Yes Sebastian!!! Let them know! You are for sure one the most educated perfume reviewers hands 🙌 down!!
@@TheLuxuryHybrid Right? Sebastian is the Boss Scent Technician
I think it enters gourmand territory when it’s a fragrance that’s using food or beverage notes and the end result is to emulate a food or drink or make it the main focus of the composition.
Haha not even 40 seconds in and he says some people need some educating. This should be good
I basically think of gourmand as a smell that is edible .. so angel one of my faves I consider it an oriental .. where like kilians love smells edible so it’s a gourmand . Just my opinion
How noticable do you find the cocoa/dark chocolate note in Angel? It's very memorable for me, but I'm not an expert
1:55 😄👍 yes! The best definition : if this smells delicious and make me wanna eat it - then its gourmand 😂
My favorite reviewer- knowledgable, articulate, yet humble. I dream of a custom recomendación as a giveaway. Let a girl dream!
Happy new year Sebastian, Great topic to watch today. Thank you for sharing with us...
Brilliant breakdown. I don't think a note alone makes a gourmand, but the overall harmony.
Happy New Year Sebastian! May 2021 be a great smelling year for all!
Happy New year Sebastian! Happy to learn with the best.... you!!!!!!
Tnx for educate me!
Greatings from Vienna, Austria
Loved this videos and learned a lot...also learned that I will go broke picking up some of these delicious fragrances. You make them sounds so good, I need to try them👍🏽
I have always loved Orientals, even as a teenager. One of my first favorites was Todd Oldham. The bottle had a crown as s cap. I miss 😢 it!
Great list and I enjoyed it and I'm going to try these fragrances and have a happy New Year and have a blessed day
Great video Sebastián. Over the years I've learned so much from you. Happy New Year
The lines seem blurred around these categories, so this is very helpful + informative!
As a fragrance enthusiastic who wants to know more about scents and what distinguishes them...this video was perfect.
Thanks so much for another great video!
Happy New Year, Sebastian. I love gourmand fragrances. Great video
Happy New Year Sebastian! 🥂✨. Great great video as usual ✨
Amazing thank you so much for sharing enjoyed your video ♥️♥️♥️
Congrats on 100K! I’m not sure when you reached it but I just noticed. I really enjoy your channel!
For me, I have to have a ‘yummy’ reaction to a fragrance for it to be a gourmand. I have to be reminded of food or the aroma of the cooking of food. It is subjective.
Love ur educating vids Sebastian ♥️
Happy New Year Sebastien. Well explained.
Good topic! Some fragrances definitely cover both oriental and gourmand categories. Sometimes, though, there are fragrances that simply feel edible & others that may have sweet ingredients but don’t feel edible (like Guerlain Shalimar or Angelique Noir- to my nose, of course). Two of my favorite genres!
Agreed! I see gourmands as a sub-category of orientals where every gourmand is an oriental, but not every oriental is a gourmand.
Happy New year from the netherlands good information about perfums
Great video. Thank you, Sebastian 👍 I’m with you in terms of what I consider gourmand and oriental.
Foodie tasty sweet is gourmand to me and resinous slightly sweet and spicy is oriental. How about we create our own fragrance classification for those that are in between? Gourmanental = delicious foodie orientals 😉🙌
Hey! doing good congrats on the 100k sub. More to come chief.
Great video as always!!!! Videos like this make my day ❤ Happy New Year!
Great video! Happy New Year 🎆
Learned alot....thanks!
If it smells edible it’s a gourmand! That’s the way I’ve always interpreted it.
Happy New Years Sebastian!
You are so incredibly informative. New fav RUclipsr! 😁😁
But you are also a danger to my wallet 🤣
I love Vanille Banane. Such a great fragrance
Oud for love goes oriental spicy on me. Great topic 👌🏻
This cracks me up, Sebastian I love the sass when you start talking about the person who mentioned aventus lol...
These kinds of topics dominate my perfume parties 😂who needs politics
My favourite videos from your chanel are ones like this, videos with the nose knows and your fragrance journey. Happy New Year 🎉🎉🎉
Yes we need The Nose Knows to come back! :)
Happy new year!
Nice thank you for the education video. Very well explained! #fragance
I've bought samples of comptoir sud pacifique to start my collection. I've picked up a bottle vanille passion, which is basically a single note of vanilla. There's one, vanille extreme, which makes your sugar level go higher when you smell it, it's baking vanilla and milk 🥴
I didn't understand at the end what is 'true gourmand' and how subjective they are? another thing was that why do we not consider citrus, fruity or minty/herbal fragrances as gourmands because we eat those too?
I dont care what Kajal Lamar is but i know one thing, its a must own. Those of you that dont have it i recommend you remedy that in 2021
Happy new year!🎆🎉✨
I could swear you said “Gourmand” 678 times 😂😂
No you got the number wrong man, it's 679!
