My big problem with EK (only made one EK ever since 2014) was that due to your spellcasting being brought up so slowly, most campaigns are done with you only ever having 2nd level spells, so your entire subclass was basically casting six to seven level 1-2 spells a day, which felt incredibly weak, because again they were very low level spells. It wasn't until I hit those 3rd level spells that I finally felt like I was having fun, but that's level 13. I will say the school restriction removal might help alleviate some of those growing pains.
EK playstyle is very specific, those spell slots are only meant for shield/absorb elements/silvery barbs and maybe the occasional magic missile or firebolt with booming or greemflame blade. If you try to play it likr a full wizard in armor it is sub par, played as a fighter with a little bit of defensive and ranged magic it is probably the most powerful fighter subclass (battlemaster can do more damage). If you want a full caster with heavy armor either mc fighter/wizard or play a cleric.

I always found War Magic was a very defining feature of the Eldritch Knight once booming blade was added, as it allows you to constantly be weaving cantrips amongst your attacks. Now with the change to allow it to synergize better with extra attack, eldritch knight damage is going to be great even just with casting cantrips like Booming Blade. And now with weapon mastery, you will have even more options on top of your spellcasting, cantrips, and attacks. I'm personally really excited to play an Eldritch Knight when the new books come out, it looks to be shaping up as a really fun playstyle.
Still think it should be renamed Arcane Knight since "Eldritch" is so tied to Warlock (I.e. Eldritch Blast), and the subclass has nothing to do with the Warlock class; heck, they get spells from the Wizard class.
It's a regular word. Eldritch literally just means something eerie and supernatural. It isn't specific to Warlock in any way. That'd be like saying there shouldn't be any kind of spells with the word "wind" in them because of the Fighter's Second Wind feature.
@@badwrongfun5541 Well... show an example of something on the Eldritch Knights' features that is "eerie". I just think that it should be renamed since its more of a subclass that blends Wizard and Fighter, and there should be another subclass for the Eldritch Knight (or a.k.a. @@andrewdowns3673 Eldritch Knight has been around from before the existence of Warlock and I don't think I even should need to point this out since it was already mentioned, but Eldritch is use for both Eerie AND Supernatural things and Magic is by definition a Supernatural factor in an otherwise medieval world and if you look at a dictionary any time soon you will realize the word is used for something Weird or Unnatural in a way that inspires fear and while Eldritch Knight in 5e couldn't learn the spell Fear until the changes, it could learn any spell in previous editions (Due to it being a Prestige Class that required you to have at least 1 level of Fighter and 5 levels of Wizard) and if you think a mundane looking warrior in armor suddenly throwing Fireballs, Lightning Bolts and materializing barriers of pure concussive force isn't strange, unnatural and intimidating you need to get checked out because that is by definition Eldritch, also by that same definition Eldritch Blast follows the same type of logic, a Warlock can be any person and to see an normal looking peasant suddenly throw a massive ray of green energy from his hands is strange, unnatural and intimidating because of how out of place that is.
I'd agree but only if "Eldritch Knight" became another melee/caster subclass for the Warlock. Because the subclass name "Eldritch Knight" is just too cool not to use.
@@Falx415 Nah. I'd keep it as a Fighter subclass with Warlock elements (ex. Access to Eldritch Invocations) and give the Pact of the Blade a new Invocation that let's them learn a few Battle Master Maneuvers (which SHOULD'VE been made a part of the main Fighter class).
These look great. With these changes, eldritch knight has quickly become one of, if not my favorite DnD subclass! A sword day, a red day! And It’s a kind of magic!
Not gonna lie, I pitched the same argument to my DM years ago and he completely agreed. The limitation we put on it was that it had to be a melee cantrip and it went off on the first hit. So, booming blade and green flame blade worked but not much else. For any other cantrip it was RAW. Absolutely looking forward to the change.
@@Akatoph There are reasons to cast a spell instead of an attack. The mending cantrip can function as a healing spell for robot companions. Shocking Grasp allows you to move without provoking opportunity attacks. Heck, you can even do things like cast minor illusions on something while in a fight. The strength of giving up an attack for a cantrip or a spell is not increased damage; What you get for giving up an attack to cast a cantrip or spell is a ton of flexibility and creativity for what you can do during combat.
On one hand, I love the changes. It opens up versatility you’re not guided to the same 10 spells everyone recommends. Being able to cast multiple spells in a turn is something I wish I can do as some spell casters and even half casters. On the other hand… I… might have not appreciated some spells like jump and warding wind if it wasn’t for an eldritch knight I ran one time. The limitations meant everyone who played eldritch knight typically picked the same spells, but they had unique 1-army niches that no-one else really had.
