Another great lesson, thanks Justin. Wanted to mention, unless my audio interface or headphones have suddenly freaked out, it sounds like your voice is clipping a bit at points in this video, sounds like the mic gain was maybe up a wee bit too high (at least early in the vid, haven't finished watching yet...)
I am 60 years old and decided to learn picking style guitar from strumming guitar. I have to say, Justin you are an amazing teacher. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. I tell everybody "This guy is amazing"
I came to guitar for rock and roll, but I find that folk, country blues, and country fingerstyle keep me going. Really enjoy more fingerstyle added to the lessons. Cheers.
That "Thumb, thumb, thumb, index, middle, ring" right-hand finger assignment became my "home configuration" when I first began studying finger-style a few years ago (after years of only flat-picking). Similar to how tennis players or karate students have a "home stance" to always be their "get ready to react" position, the "TTTIMR" always welcomes me back. I can step out of that pattern when I need/want to... but it always feels natural to go back to my "home stance" as a point of reference. Thanks Justin for yet another fantastic lesson!
Thanks Justin. I am essentially a beginner that started after taking up building stringed instruments as a hobby in my retirement. Once I had built a baritone ukulele with a solid Mahogany top I was inspired to learn to play it. I had a tiny bit of experience with guitars from my youth, but the nylon strings and restricted to just d, g, b, e along with today's great instruction that can be found on the net and free metronone apps and tuners found at the play store has made being successful at making pleasent progress so much easier than 40 years ago when I was 27. So much so that when I found a very nice Kala classical parlor or 3/4 guitar with solid Mahogany top at Sweetwater that for its price is outstanding in both quality of build and setup from the factory that I bought it. I bought as opposed to built because I can't actually buy the tone woods needed at Luthier Merchantile for much less than I paid for the instrument. I knew I would likely buy or build the classical if the Baritone Ukulele worked well with me and because of this I used and use fingering on the baritone Ukulele that is identical to the classical guitar so that I have a single muscle memory for any chord shape. What has been most helpful for me has been two videos you produced one year ago on the topics of rhythm and timing. Rhythmic Dictation was a major part of one video and it has really impressed this retired mathematician and is absolutely a wonderful tool for deriving the underlying rhythm of the percussion and rhythm instruments that pertain to any piece of music. For myself practicing the dictation lead to a night and day difference with respect to pulling out what is needed for a strumming pattern and practicing over the metronone is worth its weight in gold too. As far as the four finger picking patterns. This will be nice to add to my practice routine. At 67 I lost any youthful residual 'in-a-hurry' for a result and I am quite content to practice, practice, practice and getting there eventually.
Thank you so much for this Justin. This is exactly what I need to practice to take my next step in learning guitar. I’m going to use the 4th pattern to try to learn As Tears Go By.
Many thanks for the super thanks and supporting the channel. It means a lot to Justin and the entire JustinGuitar team. Cheers 😊 | Richard_close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Approved Teacher www.justinguitar.com
Just paid for your one-year app course. After watching your vids, I think you'll help a guy with old un-cooperative fingers actually figure this out in half an hour per day. You're brilliant!
Thank you for this. This is exactly what I've been looking for since I started learning Travis picking a few weeks ago. Its nice to work on some other patterns.
I had to snap myself out of it. At about 5:26, I think I was being hypnotised! Thanks Justin. Really motivated me to chuck the pick and get back into fingerstyle. Not sure if you have been back to AU yet or are about to, but if you have, I hope you had a ball, and if you haven't yet, have fun! Airlie would be awesome. Adelaide is super cold!
I appreciate your work explaining how a beginner should learn to play the guitar. And it is so great that you are showing different ways to play. Thank you very much for all this!
Hi Justin where should I start with your guitar lessons? I’ve been trying to teach myself for a few years cough-20-cough… and feel I need to try and restart my journey as I’ve never progressed to where I feel I should or even could!
Yay more finger style content!!! I’ve been learning guitar and I’ve been so frustrated that all the songs I’ve been excited to play are finger style ones…
Nice way to approach it, Jus. I've never learned how to fingerpick so now I'm ready. I'll keep you posted once I begin as to how I'm coming along. I do know one song fairly well, but not real well because the transitions are so challenging. It's called "BLACKBIRD" by the BEATLES. I never kept learning that style because it seems so difficult. I think you know what I mean. I'll be back. Bill
Hello Justin, I am older and am medium player. I have had a few bands I travis pick well but that's the extent of finger picking , your lesson is helping///could you reccomend familiar song to practice using these patterns. thank you. I Play mostly at home now. hoping to get stronger.
finger style was simple. but things you told to do is some serious practices. I think that there is very impotent lesson. thank you you are a good teacher
Thanks a lot Justin for this valuable video. What still remains a mystery for me, however, is how to arrange a song in fingerstyle. Any tutorial you are planning for that?
i started using your app to help start but after a while i could not afford it, so i been going thru youtube videos for FREE and aslo the help from my pastor for FREE!!! FREE IS BETTER
Hey Justin! Your videos are amazing, and I’ve learned how to play some hard songs surprisingly easily from you which has really been so much fun. Do you think you could do a video on how to play The Underdog by Spoon? It’s such a great song. Thanks for the videos!
The chords remind me of the beautiful version of Autumn Leaves by the late Eva Cassidy. Now that is a finger style I wish I could do. She adds lots of hammer ons and moving bass lines. I could listen to it all day.
When playing an A minor chord, your middle finger is positioned on the second fret of the D string, but you never pick the D string. In that case, why do we need to hold the second fret of the D string if it's not being played? Could you please clarify?

