I just ordered a 2024 size 162W. i wear size 13. Boot and im a taller dude and weight a bit more in the 260 range. I’m buying this this board as an everyday rider to replace my ride timeless free ride that is stiff af. I’m hoping the fact that it’s an all mountain/freestyle will give me a little more flexibility in the hard pack, tree runs and handle better there, and handle better in the chop than my ride!
Great reviews and i always love watching 'Top 5's' when they come out. I'm looking to get a new deck that is all mountain/freestyle. I ride smaller northeast area with a lot of hard/frozen surface. Got back into boarding recently, so skill set is between beginner/intermediate (long green dots, some blue squares.) Want to get into park riding, butters, sidecuts. Lifelong skateboarder, so my style gravitates towards that. Question is: was looking at the LT Box Knife, but it is recommended for intermediate and up. Would I be better off getting Box Scratcher instead, or possibly the EJack? Or something different? I ended up with a Rome Anthem last time, which was just way too stiff for my needs and don't want to waste more time on a board mistake. Been doing a ton of research, but can't seem to settle on an answer. Would greatly appreciate your insight since you know way more about boards than, well, everyone it seems. Thank you.
4the season ride 20/21 will be my 5th. Probably 140+days. I have 2 seasons on the knife 159W it's my second board. In one season on this board I progressed more then three seasons on a "recommend beginner noodle." Going to CO in late Feb to board for 3 days. Breck or Loveland?
Love these reviews, thanks angry. 6'2, size 11, 215lbs. Live out east, annual trips to BC. Everything from cat days to trenches on groomers. Side hits, jump laps, hitting the bootpack when the bowls open. I consider myself a charger. Been riding since 97 if that means anything. What size you thinking?
I have this exact board in 154. It is smooth stable, predictable, and fast. The grip on eastern ice is insane. Healside just locks in then kind of chatters for me when pushed hard. It doesn't really skid turn. I am 5'6" and 150 lbs, size 9 boot. Question. what is another board kind of like this with quicker turn initiation and slightly more forgiving carve? Are these ? Riders choice c3, or dynamo c3
On the market for new board and really listening to your great and informative IMHO reviews. Thank you the effort. I think I’ve already set my eyes on this board. Riding mostly groomers which are quite often icy, then towards the end of the season slushy. My level is advanced with orientation towards making progress into carving. Would you recommend this board considering the above?
I know it's been a long time since you reviewed this board, curious if you can recall how it compared to the Niche Story? I have a first run Niche Story and looking to finally retire it to being a rock board and the EJack Knife is number one on my list before replacing with another Story. I love my current Story except for how stiff it can be when trying to mess around with butters, and it's a little long for the ripping through the tighter trees. Other thing I'm curious about is how handling the chunder compares on the two. I love that the Story just seems to rip through everything and remain super stable, would you say the EJack Knife follows suit or is prone to more chatter?
Hey man, awesome review! Can you help me with sizing, I’m a 6’3 210 lbs guy but I have 10.5 US so not really suited for wide ( I think). I see the 2022 model only has 162 in WIDE. Do you think I should get a 159 or go for the 162W?
Honestly unless you have some bulky ass boot like a 32 or Vans either will work. Personally I'd go to the 59w so you have more surface area under foot which will give more stability and help you stomp better.
yep it is. I would stay around a 155, if not go smaller if its a board thats meant too downsize on. I used to ride 159s or bigger and once I went to a smaller deck my riding got noticibly better all around.
Hey man considering this vs jones mtn twin. Latter was good, a tiny bit too damp for my taste, and slipped out a couple of times. Prob due to shit technique, but tried a rossignol jibsaw and the magnetraction helped. Vs the mtn twin, which ones softer and is it more stable for carving? Thanks.
I’m 5’11 and 215 lbs. this would be a daily driver for me so everything from tight trees and moguls to open boulder fields. Boot size is 11.5. You think the 159w or 162w?? I already have a trice pro 157w for short board days.
I picked up a 159w and this is my new fave. Set up with strata bindings modified by adding unions exoframe 4 stiff strap and bam. Turns fast and easy for trees. Holds a hard line for stupid landings and crazy composed in chop without losing the character of the wood. Easy to find pop and stuff enough to go big.
I'm sure if you go to www.lib-tech.com and look it up yourself you'll get the answer faster than waiting for me to do exactly that. But hey what do I know.
Hey I’m looking to replace my daily driver. Which has been a slash straight narwal 161. I ride at baker primarily and rarely ride park. I want a mervin board that can do everything but is playful for buttering as well as hitting drops, natural jumps and powder. I have bigger boards for the super deep days. Definitely more of a freeride focus than a freestyle focus but want to be able to do some of both. I’m 5-11 and 195 lbs. trying to decide if a 159 or 162 is a better choice. Or any other mervin board you would recommend for these purposes.
Hey man! Thanks for the work you put in! I've been trying to decide on a board and have watched so many of your videos over the last week. I'm mostly set on the Ejack but have one worry. I'm more free ride than freestyle, but I love jumps. My riding in a nutshell: steep carving with trees/going fast as fuck > jumps (kickers and some natural /groomers groomers. I've never been very interested in rails and such. This board sounds like a match besides that you said it can chatter at speeds and that worries me. Should I still get it or do you think there's a better one?
@@AngrySnowboarder I checked it out and it looks awesome except maybe that it's not quite as stiff as I'd like. Would the PYL work? (Carving, trees, speed, some jumps but no other park stuff). Oh and I'm coming from a 2006 volkl coal lol.
Hey man, I bought the Jones Flagship 2020 and looking to get a 2nd all MT. Free style board. I'm a bigger guy with size 13 shoe with more skill towards freeride but want to progress in freestyle. @@AngrySnowboarder If I want to be a bit more playful and free style focus. what would you think would be a good size bord for the Ejack Knife for my metrics. Very in depth reviews and so much content before anyone else in the world!!
If you're going for a more freestyle focus you can definitely size down. That's what I typically do with my park boards. Just understand as you're heavier and going to a smaller board it'll loose it's stiffness and rigidity which makes it more playful.

@@AngrySnowboarder Thank you. That is the board I wanted the most.
How is this board compare to the Burton Custom?
More damp, little different edge hold due to the Magnetraction, similar flexes, and the pop will be a bit different due to the C3 profile.

Ejack is a little looser in the tips so I'd say the Mtn Twin is better for carving.
@@AngrySnowboarder cool ty. And mercury still better than both ejack and twin for carving and stability?
Stability goes to the Mountain Twin, I think the sidecut is better on the Mercury but it doesn't grip like those with Magnetraction.

Circle back next month when we drop like 30 binding reviews. Tons of Bent Metal in there.
So even though the Hot Knife is a 5 on their flex scale you'd say the E.Jack is still the softer ride? (The E.jack is rated a 6-7)
Correct.
Awesome, thanks
