Jack White is by far my favorite fuzz user, every single piece of music that he releases that has fuzz in it is organized chaos, so loud so fuzzy but beautiful and melodic at the same time

"Grab a fuzz pedal, go play it, have fun and remember why guitar is so special, it's not about how cool you're, it's not about the great gear, it's not about all that stuff, it's about having fun and there's no better way to do that than play into a fuzz pedal, incredibly loud and annoying everyone around you". I really liked that phrase from the end of the video, it's very accurate and I think every guitarist should always keep that in mind. Great video Josh!

Smashing Pumpkins defined fuzz for me in the 90s. It was so big and gross that when EHX re-released the op-amp fuzz, I pre-ordered it. Only pedal I’ve ever pre-ordered and it is awesome.

As a very young lad in 1972 I joined the Navy. I was gifted with a Pignose in 73 or 74 "so I could take it on the ship", I had at the time a beat up 1970 Fender "Competition Orange" Mustang that a friend had given to me after he came home from VietNam as a Marine Navy Corpsman. He had lost the use of his left hand somehow and he knew he would never again play it. On my 1st ship I used it as "practice" amp in one of the ships shaft alleys (great acoustics down there) and then it became everybody's "fuzz box" in the music rec room. That was my first hands on fuzz! It worked great for my blues harp playing as I soon realized that I wasn't a guitar player. LOL Thanks for sparking some fond memories... you do a lot with sparkingish things I've heard.

It took me a while to get into fuzzes, honestly. Like chorus pedals, where I dig the sound but never could use it properly and I tried a lot of them pedals. Same with fuzzes, where I manage to play dozens of them and the one which opened me to fuzz world was the Zvex Fuzz Factory. So many useable sounds from this little box and a great amount of crazy sounds as well. Because of this unit I can tell I now can start my fuzz odyssey again.
My dream fuzz tone is from Bill Frisell’s DVD, Live in Montreal Jazz Festival 2002, the song is “Ron Carter”, where it gets from those haunting guitar chords along with brass section to that slow bluesy part, to the point where in the middle Frisell starts his mind blowing solo with THAT fuzz tone. It’s exceptional and I want my guitar to sound like this one day.
PS Great idea with that Vlog series!

Can't believe nobody here has yet mentioned the fuzz in the Steppenwolf song "The Pusher". I've absolutely loved that sound since I was a little kid. Same with "In a Gadda Da Vida", and Fridjid Pink's version of "House of the Rising Sun". Those were some epic fuzz tones, to be sure.

I get best fuzz tones by running into either a slightly crunchy amp or a high headroom pedal with a small amount of clipping. But some fuzzes go nicely into clean amps, as long as the bright cap is off.... but in the end, it’s all in what you are looking for. Especially in the studio, miking can change an insane fuuz tone into a buttery, singing beauty, so the possibilities are endless - which is one of the best things about fuzz :)

I remember the day my dad walked into my room(late 1997), shaking his head in disappointment when he thought I had blown the drivers on my speakers. I chuckled a bit, and told him, "that's just the Fuzz on the bass", as Radiohead's Exit Music played on. He laughed; I think he had an ah-ha moment of how cool it is to hear something again throw him off like that.

So I just recently got into watching your stuff, and I can’t STOP watching your stuff... I’m trying to learn as much as I can about the various guitar effects as possible and , for awhile, was wondering if you thought any of these boxes sucked. You know, I’ve been around awhile, retired and enjoying the time to be able to do all this. One thing I believe I’ve learned listening to you is that this whole thing is totally subjective... if you say it sucks, that only means it sucks to you! If, as you say in this particular video, Jimmy Page uses this particular fuzz box, that doesn’t mean ‘that’s good enough for me’. Thanks Josh...

Glenn may have done the Fender Blender octa fuzz. When I was just starting playing 13 neighbour from my childhood house in Detroit amazing blues/rock guitarist in the local scene yet unknown only known by a few.
He had the original Maestro Fuzz "Silver housing" and original Fender blender with Arion Stereo Flanger which is mostly like an analog mxr flanger & stereo in a plastic housing very sleeper flange.
He had these three pedals run into an original Fender Bassman head full stack.
To a 13-year-old this was a Monster stack with loads of Clean, reverb sustain with pedals of course.
Still, remember the first time playing through it total eargasm. Same identical Fender Bassman head John Mayer has used in his live rig.
I shoulda had my dad buy both fuzzes's from my neighbor he was selling a few gear pieces at the time.
My three favorites where the Maestro Fuzz, Big Muff and FuzzFace.
After bugging my father to get me a guitar, amp & pedal for long time.
He got me my first & favorite sleeper Fuzz DoD classic fuzz which can do Big Muff & Fuzz Face great plus a Dallas Arbiter fuzz. This is a dirt cheap fuzz overdrive boost pedal. Only used for a few days then it got stolen by an a-hole.
Pretty sure you guys at JHS has played through it. It can do Hendrix, the Smashing Pumpkins, the Melvins etc well but it's very noisy which needs it's own loop doesn't play well with others. haha

I'm really liking my red Jimi BOG fuzz with the white knobs that when dialed back makes a great distortions with some hair on it like some ZZ Top. I'm also liking a new Park Fuzz that gets early Beck and Page which seems like a Tone Bender clone!

At the moment, the only fuzz at my disposal is in the Keely Darkside which permanently resides on my pedalboard. I’m pretty sure it is based on the Big Muff. The JHS Muffaleta is on my wish list. That thing is like a Swiss Army knife when it comes to fuzz. Love your videos Josh! It is so evident your love and enthusiasm for gear and the instrument itself.

So glad you gave a shout out to Deep Sea Diver! I first came aware of her when she was playing guitar with Beck. I absolutely love your vlog. I'd love to get your take on the difference between OD, Fuzz and Distortion (Unless you've covered it already and I just haven't found it yet, in which case, I am an idiot)

I love watching your videos. I too love all stimo boxes and such. Your passion and love if effects is inspiring. Please keep it up. I started building and modding stuff years ago with build your own clone stuff and crap from the net. Also love to watch you demo stuff. Thanks bro.

I'm really specific about fuzz, but when it's the right fuzz, I go weak at the knees. I started off with a ts9 through a big muff, but wanted something different, so I used a Fulltone Catalyst on my last album. It got closer to the sound in my head, but I still found myself on a quest. my latest acquisition of fuzz was a DOD Carcosa, which is super versatile, but I still wasn't satisfied. That said I got a Prestige not too long ago and have fallen head over heels to some extent. It goes before my raspy rhythm fuzz set to low gain and gives a beautiful burst of colour and pushes the fuzz harder...so I bought a second Prestige...Thank you for having made them.

Had an original Fuzz Tone. Loved It!!! Bought a Scott Pedals Fuzz Unit. Sold the Maestro Fuzz Tone soon after. Some Originals are definitely worth hanging on to. Probably should have held onto that one. 🤷‍♂️ You just can't keep everything. I have tried, but there is just so much gear. Sometimes you just have to sell for the direction you are in at the time. Nuff Said 😎

These Vlogs are AWESOME! I dig the epitome of classic, Are You Experienced by Jimi Hendrix. Lots of fuzz on that!