pattern 5 sounds to my ear like it has better resolution... or comes home... more than pattern 4. I guess either could be right depending on the intent of the song.

If I train the pinky finger from the start. Would it help me in the long run?

I’ve been absolutely slamming through your vids ever since I got my guitar 3 months ago. Thank you so much for everything you do
Just paid for your one-year app course. After watching your vids, I think you'll help a guy with old un-cooperative fingers actually figure this out in half an hour per day. You're brilliant!
I’ve always found it hard to play fingerpicking style. Must try these exercises. Thanks for the lesson.

Started four months ago too
Thank you so much for going slow with the lesson. I’m just learning the first pattern before I go to the next one. You are truly the best teacher!!
I'm really happy I've found your lessons!

Hi Justin ,i always notice ,the blanket behind you,we had one very similar, for our children, we live in Sydney
Thanks a lot Justin for this valuable video. What still remains a mystery for me, however, is how to arrange a song in fingerstyle. Any tutorial you are planning for that?
Roy Clark used an anchor finger and he was among the top notch best !
Hi Justin. Great lesson and tone. What is the pick-up in that guitar? Looks like an in-body microphone? Thanks, Simon
i started using your app to help start but after a while i could not afford it, so i been going thru youtube videos for FREE and aslo the help from my pastor for FREE!!! FREE IS BETTER
This guy's awesome
I'm the king of bad habits on guitar, so hard to retrain the hands and brain, this are super informative and professional lessons. Appreciated 🎶
Hey Justin! Your videos are amazing, and I’ve learned how to play some hard songs surprisingly easily from you which has really been so much fun.
Do you think you could do a video on how to play The Underdog by Spoon? It’s such a great song.

I'm learning guitar because of her she is an icon
Look up the video lesson by drue James, I've been learning that version and he explains it very well. One of my favorite Eva songs
@@Jaahysquashy thank you.

Can you please do a lesson on meet the moonlight by Jack Johnsons on his live acoustic performance
What guitar are you using there Justin it looks comfy
Good tutorial. which key is the chords progression?
Check the lesson on the website and discover the progression Am C Dm E | That is a common A minor progression | LievenDV | JustinGuitar Official Guide, Approved Teacher & Moderator
E isn't part of Am natural minor so I guess it my be harmonic or melodic? i need more music theory
Thanks Justin! This lesson is so great 🎉
Finger style is my favorite way to play guitar.
Would love to see a lesson on ‘Now and Forever’ by Richard Marx. 👍🏻
First rate, Justin.
*_Amazing patience for such a monotonous drill._*
Can I request a lesson on lucy by skillet? It's a good song and I can't figure out how to play it
What is the name of your g
Guitar
I wonder if you have done finger-style versions of "House of the Rising Sun" and "Knockin' on Heaven's door"?
Justine, since you knew music - the timing, playing guitar, etc. I believed you can compose songs.
Sir I am from India 🇮🇳. Sir could you please upload a video about filler pattern?
done
pattern 5 sounds to my ear like it has better resolution... or comes home... more than pattern 4. I guess either could be right depending on the intent of the song.
Hey Justin , I'm one of your registered users and I can't open the tab file on the website ??
Im a proud grade 2 graduate
Hi Justin would you consider doing a lesson on The Speed of the Sound of Loneliness ?
It's great song to practise fingerstyle guitar.
I've never seen it written as 4:4 time (with a colon) before. Usually it's 4/4. Anyone else agree with me?
If you take out Dm and ad a D and a four string F, then you have House of the rising Sun
if you want to play john mayer thought just throw this out the window ;D
the audio on this video is weirdly louder than anything else on youtube
Thumb 1 213212
Norm McDonald's twin....no ?
Way too much talking sir. Play more without vocal accompaniment
fanstacit great instructions
