- Northern Irish chef Clare Smyth is the first British female to be awarded three Michelin stars.
Her debut fine dining restaurant, Core, opened in 2017. It has an emphasis on sustainable food, sourced from farmers and producers in the UK.
The award-winning chef catered for the private wedding reception for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex back in 2018.
She told the BBC that getting three Michelin stars was "like winning the World Cup".

She is actually a Gordon Ramsay student and was head-chef of his iconic restaurant in Chelsea for a long time. That already says a lot about your abilities, so three Michelin stars just seals the deal
Clares skill set stretches back way way before she ever went to Ramsays. I worked with her nearly 20 years ago when she was working in Cornwall. She was exceptional even back then, no wonder or surprise she's reached the heights she has. She mentions crisps but I actually laughed when I found out she bought super noodles from the local shop that my mum happened to work in and she was told specifically not to tell me. 🤣🤣🤣
She should be enormously proud, I like her no nonsense, unpretentious appreciation of food.

@Patrick Swan The titel of the video says it all: "first female British chef...". Whatever the reason that no other woman was awarded three stars before her, to be the first is newsworthy imho. When the first Brit will land on the moon and the BBC is reporting it, would you also argue: "What has nationality to do with it, the Americans already landed there." ?

There are still systemic disadvantages to having certain characteristics.
In an industry heavily dominated by men, it is noteworthy as she had an extra challenge to get there.
It is like trying to argue, there is no racism in the UK. Of course there is, but because it doesn't directly affect you, you may not notice it.

@Patrick Swan I disagree. When an underrepresented group gets their first member included in establishment circles, it's newsworthy to point that fact out. I give you an example: I'm from Germany and when Angela Merkel was elected to be the first female chancellor of Germany, I found not only the idea itself strange ("What, a woman?!"), but it also felt strange to use the female version of her official title ("Bundeskanzlerin", instead of the male "Bundeskanzler"), because nobody did that before ("Is that even a correct word in German?!"). Now it's completly normal, not only for me, but especially for young girls who can dream to become "Bundeskanzlerin" one day. This female chef has not only won an award for her talent and hard work (as every male winner before her), but also set an example that it is now possible to break through gender barriers. Good news for the whole society that should be reported!

@@scooby1647 it's not as if you would eat there every day. Its £145 for a 7 course tasting menu, so for a special occasion it's not bad considering the quality and experience. It's not like going to harvester.
