Alright since everyone’s giving their opinions I’ll throw mine into the ring. Yes, generally speaking it’s very rude to just honk for someone to come out to the car. Regardless of gender, that’s not how I’d pick up my date or want to be picked up (if we’re just hanging out casually, sure whatever. But for a date? No way.) and if it were my child or grandchild getting honked at that way… I might respond the same way Emily did. But, Rory and Dean did agree that that was how he was going to pick her up. Rory didn’t have a problem with it and Dean was following through with the agreement. So I also get why Rory was frustrated with Emily. It wasn’t like Dean was just straight up being rude. He was following the plan they laid out.
But Emily can't override the palms is their house. Dean didn't know Emily was there and Rory tried telling Emily about the plans. Emily acts like she is the mom instead of Lorelai.
@@lauriecarson6483 yes, I agree. I’m not trying to defend Emily’s actions, I’m just saying that I get where she is coming from. But I do still think she just should have let Rory go out to the car.
Because that’s their matriarch. They argued with her constantly, especially Lorelei, but that’s still her one and only mom she loves and actually tries to respect the rules of when they don’t cause too much pain. And Rory was a respectful-of-elders rule-follower in general for the most part.

Emily was ridiculous at blaming both the kids and just "expecting them" to know. She very clearly heard Rory explain that she and Dean made a plan and rather than open a discussion they're just supposed to already know. However you yourself feel about what "should" happen, it's an absolutely atrocious way to go about handling the situation.
I'm no Dean fan, but if you and your partner agree on something, it's ridiculous and just mean for someone else to change the plans without telling you and expect you to figure it out. I never understood why Rory didn't have the spine to uphold her end of the agreement with Dean here, and Lorelai didn't give her the support to do so. I love Emily, but her controlling personality makes me really mad. Every time I rewatch the show I identify with Lorelai 20% more than the last time lol
