I think this disqualification in Dubai is responsible for that. He realised that his behaviour on the court wasn't ok. And in a first time, he didn't changed but had the mental charge that if he would get too angry, something similar as in Dubai would happen again. So he wasn't playing really well bc he was struggling against himself. Now , we feel like, he accepted that he should change and this deserves him.

I’m happy for Rublev!!! I wanted Fritz to win, but I like both players so I’m happy with the outcome. I mean, yeah, Rublev has been facing a couple defeats in the past tournaments, but never in the first round (really important), and there was that disqualification which I’m sure rattled him, but if I was him, thinking big picture, I would be seeing good things. He wins a title in Hong Kong, goes to the quarters in the first major in Australia, gets to the quarters in Rotterdam and Qatar, the semis in Dubai, and now the finals of a Masters 1000 here in Madrid. I mean, I would say that’s a good first quarter of the season, even better if he wins here, although it honestly isn’t necessary from a truly big picture standpoint even though, as a player in college myself, I completely recognize how important every win is and how it sucks to lose. But again, big picture😉

i never would have thought a few years ago that clay would end up being rublev's best surface. having the power to hit through the clay really helps (it's nearly impossible for a defensive player to win on clay in this era, simply too physically demanding) and the conditions in madrid make it one of the best courts for serving in the world. it has elevated his first serve, which is already close to top tier, to the top. another very solid win for him against fritz, i see him almost definitely picking up his second masters 1000 title on sunday.
i still don't think he's a contender for slams, but i would be very shocked if he doesn't end up making his first semifinal in either paris or london

Rublev plays like a serial killer in this tournament. His ball striking is absolutely insane 🤯

There was no angle on Taylor’s strokes. He was just ball-feeding.

😊 Veramente magnifico nel servizio e nell' infilare la pallina negli angoli e nel fondo campo. Super 💪👍 Spero lo vinca tu il Masters 1000 di Madrid 😊
