Colorful Critters of All Shapes and Sizes on Unnamed Seamount D | Nautilus Live

- Some 150 miles west of Kaua’i, the E/V Nautilus team were lucky enough to spot some of the deep sea’s most interesting (and adorable) creatures. Take a peek into our dive along Unnamed Seamount D near the Chautauqua Seamounts and you’ll see a dumbo octopus, deep sea lizardfish, brightly colored corals, and bioluminescent comb jellies. From pink to purple to yellow to blue, the abundance of colors found at the bottom of this seamount reminds us of how much we still have to learn about these never-before-surveyed areas.
Our Luʻuaeahikiikekualonokai expedition explored the Chautauqua Seamount and surrounding unnamed seamount chain. Aside from sparse bathymetric and geophysical surveys, these underwater mountains were previously unsurveyed by ROVs or high-resolution seafloor mapping. Identifying the benthic organisms along this seamount chain will provide important insight into identifying unique evolutionary strategies for critters that call this area home.
This expedition was funded by NOAA Ocean Exploration through the Ocean Exploration Cooperative Institute.
E/V Nautilus is exploring unknown regions of the ocean seeking out new discoveries in biology, geology, and archaeology. Join us 24/7 for live video from the seafloor and to ask questions of our explorers currently aboard Nautilus: www.nautiluslive.org.

I know you guys don't get the credit you deserve but thank you. You give us free observation of some of the most amazing things, cheers for letting us into your extremely unique world.
I mean the sperm whale alone was incredible
Ditto!
Never fails to make me happy when I hear the joy and amazement in your voices when you come across animals of any sort during your expeditions. 🥰 Science is awesome and curiosity is a lifelong gift.
Please, please keep producing these little gems. I love your long-form and livestream versions when I can afford the time, but these nuggets give me essential joy-nutrients when I can't afford the more long-term investments.
I dont envy the person making the highlight reels like this its gotta be hard to only pick a few! The dumbo was a easy one for sure but i can think of at least a dozen more cool things from that dive as well!! But dont be shy i dont think anyone would mind a couple more videos !!
4:00 slip snail
5:20 peanut worm (so cool!)
Thank you Nautilus.
The Disco light one is just crazy. I would never expect something like this in the Ocean
I think the ocean is arguably one of the most beautiful things about this planet, even in a mysterious way for the most part
Worm: "Don't be suspicious, don't be suspicious~"
Guys your 2021 playlist is on repeat on my TV 24/7 keep it up in 2022 you're doing amazing work!
Thank you, always 💛💛💛
Ohhhh wooooow yayyyyy.
Love from earth 🌍🌎🌏
Takodachi
Ah... A man of culture, I see.
Wow! I like seeing all these creatures. Some I never knew before. Thank you. 😊
Uneducated 👆not creatures 😑
My favorite channel! Always feel better after seeing these wonderful, beautiful animals and hearing your reactions!
These creatures and plants(I think they are part family), are beautiful!
Edit: Okay, they are animals. Cool. Some animals look like plants.
Those are corals which are animals.
Uneducated not creatures 😑

Thank you all for your extremely interesting, relaxing and beautiful videos 💜
WOW! I had never seen such magical creatures! How wonderful is our sea world! Thank you so much for showing it! Blessed! ♥
I have not been able to stop watching your channel since I discovered it earlier! What you all are doing is absolutely amazing and all of us air breathing land walkers thank you all so much for your dedication, and for bringing us into the ocean depths!
love your excitement
At 5:10 I SO wanted to see more of that light show👀. I have never seen one that looked like a strobing rainbow of colors🤯! I have seen a few with one or maybe two color lights, but nothing like that! *What is the name of that specific one, if you don't mind me asking?* 🤔
I wanna know too! I've never seen something like that before! Looks sooo cool!!
It's a Ctenophore, also called a Comb Jelly
Thank you for this and a happy New year to the hole crew
Another wonderful report, thank you again. I hope these beautiful critters survive our continuing destruction of the oceans.
Thank you very much for making and sharing this! Happy and healthy New Year 🥂🎆🖖
Bedazzled lol OVO
Thank you for sharing this I’ve never seen a ocean in real life this is really important to me
I would never see such beauty without your films!
These exploration videos just makes me sooo happy. 🥰🥰🥰
That piano is so soft and relaxing, reminds me of a good video game.
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up as a support
First one literally looks like a real life Takodachi
It's so nice thank you x
I was almost expecting a mirror ball to pop down when that jelly lit up. That was awesome.
At around 2:58 that looks so very Dr. Seussian! I wonder if he was inspired or somehow familiar with such creatures, or if it’s just coincidental/my observation about his idiosyncratic illustrations..
Anyhow wonderful as always, thank you EVN!! 🖤
Uneducated👆 not creatures 😑
@@matimus100 Uneducated? EVN’s own title for the video is “colorful CRITTERS.....” As humans we too are creatures, and supposedly all of humanity must say cephalopods etc. every time they refer to any species or you will get self-important on them?
Very Coooooool!!!
I love this channel its just a bunch of scientists being nerds and dorks
The worm at the end reminded me of a microbe called Lacrymaria and its weird seeing a macro animal like it!
Love this 😀 sounds like fun
Dumbos are among my favorite sea creatures!
Can I suggest "Martini" as the name for unnamed seamount D? Idk kinda just feels like it would be a Martini and not an unnamed seamount D
The peanut worm reminds me of a chameleon's tongue.
The pink one 3:00 looks like a truffala tree!! 😍
Divinal!
一言で言うと、可愛すぎる❣️
So awesome! The last creature though does not look like a peanut worm, more like a Bonelia if I may say 😊
correct me if I'm wrong!
Uneducated👆not creatures 🌏👫
so cuteeee 😭
Guess.. .. that.... Pokemon!! 😊
Te sound of the Direct: ohhhhh uhhhhahhhhj uiiiiii oooooooo jejejejej uuauuaaaaaaa
The ocean - or as I like to call it:
“inside-out world.”
Do the lights from the craft blind the creatures? I'd assume that living in pitch black and then having light shined on them would be harmful. I have no idea though!
Just searched this and found out
“Numerous research studies have found that the use of white lights at great depths can permanently blind creatures exposed to such illumination. For this reason, experts, academics and researchers take special care to avoid using bright white lights or flash photography at great depths.”
This could be wrong. But if it’s not, poor them :(
Cute! 😍🥰🐙
🇸🇰
👍👍👍 SUPER 👍👍👍
令一個世界ㄟ😳
anyone noticed the nail on 4:04 ? :D
I did! :D
I find it interesting that there is no pollution down there. What happens to all the garbage in the ocean? Does it just break apart into really tiny pieces at those depths, or does it go somewhere?
4'00" is a nail near the snail?
anyone knows if the light affects the animals in the bottom of the sea? like when you turn lights on and your eyes kind of hurt, does that happen to them?
3:00 sey ne cok acayip
I wanna work as an oceanography now 😩
I wonder if you could play bingo for what you spot
How deep is this in meters ? Thank you
Thank you for showing us the wonders of the deep ocean. Please could you do a collaboration with zefrank. Please, 🙏
Uneducated 👆🦉👫
