I picked up poi 24 hours ago and oddly enough the two hardest tricks on this list are the ones that I took to first. They came so natural to me having a glow stick background the others although simpler are much harder for me. I will be coming back to this video for referencing LOL

I was surprised to realize that the 3 beat is more difficult. It explains why I had a tough time as a beginner. I'm teaching a 10 year old and wanted him to see which he would like to start with. Thanks Drex!

Real talk. This man right here CHANGED MY LIFE, on New Year’s Eve 2019! I SWORE I WAS GANNA GET BETTER! And thanks to drex, I did! I watched his first five tricks. X) but he’s not only inspired me to get better. But to also make video tutorials of my own 😊 but he is the FORST person I recommend to any body that reaches out to me asking how to “get as good as me”, we’ll never be “as good as drex” we’ll only be as good as ourselves 😂it’s about perfecting your own style!!! But this man right here will help you by FAR GET THERE!!!😊 I love you bro words will never describe the gratitude that I hold for you! THANK YOU

I like how he uses steps to get to each trick by using arms only at first or one arm and poi. I mastered the butterfly that way otherwise I would never have got that.

This is very cool and very beneficial. When I started spring poi I was mostly doing a 2 beat weaves.

For some reason, I have a really tough time trying to learn reels and flowers. But funny enough, I can 3 beat weave like it's nothing, and I actually accidentally figured out waistwraps when I was trying to learn 5 beat weaves

me too, both forward and reverse 3 beat, shoulder reels feel unnatural. I think my LED Poi are too light, as I also have socks that I find easier. I've taken the plunge and ordered some Podpoi to see if it helos

I think I would throw buzzsaw somewhere on there. It's a move that's relatively easy to pick up and while it doesn't act as a gateway to too many other tricks, it wows any crowd no matter what set it is part of. Sometimes when you're starting out it's nice to just enjoy that as something to fall back on when you're working and struggling through other tricks.

I picked up poi about 5 months ago. I would say that I am getting pretty good at most of those. Need to work on flowers, Windmills and waistwraps. You have helped me so omuch - keep putting out this amazing content.

Not going to lie, I was kinda expecting the 2-beat to be on that list. I know the inclusion of the 3 beat on your list basically covers it, but for me the 2 beat was the biggest roadblock I overcame when learning poi. I don't know how, but mastering this move just flicked something on in my head and allowed me to get a much better understanding of flow arts.

This was for me but with stalls and windmills. When I learned those something just clicked for me!

  • @sleepnomore6065

Edit: It's called Split poi flower opposite direction! HOLY CRAP! I didnt even have any basics down for YEARS besides 3 pt weave, butterfly and a simple windmill! I was just playing around in the mirror to a fast song! (Took 3.5 hours in the mirror lol)
I just taught myself something really cool that prob has a name! Can u help?? I think it's like a anti clockwise pendulum with stalls and snapping lateral arm "extensions". It looks and feels cool as hell and must be done VERY FAST with very little cord danging so it snaps straight when doing fast stalls

Best tip: Use SOCK POI and do this ONLY in a mirror for the complicated multi directional ones (or watch your shadow outdoors)! Either that or pack an ice pack and cross your fingers!

You also dont show yourself starting the swing? I thing you should go more in depth or at least "pull back the curtain"

As I explain at the end of the video, tutorials of all these tricks are linked to in the description, as well as a playlist teaching them in order. Teaching each of them in this video would have made it more than an hour long.