Take a drink! 🥴
@@ThePerfumeGuy Sebastian with the quick comeback like ⚡
Easy! Do you want to put it on a plate, and eat it! I don’t think Angel was the 1st gourmand. I had other perfumes that had more edible vanilla. A non-edible vanilla would be Eau Duelle. Especially the Edt.
My By Kilian Black Phantom is is almost gone. I have also Love don, t be shy, but I like BP more. Love is a little bit too sweet to my taste. I would love to try Guerlain/ Dior exclusives. Just wrote e-mail to them.
Favorite gourmand is side effect by Initio, and favorite oriental is explicite by ex nihilo
Boozy vanilla...you woke me up with that!
Oriental gourmand is usually my go to
Interestig topic mate
Does Comptoir sud pacifique frags have good projection and sillage or are they more of a skin fragrance?
I 💛 Vanille Banane. It does not last very long at all. If they could make something like that & have the banana 🍌 note be more lasting and have it last overall for an acceptable period of time, it would be a masterpiece in my opinion.
So is the gourmand formula basically a factor of (vanilla) + (sweetness) x (food notes/florals)? As in, non-sweet fruit notes without vanilla (ex. citrus aromatics) don't equal gourmands, but vanillic bases with citrus tops (AHS edition Blanche, A Sweet Pastry in Paris), or basically any other note would be - as long as the sweetness outweighs the rest? What about ulta-sweet floral ambers like Lapidus' Altamir? Or is vanilla the deciding factor like in Gaultier Squared, even though they smell very similar... I'm definitely analyzing this too much 😂 But certainly interested in perceptual boundaries! Because right now my only deciding factor is whether it smells like food or drink. 😂 But then again.....what about fragrances that smell like herbs or vegetables? 🤣
To the point ☝️🙋👍
Comptoir sud Pacifique is a very good house for gourmands on a budget
I have never tryed theirs scents. I must have know.
FEVE DELICIEUSE IZ MY FAVORITE OF ALL TIME
Wish I could try starlight :/ too bad it was a limited release and now retails for $400 on eBay:((
Is that Comptoir Sud Pasifique overly sweety 🤔 ? I have never tryed theirs parfumes, maybe I should. I live in country where is very little niche parfumes or parfumes at all 🙁.
How to buy and ship abroad?
A perfect example of gourmand fragrance can be tom fords wild orchid and noir extreme.
Pure example is Amouage Interlude Man, It’s Oriental, is it Gourmand? NO! Nice video by the way 👏🏾
Of course gourmand isn’t a classic fragrance category. Gourmand is a subcategory of oriental. All orientals aren’t gourmand but every gourmand I’ve ever seen is pretty much an oriental.
From your list, looks like I don't have any!
Grant soir from Mfk is gourmand? And another question do fragrances go bad ?
No it isn’t. It’s an oriental ambery spicy perfume
new video for life 2021
Angel to me is delicious in a grown and sexy way not delicious in a edible way lol! It’s not sweet at all to my nose even though it has a lot of sweet edible notes. On my skin I really only get patchouli and chocolate...and more of a dark chocolate vs a sweeter milk chocolate. To me a gourmand is a fragrance that smells edible in a sweet way vs a fragrance that has sweet edible notes...if that makes sense lol
Do you think Tobacco Vanille could be considered a gourmand?
Nope. I would’t say so. This is not a gourmand scent to me at all. Not enough of “yammie” notes. Of course it is very subjective, but just a prominent vanilla does not make it gourmand 😉🤗
I love Sleek Suede, maybe my best perfume buy of the year although Patchouli Ardent and Coromandel give it stiff competition. By itself, for me, I don’t think it goes quite into gourmand territory. I do get a very dark, black cocoa note from it but that note is almost too bitter and dark to seem gourmand but sometimes I layer Sleek Suede with Molinard’s Vanilla Patchouli and the addition of vanilla and chocolate like patchouli take the combo over the line into true gourmand land .
Gourmand I understand to be mostly related to sweet and dessert-like flavors, not just edible in general. Spicy fragrances (even if all edible spices) when they lack the sweet aspect don't bring to mind gourmand, to me at least. Same for boozy fragrances: drinks are edible after all, but boozy fragrances if not sweet or desert-like enough might not bring up "gourmand" (again, to me.) 4711 was allegedly actually drinkable (read that somewhere, not sure if it still is, at least the originals apparently were) but it would hardly be called a gourmand just because of the citric and fruity notes. (I wouldn't even call it boozy anyway.) Yet it is/was literally edible/drinkable. By that criteria alone it would be a gourmand, wouldn't it? The wikipedia entry for gourmand fragrances mentions however food notes completely unrelated to sweet/sugary, like lobster and pizza. I guess smoky "barbecue-ish" fragrances might also be gourmandish?
