Step inside the chaotic world of my Sunset Strip band, "Shock and the Night and Day Horns," as I recount one unforgettable night in our notorious band house in Van Nuys, CA. Nestled in a seemingly quiet neighborhood in the valley, our "Shock House" was anything but ordinary. Crazy things happened constantly, and you never knew who might call it home. In this video, I tell the story of one particular "Psycho" house guest who turned a typical night into an unpredictable adventure. If you love wild stories from the Sunset Strip and a glimpse into the life of a rock band, you won't want to miss this!

I played the East Coast circuit in Hairdoo bands at the same time you were playing on Sunset. Your stories bring back a lot of memories!
Back then food was paramount. The summer of 1986 I refer to as "The Summer of Nabs" because that's about all I ate that whole summer. I remember one time the Bass player snagged a loaf of bread from somewhere and brought it to the room. It looked like a treasure chest to us! Then somebody else showed up with a pack of balogna!! Eureka!! Just then the soundman showed up with a head of lettuce, and we all shouted "Yes!! Now we have subs!!!"
Epic!
Night of 1,000 "Dude!"'s. Had a few of those out there.
I bet you did!
I like these stories, Brad. Keep them coming.
Will do!
Glory to Psycho! The Lord of this epic tale! 🤩
Wherever he may be
This should be it's own series: The Shock House Chronicles
Ha ha!🤣
Funny Story... the suspense :) you told it well my brother.
Glad you liked it
Great story Bad Brad. Reminds me of my youth. 1987-88. Living in a house with 7 other roommates: girls, booze, weed, keg parties, live bands, cops.. my rent was $85 a month! Near a university campus.. Weekend parties were completely out of control.
Wow!
Yeah, sounds about right, what's up Hendu?!!!
Dude what's up brother...hope you are doing good.
@@badbrad I can't complain, dude...in fact, if I were doing any better I'd be twins! Peace out homie.
Great story Brad and you have a way of putting the listener there.
Glad you enjoyed it
Dude! Great story man! Love the hot line…too bad stuff like that is gone forever. In some ways life was more interesting when things weren’t so easy and instantly accessible!!
Man you know it!
😆 🤣 😂. Excellent
Thanks!
Crazy story. Glad you made it out alive.
Tell me about it!
What a story teller !
Thank you!
Hello Bad Brad! 👏💯💙🤍💜❤
Hello! Hope you are doing great! Always good to hear from you.
Man, I love these stories!!
Glad you like them!
Lived in a poorly converted warehouse with a band in brooklyn, it was almost exactly the same scenario, just fast forward 2 decades. The place doubled as our venue on the weekends, so much crazy ish went down both good and bad, impossible for me to ever forget. Give anything to go back, lol.
Wild times indeed.
Great story! Yeah, the 80's were something. Sometimes I don't mind getting older. Haha!
Yeah man...fun to reminisce
Super awesome. The band house we came from had a shooting range next door.😁
Lol
I’m going to the middle of nowhere with no service so I’m downloading this to listen later. I bet this one is gunna be a banger!
It is indeed....
Fun times in the age of Rock here in L.A.! Was that rehearsal studio in Van Nuys possibly UNCLE REHEARSAL studio?
No we had our own place in one of those warehouse buildings....
I thought frostfire ,where was uncle's?
Brad! What a story!
Thank you!!!
@@badbrad 👍💯