If an Eldritch knight is dual wielding a dagger with the nick property, not needing to spend a bonus action to attack with the off hand weapon, can he choose to forego the off-hand attack to cast a spell?
Could be interesting. I think the wording will be similar to Bladesinger's so something like "when you take the attack action, you can replace one of the attacks with a cantrip with a casting time of one action". Which would mean no. But we don't know yet. But also if you use a scimitar and have two-weapon fighting it doesn't really make a difference damage-wise either way.
Giving the Eldritch Knight the Tasha's Bladesingers Extra Attack is such a great change. I sincerely hope that they and the Arcane trickster become 1/2 casters. I mean Paladins and Rangers being able to cast at a higher level then Fighters and Thieves that make magic a big part of their schtick?
Would you give Paladin and Ranger all FOUR of Fighter's Extra Attacks to compensate or is the aim specifically to make Eldritch Knight superior to Paladin and Ranger in every way? A Fighter is still better at Martial stuff than a Ranger and Paladin, who trade some of that for spells. That is the entire point of Ranger and Paladin as classes. EK needed a boost, and it might still need one after this new edition launches, but it can't be equal to Ranger and Paladin magically without eclipsing those classes entirely since it's chasis without magic is far stronger than both. There's a give and take here.
We will be able to make an awesome Gish this year. Eldritch Knight 11 for extra attacks will spells like: shield, absorb elements, feather fall, and long strider. Then go Paladin 9 for Aura of Protection, Smite, Lay on Hands, and Aura of Vitality for good healing and defensive options. Fixing the Eldritch Knight extra attack and removing the spell restrictions will be awesome. I can't wait to try out a level 20 build in the next version of D&D!
I absolutely love the spoken of changes. Basically giving them bladesinger's extra attack. Really going back and forth between attacks and spells. I'm so excited to play it.
I see the alt cover of the PHB was shown in the plug at the end of the video to preorder the PHB, but I do not see instructions to order the alt cover of the phb.
Oh damn. The extra attack + cantrip is now given to the EK now instead of the bladesinger, so I wonder how the bladesinger will be different? My prediction is that since the EK now has extra attack + cantrip (and spells) Bladesingers will be given (what I've wanted for a long time now) a way to merge spells into weapon attacks.
@@mattsmrtnz If that is the case then would it be added later do you think? It would be really weird if a subclass was just straight up deleted or forgotten.
@@littlerainy3453you can still play bladesinger LOL just because a subclass has not been updated does not mean its been “deleted”. Bladesinger will probably stay the same since it needs no work. Its basically perfect as is. The eldritch knight on the other hand needed the work.
I think they'd need to be completely reworked anyway if they were added back at all. 5e Bladesinger kinda fundamentally didn't work as intended. If you played them on flavor, you're suicidally having a Wizard charge into melee combat they're ill prepared for and making very little impact as a melee combatant. If you play them like a regular Wizard, they're arguably the strongest subclass in 5e because they were a high AC wizard without having to dip into feats or multi-classing, but flavorwise you have a sword wizard who never uses their sword to fight.
Cantrip sliding into a full attack at the cost of 1 iterative is a good change that should have always been in there Trading two extra attacks for a level 1 spell? At the level you have 3 attacks I'm not trading 2 attacks for a 1st level spell, the class feature should have just upgraded from cantrip to cantrip or level 1 spell for 1 attack.
It said 1st or 2nd right? You can Hold Person, Attack. If you Crit with GWM (which on hold person is auto crit if you hit) that’s another attack. That’s potentially 2 Critical hits that turn and then set up for full round of paralyze hits if it fails save. That’s a lot of damage next turn.
@@Marionettetc we do not but I found it quite strange that it was mentioned almost immediately after cantrip replacing attacks. In theory, if the level restriction was part of War Magic and that level restriction was lifted at 18, that’s a huge win. War Magic (my hopes) Replace 1 Attack for Cantrip Replace 2 Attacks for 1st or 2nd level spell At 18 Replace 2 attacks for any leveled spell
@@sauromatae9728 Yeah, but with eldritch knight, when they take the attack action they can replace one attack with a cantrip. So depending on the wording, they can get another free cantrip smack.
My only question is that when a fighter reaches level 7, they have two attacks does that and war magic allows them to replace an attack with a catrip. Can they replace both attack and instead cast two cantrips or can they only do it once per turn
Eldritch Knight lacks one IMPORTANT feature. War Bond should give the ability to use linked weapons as a focus for spells just like in Warlock's Pact of the Blade.
