    I'm coming back to this video after a year learning the forward five-beat to learn the reverse five-beat. Thank you!

    I love how polished your videos are becoming! I recently went to my first music festival and finally got to do poi as part of a community, and I realized that you've taught me a whole lot. Thanks for being such a valuable resource!

    Great video, my brain hurt when the reverse 5 beat was explained but I thought the explanation was great. I have been trying to teach my 7 year old daughter to spin poi and she naturally does everything in reverse for some reason. I struggle with all the reverse stuff but maybe one day I will get it.

    Cool tutorial! You did a great job breaking this down. I'm glad you broke down the reverse 5-beat as well. There weren't really any good tutorials on that one, and it was much more difficult of a concept for me to understand when I was learning it.

    The "don't use poi" use something solid to learn it tip is the best one here.

    what about a BTB 5 beat forward wave? there's not many tutorials about it on the webz :)

    • @DrexFactor
      @DrexFactor  6 лет назад

      Oh dear lord...there's a reason for that. I'll put it in the queue but for the record I avoid doing BTB videos if I can help it. My arms are short and not very flexible, so most BTB tricks are pretty uncomfortable for me.

    So I’m subscribed to your channel, but it won’t let me turn the notification bell on? Says something about content for children?

  • @dakurtman

    My question is during a performance to the average audience member, the 3 beat weave and 5 beat weave will look pretty much the same, so what does the 5B weave accomplish during a performance that the 3B weave does not?

      I guess I should have waited until the end of the video to leave a comment haha

      For the most part the audience can't tell the difference but it does offer you the closest thing that poi has to suspensions. Suspensions in dance are when you freeze in a given pose or shape for a moment. You can't do this in poi because the poi have to keep moving in order to maintain their shape. 5 beat weaves allow you to slow down during a weave and achieve something closer to a suspension purely by virtue of the fact that they take about a second longer to perform. There are definitely people who work toward doing 7 and 9 beat weaves, but they look really ugly and mainly just exist for bragging rights.

      @@DrexFactor The poi spinners notice the extra weaves and I think the 5,7 and 9 weaves look really cool.

    Wait, isn't that 4-beat, though??

    • @DrexFactor
      @DrexFactor  6 лет назад +1

      The training methods I'm doing start off as 4-beats. Once you've done the extra twist on each side of your body, you chain them together and get a 5-beat weave out of it.
