he said!) He looked the part and sounded the part... and people should always "rise and respect his singing of the Soviet National Anthem"...
Mark DP I always thought he had a decent voice it was a shame we never got to finish the song
Good interview Nikolai seems like a genuinely nice man didn't have negative feedback on anything always had nice things to say about people in the industry God bless you mr. Volkoff
nikolai volkoff is a first class man.
What a great interview! Nikolai and the Sheik were great when I was a kid. Best heels in the business along side Piper. Thanks
He seems so kind and genuine. It's really nice to see that. There was an older Croatian man named Boris I used to see at the gym and Nikolai reminds me so much of him.
I remember seeing this guy (if it's the same one I'm thinking of) in the Mid-South area around 1983-84. I remember being so impressed with his size. He was about 6 ft 8 and about 325 pounds. I watched him take 225 pounds on the bench press and pop it up and down 20 times. Get up, talk to somebody, go back and do it again. At that time I could have done 225-20 times myself, but the last four five I would have been grunting and straining. He did it like it was nothing.
Love to hear how Nikolai has such great respect for Bruno Sammartino. You can see him infer how he feels about drugs that became prevalent in wrestling. Steroids specifically. I also agree with him how wrestling is now actually taking a back seat to the other stuff.
_Ladies & Gentlemen please rise as Nikolai Volkov sings his National anthem_
Good interview. I always liked Nikolai.
I first met Nicolai in MidSouth... I was there the night he lost the "LOSER LEAVES FOREVER" match... and I got to work with him again in WWF(E). Always a gentleman, a pleasure to be around and, like DiBiase and other Watts guys, he'd introduce me to many of the other boys in the locker room and the house show agents to let them know you were smart to the business, they knew you, your work ethic and, (above all else), trusted you. I was never out of work long between tours unless I wanted to be thanks a good rep.
I saw some of the bits and pieces of this interview that were previously put up on RUclips, and I enjoyed them all. Getting to listen to the whole interview now is a real treat. Thanks for basically preserving wrestling history by producing these types of interviews with the old-timers we have come to love and appreciate.
The singing of the Russian national anthem in MSG was pure gold funny
Right off the bat this interview gets into heavy stuff. He couldn't even speak of his grandfather's death because of politics. Yet another reason why I find the wrestlers fascinating in many ways 👍another great interview
It's very interesting...refreshing, to see some of these shoot interviews to find that a good many of these guys are just regular people.....good people.
Rest in peace Josip Peruzovic Aka Nikolai Volkoff....Greatest heal ever
In the end Volkoff actually gives his ''Russian salute'' in his native Croatian. He says in Croatian ''ja vas pozdravljam = I salute you - sve najbolje = all the best - dovidenja = until next time).
One of your best interviews Hannibal. Nikolai Volkoff was one of the most experienced wrestlers we knew of. He talked about everyone. He used his language skills to interact with many of the wrestlers that didn’t speak English, very interesting. I wish he would have taken his medicine and listened to traditional doctors more.
I remember the first time i saw Nikoli Volkoff.... That was in 1974 at the Baltimore Civic Center when he wrestle with Otto Von Heller against Bobo Brazil and Andre the Giant. Awesome match.
I had the pleasure of wrestling with Nicoli many times never against him but on the same shows. He is a wonderful man. Also I love when he would perform manic tricks for us in the locker room.Especially with the red balls. He knows what I am talking about. Thank you for all the memories CHAMP.
nikolai is such a nice, charming older gentleman! proud to be a big fan of him!
Another great shoot interview
Yes fantastic interview, with a great real wrestler and a professional wrestler. And just to think all those years we booed him, then cheered him. And as a person what a great sportsmen and a gentleman. Nice work Devon.
Got to meet him and speak at length with him. Great guy.
Glad u got this interview. RIP Nikolai Volkoff.
Great interview....I loved Nikolai on the HALL OF FAME speech. This was better. Hannibal, I have a request: can you cut a piece about Nikolai's hip procedure. I am a yoga teacher & would love to have that piece & circulate it to show how doctors have you go for a procedure when all you have to do is eat healthy, please...thanks! You would be helping so many...
He is such a nice guy that playing a heel is a real stretch for him to play.
Nikolai was a such a down to earth good guy. RIP big man.
These are amazing interviews. Loved Nicholai
Very nice interview. He was such a lovely and humble man. R.I.P. sir, thank you for the memories.
Can anyone translate what he says at the very end of the video please?
I remember Nikolai when I watched wrestling as a kid from like 1982-1989. He was one of the greatest. I used to go to the Boston garden to watch the matches and I met him once. He was the biggest guy I've ever seen. Wrestling today is a joke, the guys don't even look like wrestlers. It's a shame.
HE WAS A VERY NICE MAN MET HIM IN PITTSBURGH IN THE MID 80S ALWAYS A SMILE ON HIS FACE NEVER DRANK AND NO DRUGS CLASS ACT RIP
Class. True class. A man who appreciates where his life took him, from rough beginnings under communism to the American dream, where capitalism helped him thrive.
Based on this interview , if there is one wrestler I would have liked to have a long convo with, it would have been Nicolai. I don’t know if I have ever heard someone that has such a positive and secure demeanour. Not a bad word to say about anyone! So much grace. I would have loved to pick his brain about life. What a class act!
A true class act, in and out of the ring. Pleasure to listen to this.
