Needed a cheap guitar for open mics, travel etc... went for the cheapest Takamine (GD11MCE-NS) and was real impressed by the overall quality and playability. Great pickup too.

Bought my first guitar from a guitar teacher. 1994 Yamaha FG 401 dreadnought for £60. Spent the same with Luthier (Flame guitars, Surrey) and transformed it. It's plays easy and sounds amazing.

⚓️ Thanks Andy 🌈 guitar size!!!! Don’t go dreadnought!!! Only people over 5’ 9” or 175cm can fit around a full body as a beginner… take a hint from Taylor Swift… go small to begin with… ⚓️ Yamaha FS 800… or like. When shopping try both sizes 🥸 Then SETUP… when making the $$$ purchase have the guitar setup. String action and playability ⚓️

Yamaha is always a good answer, FG800 series for entry level, LL16 for a serious guitar at a great price. If you want to go for super-premium check out recent reviews of Hsienmos by JP Cormier and Shawn Brock (serious pros).

I have several different guitars and the one I like more is the one of the cheapest 🤣. The one I like is the one “calling me”. Is the guitar I setup all alone without help…

What gauge of string would you recommend for a beginner on acoustic?

G'day, generally an acoustic, will come with a string guage that is recommended by the manufacturer.
A shorter scale guitar will tend to have thicker strings, because it needs thicker strings to get the right tension to get it in tune.
From memory, the Taylor GS Mini has 13-56s, whereas my Art & Lutherie dreadnought came with 12-53s.
If you were to put thinner guage strings on a shorter scale guitar, the strings might feel a little looser. (Which some people prefer & potentially thinner guage strings may be easier to play).
With my guitar, the manufacturer says that it's OK to go up or down one string guage, but you may need to adjust the truss rod due to the different tension on the neck.
Be mindful that acoustic guitars aren't as solid as electric guitars. If in doubt, following the manufacturer's recommendations
