Having had Lyme Disease decades ago - when it wasn’t yet very common in Wisconsin - I can assure you that it’s not fun. I was very lucky; my doctor was overjoyed that he could claim some “fame” as having a patient he could diagnose with Lyme. He got me on antibiotics right away. I seem to have no side effects. Thank you Boy Scouts, for putting out brochures on the tiny, tiny ticks and the characteristic “bullseye” rash!! You and the late Dr. Duane Erickson saved me much time!!
@Jesse Hanson yup, I had Lyme disease and no rash, the doctors wouldn't even test for it and I had it for months before I finally got medication, I'm pretty sure my joints are still messed up to this day and I'll probably get arthritis at some point
If only I actually got that, at least it has a treatment, sadly I have Alpha-gal, and boy is it hard to do things, avoiding common foods and foods made with those foods are hard to avoid, or even interacting with those foods because you can have an affect sometimes even through touch and smell. Decades ago, I had localized soreness and Lyme-indicated concentric circular yellow&purple skin discoloration twice. 21-day regimen of antibiotics administered within hours. No long term effects, but definitely upped my awareness such that I hold-off working in field until end of workday, strip clothes off inside-out and right into my work-clothes dedicated washer w/hotwater and a good amount of soap. Then, a high heat drier.
I got lyme, now every tick I find dies a horrific death. Burning, trapped in tins of tobacco and angostura bitters, encased in wax, smashed, drowned, shot out of a BB gun, frozen, applied with any household chemical. My face is still slightly fucked and I hate them.

@@Cryoutious Nonsense. There's nothing "important" about ticks. They're parasites that cause huge amounts of harm to human beings. Spare me the sophistry about the intricate web of ecology. Ticks, mosquitos, rattlesnakes, and anything else that causes suffering to conscious intelligent creatures for no good reason should be purged like the scourge that it is. If there _does_ end up being some environmental consequence, we'll adapt. Nature has already been fundamentally altered on our watch, so time to let go of the green purism. @@pocket83squared I agree with mosquitos and ticks being wiped out of the universe. However as for the rattlesnakes it's different because they only bite in self defence. They even give you the warning rattle sound if you try to approach them.

@person person , I think that’s a different thread. We compared the different ways we’ve killed ticks. I’ve popped them *after* wrapping them in cello tape. Burning them is more satisfying. On that thread (it’s here, somewhere), someone linked a video where a dude injected hydrogen peroxide into a big, bloated, blood-filled tick. That might have been as satisfying to watch as burning them.
@person person , Not when you’ve experienced finding a dozen or more nymph ticks on your body... unless you mean the peroxide dude.
Jobs that have anything to do with food is almost out of the question now, and at 18 thats really tough. My biggest reason for mentioning all that is hopefully get some attention about Alpha-gal, as it isnt as common and it can kill you if gone untreated like mine did, having almost fried my liver entirely because of it.

@@Cryoutious Nonsense. There's nothing "important" about ticks. They're parasites that cause huge amounts of harm to human beings. Spare me the sophistry about the intricate web of ecology.