RIP Nikolai Volkoff. :(
Had to revisit this interview, this man could wrestle and was a great heal, and an even better man,and that's saying a lot because I hated him in the old days with a passion, man I miss wrestling when it was wrestling!!!Thanks Nikolai and you also HANIBAL! take care, be safe, and God Bless the both of you! JUST SAYIN, LATER!!!😁
such a good guy. and him and iron sheik i loved watching as a kid. i so wish i coulda met him before he died
I heard Croatia is beautiful, my cousin went there for vacation, and I thought, WHY? Apparently it is a great place to go for a vacation.
Met Nikolai Volkoff at the Quakertown Farmers Market many years ago. He was a very pleasant man and a gentleman.
God bless you Mr. Volkoff😀❤
"it was a misunderstanding".... bless his little heart.
he played his role good he looks good too
I actually learnt a lot from Nikolai’s attitude and positivity. Amazingly great person. I remember watching him vs Hulk Hogan and he shoulder presses hogan and should have beaten hogan to win the title.
Oh man, the Soviet national anthem was my favorite when he tried to sing it. Man Nikolai Volkoff got so much heat when he sang that song. Lots of laughs......
Awesome interview.
Great interview , Hannibal ! You just keep getting better ( especially since we can now hear your questions) ! Keep up the good work !
What a nice man he was. Great role model
Another great heel back when we truly had heels in wrestling.
Nikolai refers to everyone as a good guy, even Jake Roberts' father and Dynamite Kid.
This was one big dude. I was at the Spectrum one night in Philadelphia when Mr. Volkoff was wrestling Bruno Sammartino. Very short match, may have been the last one of the night. Nikolai grabbed the ring bell, Bruno disarmed him and wacked him on the head with it. As Vince would say , "For the cover!"1-2-3 over.
😍 Nikolai Volkoff amazing interview
What a nice guy!
What a gentleman … did not say a bad word about anyone or anything . Salt of the Earth man
One of the greatest heals to ever grace the ring.
The man was absolutely built for power and I'm sure his shots were felt.
great interviews man.
love the interviews Hannibal ive always been a fan of the Heels and got a kick out of Nikolai singing the russian national anthem lol thanks for doing this one with him
Hannibal love your interviews. could you try to interview Nikita Koloff
Cool I knew he was Croatian but I didn't know he spoke Russian
we need more interviews hannibal 👍👍👍👍👍
I watch a most of your interviews HANNIBAL I like your way of talking to the legends of pro-wrestling .. I'm a big fan of pro wrestling and watching from 1967 two (Y) up amazing athletes ...keep up the great work :)
Louis Albano was one of the reasons I loved wrestling back in the days of the WWWF. The interviews with Vince were priceless. Comedy gold.
The thumbnail is awesome.
I remember Blassie saying he was blinded in one eye by a ringside fan he called "some mongrel" hit him with an egg - that was hard boiled.
Met him once at Rockville Hometown Holidays, singing autographs while doing some work for the Maryland Lottery, he was pretty nice. He tried to run for public office as a Republican in that state, but lost because his opponent thought he was anti American spitting on the flag in his WWE days.
I LOVE THIS MAN. HES A CLASS ACT.
Hannibal, you're the Alan Lomax of wrestling. Thanks for the great interviews.
I know about Alan Lomax. Wonder if anyone else here does.
A true legend. A class act. A gentleman
Nikolai always won FAIR and SQUARE.
tells it like it is. Thanks. Grew up with this guy
im love Nikolai it's greatman
Boy was that sugar coated but Nikolai is a decent man so I guess it's hard for him to talk trash about anyone. Good interview.
Gotta luv Big Nikolai Volkoff over 300lb and allegedly the strongest man in professional wrestling in terms of upper body strength”
Volkoff seemed like a cool guy. I still forget that he's passed away he seemed so healthy.
Rest in peace Nikolia
Why not have Nikolai wearing his Million Dollar Man outfit with the cent sign and Property of Million Dollar Man trunks? As distasteful as the angle was, that was pretty funny. Be pretty cool if the Million Dollar Man had cent signs on his clothes and the sign was seen more. No, he doesn't look like a million dollars, but at least he's got a little cents now.
Nikolai was legitimately strong!!
It was sad news to hear that he passed
A great dalmation, his brother coached hajduk
Most of the guys from that era count Josep as one of the especially tough guys on the circuit.
What a nice guy, and so great with the freaky Sheiky!
Cant believe he didn't know about the screwjob.
Loved it when he crushed apples in the palm of his hands.
I hope people take his advice on staying clean and don't do drugs.
Unfortunately The Iron Sheik did them and outlived Nikolai
@@TheHannibalTV I remember his later interviews where he talked about living healthy and still wrestling at his age. So it was surprising that he wound up dying not long later at 70, which is actually a bit younger than the average male lifespan. I think that means he might have not made it as long as he did if he lived like his peers in the business.
Has anyone counted the number of languages he speaks?
Rest in peace Nikolai Volkoff
Nikolai does not really say any bad about anyone
I feel like the Russian national anthem needed to be sung first before this started
RIP NIKOLAI
Oh yeah, I also speak another 26 languages.....
Mr Volkoff would like everyone to stand up and respect the Russian national anthem 😂😂😂👌🏼Classic❤️
The Mongols beat Victor Rivera & Tony Marino Aka Batman. Hey Hannibal interview Victor Rivera.
RIP
