    Another FANTASIC episode. Do you feel the unusual size and shape of the venom gland is an evolutionary response to the Corals snakes small size or is this a prey response?

    • @SnakeIDTV
      @SnakeIDTV  2 года назад +1

      These are actually not that small, getting upwards of 2 meters, they are just thin relative to their length, but I would assume the venom gland helps them quickly overpower their prey which probably also includes other venomous snakes. There is another snake from this genus (Calliophis intestinalis) that is small but also has a long venom gland, but it’s venom is not thought to be anywhere near as toxic

    Thought Coral snakes are only red, yellow, and black

    • @SnakeIDTV
      @SnakeIDTV  2 года назад +1

      There are several grouping of snakes that are collectively referred to as Coral snakes. These are from the Genus Calliophis, and ‘Old World’ coral snake grouping. If you search ‘Calliophis species’ you’ll see lots of great pics of corals with dramatically different markings than those from North America for example. Very interesting group of snakes!

    • @BeliAndjeoSrb
      @BeliAndjeoSrb Год назад

      Extremely venomous. Blu Coral snake kill King Kobras (King Kobras are immune at almost all venomous snakes but not from blue coral snake) . And you ask if they are venomous? 😂
      It has cytotoxin venom which instantly paralize prey