Cool story thanks!
You bet!
A crash pad from hell! Great story : )
Thanks!
Man, you HAVE to write a song about "Psycho" and the "Shockhouse". 😂
Not a bad idea
About 8 years or so before the time you are referring to the buds were better! I do remember the the dirt weed though! I'm guessing it would be the same in the south as the west coast
Perhaps…
Great as always.. How was the lock on the you're door when u got back was it kicked in by the police?
It was untampered
The dudes were flying everywhere. Lol
duuuuude.....duuuuude
But dude. Duuuude that was deffinately not an awesome moment.
@@jerryhatrick5860 Duuuude it was totally harsh
A thousand dudes… that cracked me up.
Yeah, I think his name was Rambo, we had a few interesting experiences with the LAPD and the Sheriff's Dept...good times.
Mikey!!! Yeah I think it was Rambo but either way he was psycho!
Studio sounds like Frostfire studios just off of Sepulveda
That's not it.
Imagine being 10 years old. Riding in the back of a 1977 c10 3 on the tree with a cap from NY to Florida.
We stop in no fuck Virginia. My brother was in the navy.
Dad drops me at his house for two days..
15 people lived in that house.. Alcohol weed and I'm sure people were tripping also..
There were half navy dudes and the other half punk musicians with whacky hair and digs.
Ikt was ooretty freaking crazy but mind you. Even being from upstate NY I'm the youngest of 5.
By ten I was already getting stone for two years. And had a taste for wine. Because they started getting me drunk at 6 and smoking weed by 8.
It was still quite the culture shock.
I'll never forget the first time that summer stopping in DC first and see leather spikes and mowhawks a foot or two tall hahahaha.
Wow quite a story....
We visited my older brother, rip at 28 at the time he was in Maryland , WE stopped there first.
He had a 2 .,year old an in the air force.
I remember walking in meeting his wife. Absolutely beautiful lady but sycho.
And whaaaaaa an amazing Korina V with a marshal jc800 combo sitting next to it.
I think we heard country roads and songs about the mountains a million times and dad sang it every time.
I will break down earing those songs.
What a crazy summer.. The beaches were the best.
Ya gotta go visit Anna Maria Island with the family . Place is amazing.
@@jerryhatrick5860 Amazing tales!
We were at my friends apartment and he had a grow in his room. This guy we knew worked in a pharmacy and got caught stealing controlled substances. We called him doc. He rolled on my weed dealer and we knew it was him. He shows up at the apartment all nervous and asks if we have some weed for sale. My friend who had the grow looked like the blood ran out of his body and didn't answer but I did and I said it was dry and nobody had any in Nashville that I knew. Dude left right away but we had just smoked one before he came in and he knew we were lying. We just waited for Metro to kick the door in for hours but they never did. We think he was wearing a wire for sure. Shut man, those were the days.
Oh man.
Have you ever seen the movie Spun with Brittany Murphey and Mickey Rourke? That is what the Shock house sounds like to me. 🍺🍻🍺 oh and the brick weed that smelled like cat piss and perfume. Lol I sure don't miss that! Your roommates were stuffed & cuffed! Lol
That's pretty accurate....
DUDE! The Beer you bought? What happened to it?
We drank it.....

Oh!!! The good stuff
The generic kind from Ralph's with a "beer" label on it, a great brew.
Nothing like Idlewild south. Did Hell House have cellz?🙀 Sorry Shock House. Idlewild south was Allman Brothers.
We didn't have cells.
@@badbrad as in jail cells in Shock House 🏠 ha ha!! Always had my own place! Roommates were not in my vocabulary! Liked being alone.
@@DanaDeerwester I hear ya there. Roommates...not fun lol.
56 views 18 like c'mon people it won't break your finger to hit the like button. It won't make you miss your open mic blues jam hahahaha.
Which is tonight by the way. Along with food trucks and 4 other stages of music.
LMAO
Hey Brad...i played alot of music...I said it once before on your podcast....."playing pro music is more dangerous than bull riding"
Indeed it is.
im a 53 year old musician/ sound engineer , i thought hard about the strip sound and the music that came from it, it dawned in me that the vast majority of music was absolutely horrible and juvenile teenage crap, hair metal was worse than disco which is why it was so easily removed by awful unoriginal garbage bands like nirvana.
But tell me how you really felt. Seriously tho what you know of that genre is what the labels put out. You never heard my band or many others that weren’t signed so maybe just maybe not everything was garbage.
@@badbrad that’s true, im talking of popular mainstream bands getting all the radio airplay, ( poison, cinderella, ratt etc) one exception for me of the hair metal was whitesnake, what was your band called?
Originally called shock then Boy Elroy and eventually Room 303
Actually Nirvana is terribly OVERATED, I've heard better guitar players in my Basement
@@zeketrick lol
Ha,I didn’t go that route but I rode in back of u haul trucks with the door open for air ,with all the equipment ,roadies, chicks, band members, all kinds of shanagains happening.
I would imagine and expect no less lmao. 🤣
You mean Wild Bill ?
No this wasn’t wild bill. I remember that guy.
Grew up in Van Nuys. Went to school in Van Nuys. Saw all the happenings in Van Nuys. Why it always go down in Van Nuys? 😂
Van Nuys doing Van Nuys things
