CUTTING THE BULKHEAD DOWN IN MY Land Rover DEFENDER 90!

- Finally I am upgrading the interior on my land rover defender 90 TD5. In this video I battle with the bulkhead to reduce it down making it much better inside my land rover defender. The bulkhead separates the from and back of the Land Rover defender and is a nice upgrade to reduce it giving more room for the front seats to move.

"definitely, probably not the right way to do it..." Glad I'm so like you!
😂😂👌🏻
Cracking job Doc, very brave!
Thanks Arch!
A sheet metal nibbler is the proper tool for that job. They are pretty cheap, especially the air operated ones. Perfect for aluminimum👍 And an air compressor is a must have for any garage👍
Thanks Burger - never seen a nibbler before will take a look. Also yes once I get my garage set up definitely keen for a air compressor 👌🏻
Great job as always Doc.
Thanks Peter 🙏🏼
I wanna do this myself, But i havn't got the balls. Well done fella...
Give it a go! It’s not too bad as you know that it will all be covered up by the trim at the end even if you make a mess of the edge!
Brave man… nice job!👍
Thanks Mike!
Great video again!
Thanks Abi really appreciate the support 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Fair play done that kit my self not easy to do it on your own 👏. Loads better than the full removal keeps things in the back but the benefits for leg room is amazing.
Thanks mate- I watched your video before doing mine!!
@@thedoctorsgarage lol thanks but my videos are amateur hour compared to yours. I used silent coat then carpet tiles on bulk head the difference was incredible. Bit today I have been mostly driving around in limp mode no joke 😅
@@milliondollarwhippet8515 nightmare what’s wrong with it?!
@@thedoctorsgarage Not quite sure, goes on and off so see if it's on in the morning might have to go and get it plugged in
@@milliondollarwhippet8515 Hmm strange - my only advice would be don’t cut the fuel pump out (like I did) until you’ve tried everything else!
4:14 - "Definitely, probably, not the right way to do it"... The way i narrate most of my own Defender jobs!
😂😂👌🏻
Why not use a black Sharpie pen to mark along the bulkhead where the curved piece sits as a guide? You may cut into the bar accidentally the way you’ve done it. You can cut the straight lines with a fine cutting disc and cut the curves with a jigsaw
It’s a good idea - sounds like a better way to do it!
Good job 👍
Thanks. appreciate it 👌🏻
That looks a lot smarter. I have been carpeting inside the back of my 110 today. I'm looking forward to an evening in front of the fire peeling Evo Stik off my fingertips.
Best achieved with some decent beer. 👍
@@Jason-cl8hk Hot chocolate more like! It was like carpeting the inside of a freezer today..
😂 thanks Tim- yes happy with how it’s turned out - think I’ll Be carpeting over the Lot at some point but makes a really difference to connecting the front and rear
Be really careful with a grinder, you'll find the sparks burn the interior very easily and also melt into the glass
Thanks Matthew - didn’t know this - will check the windows!
Brave move doing surgery on the bulkhead. I had a specialist remove the bulkhead and fit a roll cage which for me gives a greater sense of security. What do you not like about the seats, apart from the logo? Cheers.
Thanks Mike appreciate it. I would love some
Tan leather seats ideally- think the keswick green and tan go together really well. Have been looking at Lucari stuff recently
Hi Doc,
Great work as usual buddy, she’s coming together nicely :))
If you need any inspiration on drawer systems or security I’ll send over a description of what I did and some video’s if it helps, it’s a small community and we can all help each other out, I’ll be following your lead to replace my bolts with stainless steel bolts and nylon washers in the new year :))
Keep up the great work Doc!
Kind regards
Tony
👌🏻👌🏻
Just starting my bulkhead reduction, wish me luck
How did it go mate?
I know this is an old post but....
Obviously protecting your seats etc from red hot metal pieces is important when grinding , more importantly cover you seat belts if they get dozens of tiny holes burnt in , probably not going to save you in a crash. Just saying.....
It’s a fair comment- I wish I had covered things up a bit after reading more abut the damage the grinding make!
did you need a rivet gun?
Can you show how much difference it made to the seat adjustment please?
Yes- will probbely do this over on my Instagram @The_Doctors_garage
I haven’t got insta could you please do a short showing it?
@@2702simmo great idea- will do
I like the look of this Doc
From a driving and practical point of view does it make any difference to sitting position leg room etc?
I’m 6’3 and want more leg room
Hi Simmo
Just seen this- yes it does make a difference - but I think raised rails would be the ultimate addition with the bulkhead cut down
@@thedoctorsgarage funny enough I added RX8 seats and they go back enough on raised rails to negate the need to cut the bulkhead 👍
Your using a wood jigsaw blade, metal blades the teeth are closer together.
Oh… you could well be right- No wonder it wasn’t that easy! Thanks for the tip 👌🏻
Has the seating position improved with this mod? I’m 6’3” and always feel the driving position is cramped
It has but I would also recommend getting raised seats rails so your seat can slide further back with the cut down bulkhead. I haven’t done that yet but just being able to recline a lot further makes it feel much more spacious
Would you swop your seats ? I like those seats. What are you looking for ?
It’s the Land Rover print I’m
Not a big fan of- I like the shape and comfort- I think I would be looking at something a bit more sports focussed - a lucari seat would be perfect - tan leather
@@thedoctorsgarage a ok. I have OEM at the moment but if you do get rid of your ones please get in touch. Ps I just put the BMW m57 into mine. I would consider it if I was you. You will never need another car again
@@InclusiveEducators amazing! Did you do that yourself or did you have it fitted? I’ll keep you in mind for when I decide to switch the seats out 👌🏻
@@thedoctorsgarage I had it fitted. It’s an extremely hard tedious job. Thanks 👍🏻
