Randy, love the channel, just curious where you got the information on GM trucks. I’ve driven GM trucks all my life putting a lots of miles on them due to work, I have never heard or experienced the issue that you mentioned.
You might want to Google it. You're lucky. I've personally had it happen to me, which caused me to research the issue.
Thanks for the info, unfortunately you and I both know you can’t believe everything you read on the internet. But I hate that you personally experienced the issue. I currently own a 2020 and a 2023 Silverado both ltz 5.3 trucks. I will definitely do some research, if it turns out this is a huge issue, I may look into switching brands. Love your channel keep up the great content.
This isn't just believing things I have heard. The forums are loaded with this issue, so is RUclips where you can literally watch the issue.
cylinder deactivation problems are a well known issue that have a high failure rate. Google "gm cylinder deactivation problems" the problem is bad enough that the aftermarket makes kits to deactivate it. I have watched several youtube channels speaking about the problem
It's a coin toss. All the V8 trucks have AFM, which has a tendency to break one of the lifters and valves rear right on engine, and destroys the cam, which is a catastrophic engine loss. They started to phase it in around 2007, and they still have it today in the 5.3 and 6.2 gas engines. The diesel doesn't use that system, because it already gives you better gas mileage. I'm also afraid of this new turbo 4 in the trucks. I see a problem ahead. I'll keep my '09 4.8 Silverado that does NOT have AFM. If you have AFM, get the delete kit...$4000.

30:30 Part of the problem (possibly a very large part) would be that GM is having a lot of their cars built in China and, I think that Buick was one marque that has some of it's cars built there. That could be one

I am always confused by the Ford dinging. When you were checking out the F150, the first time you opened the drivers door, it made ine noise, then the second time, it made a different noise!

In all fairness, you are looking at a vehicle at a dealer auction, with no idea how roughly it was treated by it's previous owner. I know GM, like all automakers, has issues, so we can't 100% blame everything on build quality. I once did estimates for Avis/Budget which went to auction with the cars. The abuses I saw to some of these vehicles was beyond belief! Some people are just hard on a vehicle.

Randy, the HD (2500/3500) versions of the Chevy/GMC pick up trucks have a 6.0L non DOD/AFM gas engines. They have hydroboost brakes (no vacuum brake booster, runs off p/s pump) for HD towing. Great engine if you don't want 5.3L of 6.2L.

Ambient air temperature sensor on the Ram its under the driverside mirror turns on check engine light and makes the exterior temp read wrong.

There really isn’t anything like that GM quality. I’m a GM guy myself but wow that was at best awful. Everything was broken, and it didn’t run right either. That’s a true money pit there. 😮
GM should have went bankrupt and shut down in 2008.
Also let’s not forget a voluntary repossession is still a thing, that encore gx is a Chevy trailblazer

I used to be a fan of used car auction in the US long time ago when the US known to be one of the quality car producer. I have brought over than 10 used car and both US and foriegn made and have my friends repair them at reasonable price using junk yard parts! During these days, all used USA manufactured car that I belived assembled in China with much low quality parts than the U.S. A. standard are not financially worth repairing since most of them are financially drained and very hard to find some compients mechanic and body man to to repar these car correctly.
That hemi will quit ticking when it blows up!
If you HAVE to buy a beetle...get one with the 2.5 I-5 engine. The Turbo engines are quick, but super unreliable. My son had a '12 with the 1.8L and the check engine light was always on for something! VW got sued due to failures of the hydraulic tensioner for the timing chain. Their agreed settlement was pathetic.
That Buick Cascada was sold in the UK as a Vauxhall Cascada. They were known by the trade rather unaffectionately as the Vauxhall Cassandra lol
Maybe I was super unlucky, but I bought a Cascada with 4k mikes on it, which was a bit suspicious someone already traded it in before first oil change. About 5 years ago is when I had mine. Parts of the interior would fall off and crack apart when hitting bumps like a toy car. The top always rattled like a snake too bc GM uses *plastic* rollers for the convertible top system that folds into the trunk. The dealer told me the plastic deforms after a few uses. Had mine replaced and the loud rattles would come back after a few top open and close cycles. My outside temp sensor never left room temp, traffic alert beeped with no traffic, convertible top would throw errors sometimes. Many more issues such as brakes warping, engine evap purge valve, bubbles and cracks in the leather, etc. Had a loaner apex once a month for the year and a half I owned it. Dealer was not pleasant at first, but they became much better as we sorted through problem(s). Prettiest car I've owned by far, though. It was heartbreaking to break with the car, but mine was truly a hooptie. Traded in at 49k miles, before it lost any *more* value. Beautiful, but amazingly low quality.
The Buick convertible is just an european Opel Astra convertible. In Europe it's called Opel Cascada, I think.
The only GM engine i would won would be a Buick 231 3800 series I II III. The last good engine was discontinued on August 18 2008.

I bought a 2020 Escape SEL and the previous owner had the struts replaced in early 2022. The vehicle was not in an accident. There was a recall on struts. Maybe?

26:05 they started putting those on the silverados in 2019, it is factory
GM has "AFM" (Active Fuel Management). Chrysler/Dodge has "DOD" (Displacement on Demand). Similar systems, different names for different companies.

Well, ford has a cam phaser failure and when they fail, they destroy the engine woth no chance of economically repairing it!! I recommend doing the DOD/AFM delete and have the best platform on the automotive platform!! Also anything with a manual amd HD does not have the dod/afm installed in it!
Seems like you're not aware of the Hemi camshaft failures. Very similar to the GM issues and seems to be even more common, depending on the year.

12:34 I bought a car and it was not that old with new struts. When I replaced those I found out they put on the wrong struts to lower the car. It sits higher now, but has the correct struts.
The black VW Bug would look good with black wheels and darker windows.

The reason why the seat is like that is probably because some really tall guy was in there, I have a 2002 honda accord ex coupe and I have to put the seat all the way back because im over 6ft tall. I also happen to have some long arms so i tend to recline a lot.

Dodge started MDS 2006 GM soon after now Ford ! They all have issues but a lot less with maintenance done ! Almost 200k on mine alls good !

My Yukon has 247,000 miles an runs just as good as the day it was bought. You know why the seats are way back. They got real long arms. Zoo keeps letting them go.

I have been a GM guy since birth 😂 but my other most owned and loved brand? VW. I still have one but it’s broken 😂one day I’ll fix that little CC. I started with a bunch of Passats, one was even a 5 speed. Had two VR6’s, loved them. My love began to wane on the inherited ownership of a 1.8 turbo Beetle. Auto trans finally went into limp mode, I had had enough and it got sold. Can’t say the next car went any better- she wanted a PT Cruiser 😂 bad vehicle choices were her forte 😂😂
