    Martin guitars marketing are smart. I kinda figuured out why they did this new "Street Legend"...
    They KNEW that the 58 D-18 "E" would never sell, and be too complicated to
    manufacture. The D-18 "E" never sold to begin with! :) ....so, this is the next best thing. I think it's amazing. I just wish
    they would give me one out of a good faith, and because it would be a nice thing for them to do. I really would love one.
    I had an "Authentic" D-18 a few years ago, but I had to sell it cause I'm broke. But it was stunning. I know this guitar isn't an
    "Authentic" , but it's a Martin, it's a D-18, it's brand new, and I would love one. Someone (who eventually ended up having it)
    sold it to the Martin Museum a decade or so ago, and they own it, as well as the rights to the patina, provenance, etc.
    And, I would bet dollars to Donuts, it's one of the most popular guitars in the Museum. -Besides the Hank Williams one, and ELvis one.
    I'm glad it went home to Nazareth where it was born and gets ALL the attention and care it deserves. Like an old veteran sitting on a
    porch with it's brethren being admired and saluted.

    I'm curious how this looks up close. It certainly looks convincing on video. I do wish the tops were printed with different wear patterns, though. It's going to look pretty obvious when thousands of guitarists have D-28's that all have the same wear patterns. Maybe Martin will try that if these models do well.

    What’s next for Martin? You may notice that all of the demo videos show flawless fretboards. Now that they have stopped dyeing the ebony, try to find one yourself that doesn’t look terrible. They are also using spruce tops that have major scars on them. They have totally jumped the shark

    This process beats the artificial destruction of a spruce top, I own one…….it’s freaking awesome, traded a D-16 RGT in on one and don’t regret it for a minute ☝🏻😉

    These are awesome!…love the finish. 1st Generation Fender Road-Worn from 2007 seemed to be universally hated…dropped from $899 to $499 for a while. Today, if you are lucky, you can pick one up in the low $2000….and it will be the same for these..

    I’m sure the next step for Martin for this model will be a baked top- as an option for going for an aged look- it just makes sense to bake that top. Of course then you’re competing with the relic models when you do that but I think it would add value to this model if they did so and perhaps win over some of the people that can’t seem to get over the fact that a digitized photo is laminated onto the top

  • @thesimulations8900
    @thesimulations8900 Год назад +12

    Just listened to the description. Wow not even fake aging. You get a "photo" of actual aging laminated to your top? Who on earth wanted this? Remember those foto flame finishes everyone laughed hysterically about? Now we have foto aging? Unbelievable.

    • @chrisk8376
      @chrisk8376 Год назад

      This will be the year reverb becomes flooded with aged looking instruments because they won't be cool anymore. Kind of like what happened to tattoos when high school kids started getting them.

    • @MaurysMusic
      @MaurysMusic  Год назад +3

      To each his own, no doubt.. but if these look like they're really relic'd (and they DO), isn't that enough?

    • @chrisk8376
      @chrisk8376 Год назад +2

      Yeah, bottom line is it IS a true standard series Martin. All joking aside, I still want to play one and see how it feels. I do like the stage one aging that Martin did on the custom shop 37 authentic. That is a guitar to behold!!

      @@MaurysMusic so by the touch the top surface doesnt feel “worn” at all? Does it feel new?

    • @zeroceiling
      @zeroceiling Год назад

      @@chrisk8376 …I remember Fender coming out with their Road-Worn Teles and Strats back in 2007. It was pretty much the same discussion..and what started off at $899…went out at fire sales for $499 in some cases. At one point I had 4 Joe Strummer Teles…not because I loved them so much ( though the neck is awesome!!)…because I couldn’t resist buying them on eBay for $349. Each. Well I sold each one ..made about $100 on each at the time. Sure wish I had those back….because you can’t touch one on eBay for under $2,200.00 at this point..and all the rough 1st generation Road-Worn Teles ( the yellow / ash in particular)…are all nearing the $2,000.00 mark….and by God were they all hated at the time. I can’t predict for sure…but I would almost guarantee that people will not lose money on this D18….it will be a stop sale after 1-2 years…nothing will happen for 5 years..and then these things will suddenly become a hot item again. love it or hate it….you cannot lose money on this guitar in my opinion…

    FYI - I misspoke when I say "Nitrocellulose" satin finish. The satin finish at Martin is achieved with a catalyzed lacquer not a nitro lacquer!

    People are going to say this and that about how it looks aged, how they did it, blah blah blah. But Martin knows there is a whole generation of people like me excited to grab a Standard D-18 that looks like Kurt Cobain's. I love these new releases!

  • @Michael-bm8hi
    @Michael-bm8hi Год назад +6

    Admitting, that I like (not too heavily) aged electrics a lot, but for me it is difficult on acoustics. And this aging here is not subtle, just brutal and ugly. Their D-28 and D-18 Authentics (unfortunately with unadjustable trossrod) look way better. I am not sure if this in the end will work for Martin and hopefully the new CEO is not harming the brand (too much eyeballing towards Gibsons 'new way' of marketing).