I purchased Angle Share! This really has to grow on me. I was disappointed. Last blind buy
Famous last words.
In my mind I think of gourmand like dessert specifically, or baking to include things like bread; pretty much something smelling like food that you need a recipe for. I don’t really lump fruit in with that or else would you call a monkey a gourmand for eating it’s banana? 🤓 However adding cooking spices, booze, or buttery, nutty and milky ingredient smells to a fruit note can make like a fruity gourmand, like how apple pie doesn’t smell like fresh apple note but like it’s recipe. But like I said I wouldn’t count any fruit as gourmand just because you can eat it. Then what about herbs, vegetal notes, wine, spice... when does it end? It’s about the recipe. That’s my mind. 🤷♀️ I have to go back and watch your orientals video to learn more about what the definition of that style smells like.
Great topic to raise Sebastian,
Gourmand is a French word and if you consult the French Dictionary Larousse, it actually means a person who enjoys eating good portions of food items. Over time, we started saying “Gourmand” for inanimate things such as perfumes and drinks.
So, the simple explanation of a Gourmand Perfume is one that has noticeable edible quality; which can be sweet, savory or fruity.
Per se, resins, woods and alcohol are not “Gourmand” notes. If they are in a perfume with other notable edible notes then it is a different story. Example is Vetiver Royal Bourbon from Oriza Legrand, has Bourbon but I would not say it is Gourmand. Palo Santo from Carner Barcelona clearly gourmand (milk and sugar) possibly cloying. There is a grey zone though, things are not black and white. Great topic again.
Spread the Fragrant Love
I know that Angel is said to be first gourmand, but imo is it not so much. I wasnt never a fan of Angel. I remember when it came and many used it.
First night of 2021 I will be dreaming of GOURMAND all night long. Hope not to wake up with a headache.
That bottle of Feve Delicieuse made my heart skip a beat. What I would give ...
Do all gourmands start as orientals?
Not necessarily as there might be exceptions to the rule but the majority should be! 😄
So how I define a gourmand? Something that smells like food and is SWEET- so Crema dI Latte....that is like a sweet pastry or cake, then I call that a gourmand because it smells like food. Just because it has food notes, I don’t call it a gourmand....for example, I smelled Mile High the other day, which has pineapple. I don’t call that a gourmand. It has pineapple. They key is sweet and foods and leans towards a food smell. That too me is a gourmand. So, if it has cardamom and spices, I put it is the spicy category unless it is sweet and edible and like food.
Gourmand = Food. Orientals = spices. Hence the overlap. Not complicated.
13:28 A banana spit ice cream sundae
This should not have any dislikes. Some people just refuse to be logical. 🤷🏽♀️
Is it accurate to say gourmand is a sub category of oriental, that all gourmand are oriental, and that gourmand is anything edible? Even though fruity is edible too and not considered gourmand. Hmmm. So perhaps all gourmand is oriental, and gourmand is all non fruity edibles.
Fruity for me is not gourmand but it's all subjective. There really are not rules.
@@ThePerfumeGuy it isn't to me either. 👌
SRETNA NOVA GODINA SEBASTIAN!
Smells like you could eat it = Gourmand
If it’s got wood in the base and you’re a beaver, then it’s a gourmand. 🤔😆 I think I have more of a pet peeve with people categorizing everything as a Blue fragrance.
Can we stop using the term oriental? It doesn’t feel good coming out of my mouth. Am I alone in thinking this?! Can’t we call it the amber family? I heard that’s the accepted term now and I’m all for it, cuz oriental never hit right imo.
Can you actually check dates on videos before you post such comments??? Because some or us are way way ahead of such comments!
Too much knowledge
I’m SICK of gourmands
Lol just don’t buy them. There are hundreds of thousands of fragrances. So many that aren’t gourmand
@@sebastienc.2257 I definitely don’t. I buy Chypre
@@sebastienc.2257 the market is oversaturated by gourmands, I’d rather not smell like sugar water
@TheJancharles good for me! I’m not like everyone else
@@brvndxxxn it’s not really over saturated, though. Did gourmand fragrances come along and completely replace every other type of fragrance out there? Are you struggling to find non-gourmand scents out there? No, of course you’re not. And nobody is holding a gun to your head forcing you to wear gourmand scents. Wear whatever you like and let other people enjoy what they like.
Sebastian, why are your followers harassing me for not loving gourmands? They can comment as well as I do. But I don’t bully them into being obsessed with my preferences
So you expect him to be responsible for what his followers do? Grow up. It's youtube. Y'all take this fragrance stuff too seriously.
