Fallout 76's Expansion made me Rethink Starfield
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 июн 2024
- Fallout 76 got a new expansion called Skyline Valley and of all the Fallout 76 updates, this one actually added a new area to the main world map of Fallout 76. And I love Starfield, but playing through a new Bethesda open world for the first time since 2018 made me remember that exploring content like this is one of the best parts of Fallout and Skyrim that Starfield was largely missing. Should you care that I thought that? Not at all, but hopefully I made you giggle somewhere in that gameplay laden yap fest.

"Exploring in a game is fun because you are walking through someone else's art project."
Man, what a great way to put it. It's exactly why I loved playing the new Elden Ring DLC so much. The best part, by far, was the sheer joy of exploring each nook and cranny and being taken through countless gorgeous views that, if you took any frame, wouldn't be any less than a painting.

Regarding TES6. You could still implement random generation in a fun way in that if it does take place in Hammerfall you could have an area of the Alikr desert where the sands shift so that every time you enter the area something new would emerge.

The reason they're bullet sponges is because you don't have a build. You're using weapons from commando, rifleman, and heavy gunner when you NEED to pick on to spec perks into.
Yeah, Heavy Gun build with Holy Fire makes everything that isn't a boss laughably easy.
Brain smooth
bullet sponges are not fun to fight against
True, people complain about not doing enough damage when they use rifleman and archer instead if leveling cards and specializing
Yea this guy is a whining noob
As soon as you get into mutations and working towards a build the game is a crazy fun
It walks a fine line between "fun" and "tediously easy," to be fair, and it doesn't always get the balance right.
BUT... It's fun helping out the newer players in events and making friends, so that's nice.
It's fun for about a week until everything in the game becomes a cakewalk.
Ya can use non meta weapons too, you know? I either run a pump action shotgun or a gauss shotgun depending if I want to play or just run trough an area. I recommend doing the same and getting a fun-gun@@justanother240
It’s just way too repetitive

this is basically what i thought when playing through fallout 4, despite the fairly weak main story its gameplay is amazing and there are tons of small places to explore, i do think bethesda still has the capacity to make a great game but something went really wrong with starfield considering it had to be delayed by 2 years
I played fallout 76 a lot a year ago, but the last three weeks ive been getting back into it

its not even a dlc its a free map expansion

also I'm fairly sure every Bethesda DLC apart from horse armour was better than Starfield
A free DLC btw..
DLC's have always been much better then the base game. I can name like 5 off the top of my head

I think you're confusing map with "game." None of the Bethesda games are that good, and main story was never that good either. What made those older games great was environmental story telling. The old elder scrolls and fallout games felt more like a sandbox than a typical open world RPG. It's unfortunate because Bethesda is so good making those type of games but it feels like they had a level of success that they didn't expect and now they don't even know why people started playing there games or what made them good.
I apreciate the dedication to the chunk bit.

I've been playing daily for 2 months after about 4 years of thinking I would never play it again. Loving the world, the quests, the player camps, and everything. Currently have 4 rare Fastchnat Masks and hoping for one more before the event is over. And yes, Fallout 1st is worth it.
The dedication for the chicken chunk this man is a legend
From my POV, Bethesda games have always been basically made of two parts - handcrafted content, and procedural generation. You proceduraly generate a continent and then you handcraft on top of it. So that hasn't actually changed. But...
Starfield still has a ton of that handcrafted content, they say more than any of their previous games even and I kind of believe them (and what is there is excellent!), but it made the procedural bits in between it so much ... bigger that they kind of steal focus sometimes. For me that can often still work, because I'm absolutely the kind of person who likes to just pick a spot, walk in a direction, and go 'damn that's a hell of a sunset' to kind of chill out between story beats. It's when the two things mesh more uncomfortably that it starts to drag for me personally - when I just want to wander around for the sake of it or find a spot for an outpost, it's great, when I land and then I have to sprint for like two miles to get to the Thing I'm Trying To Do it's a lot less great.
I know I'll go back to it. I love it, too, it has some of my favorite *bits* of any BGS game to date, but it does need ... something.
It doesn't help that the gunplay feels fucking atrocious.
I disagree that the generated content "steal the focus _sometimes",_ it does it _all the time_ in Starfield. It's to the point where the generated filler stuff feels like it's the main game, and the story stuff is bolted on to the side of it.
@@Cimlite And that's not even including the issues of the story.
I’ve played through starfield twice now with varying different play styles, and I think I’d like to add to this. Now when starfield is handcrafted it is really good, and you can get those really interesting ambient stories being told, but because of the large scale procedural generation that game has it tends to drown out the handcrafted. Like I randomly got a misc mission to go to this one eclipse bar, and it was a full fledge handcrafted dungeon with entire stories, puzzles, and interesting ways to get through it. It was honestly one of the most fun times I had doing a non mission, and the fact it’s just there is amazing.
Now for my first play through I never once touched this bar, nor many other unique areas in the game, and I did a lot of exploration to find these places. Sadly the game functionality punishes you for trying to just explore, or at least explore like you would normally do in a Bethesda game. That pick a spot, pick a direction, and go style gameplay doesn’t really work in starfield despite the fact that it should, and kind of was marketed as so. Now on my second play through I functionally never explored planets and places that weren’t directly shown to me. The closest I got to actual exploration was seeing interesting POIs on maps as I was going from place to place for missions, and deciding to go there. Because of this lack of random exploration I ran into so many quests and unique areas just because I was around the scripted events that gave you said missions. Somehow this game, which I dearly love mind you, has made it so that random exploration doesn’t give you rewards of exploration while not exploring does.
@@Cimlite nah. If you choose a questline to follow, you can completely ignore all the procedural generation.
I still prefer Fallout 76 than Starfield. 9k hours in Fallout 76 while I couldn't get above 50 hours in Starfield.

Can you do a video re-visiting all of the old shooters that you played a while back? like pavlov, contractors, ect.