Eldritch Knight is a nice adoptation D&D 3.0 and 3.5 for those who like playing a magic user while being fighter multii-classing as a fighter& wizard then going in to the prestege class Eldritch Knight. Little changes like this make some of prestege class more enjoyable low level with out needing to multi-class like in 3.0 and 3.5 . The same go for mythic theurge in 5E not needing to mult-class as a wizard and cleric then picking that prestege class. As it is nice have acces to some of class faetures with out needing to begin in mid to high level game . As most games i played they were low level and never get past lv10 so geting acces to most of the class tools is nice . As most games rarely ever go up to lv20 except for groups who like to player from lv1 to 20 still for having that kind of time .
3:33 this is interesting (and possibly insanely powerful) So Eldritch Knights can take one attack they would normally make during an attack action, and replace it with a cantrip. They can also take two attacks and replace them with a spell. Here is a very important question I look forward to getting and answer to: Is there a limit to it during one attack action. If I'm a Level 20 Eldritch Knight, can I forgo all 4 of my attacks, and replace them with 4 cantrips? If so, I can stack 4 booming blades in one turn. At Level 20, assuming I'm wielding a Greatsword with +5 Strength, that's: 4(5)+4(2d6)+4(3d8) Which equals an AVERAGE of 102 damage. On one turn. With just Cantrips. But if we assume whatever we hit willingly moves at least 5 feet after the fact, they'll take an additional 4(4d8) of thunder damage. That's: 4(5)+4(2d6)+4(3d8)+4(4d8) *AKA, 174 damage FROM ONE PERSON in one round. WITH JUST CANTRIPS.*
The only issue with EK is that you don't get access to 3rd lvl spells until 13lvl, many campaigns don't even go that far. Overall, the class concept is GREAT but the leveling is abysmally slow
War magic was always such a weirdly designed ability that ironically got worse as you levelled. Giving up all of your Attacks to cast a single Cantrip and make 1 attack as a bonus action means that you're giving up 1 attack at level 7, 2 attacks at level 11, and 3 attacks at level 20. And each of those attacks deals damage equal to dice + Stat, while a cantrip only deals the equivalent of dice without a stat modifier. So you're actively losing out on damage by using a Cantrip, as well as losing your bonus action, with the only real benefit, being the minor status ailments that some cantrips can inflict? But the new War Magic is so much better. Replacing only 1 attack means that you still get your full attack progression, and a a cantrip pretty easily outdamages a single fighter attack so you're getting an overall DPR boost. On top of that, this actually makes some normally non-combat-viable cantrips potentially really uniquely useful now with EK. For example Mold Earth is a great cantrip, but it is very much an out-of-combat utility. Sure you can use it to basically create free cover on the spot, but giving up your whole action to do something like that is kinda weak. But now you could do things like create cover for an ally and still get most of your attacks off. Not to mention that there's lots of potential combos like using Lightning Lure to pull someone in to get them into Melee Range, or using Mind Sliver to soften them up for a Topple Weapon Mastery. Hell, Blade Ward is suddenly viable now as an actually useful combat cantrip. And sure they don't get that many cantrips to work with, but lets be real with Fighters having extra feats and everyone now getting a feat at 1st level, I think almost every EK is taking Magic Initiate to learn a couple more Cantrips to add to their repertoire.
I played my first campaign last year and last month it ended, my character was an Eldritch knight, it was fun to play but seeing these changes coming so soon after I said goodbye to him makes me sad lol
Sounds great. Now, tell me there is an 'Arcane Smite' feat that lets me bonus action expend a spell slot to gain force damage on a melee attack. Make it less than a paladin's smite.
So you want Psionic Strike? That would dilute the identity of the EK, Paladin, AND the Psi Warrior all at once. I'm cool with Psi Warrior getting a psuedo Smite because they don't have spells and thus still feel unique, but just giving Paladin kit to the EK would just really make them feeel way too samey. I love EK but I think the way they incorporates its spellcasting into their attacks is more than enough and makes them feel distinct.
Not in the new PHB. Maybe they'll make Wildemount supplement for the new edition. But you can always ask your DM to let you play Echo Knight as since allegedly the new edition is compatible with old 5e material.
I've never seen anyone play an Eldritch Knight. I love the subclass but never see it played. It's my bane class because every time I've ever played it I only ever get to level 3 or 4 before the campaign ends or something goes wrong.
Well it makes all the sense to have INT if you are a mage, even if not a full caster... Though Eldritch Knights don't necessarily need it as their highest score
About that… you don’t NEED a good INT score for eldritch knight. You can pick spells that don’t require a spell save or spell attack Some examples include: Jump, booming blade, blade ward, blur, mirror image, warding wind, shield, magic missile, etc. Now, sure, it’s limiting. But you absolutely don’t need any INT to play an eldritch knight.
I'm confused; the action vs. bonus action thing seems like a nerf, not a buff. Admittedly I'm not used to playing fighters nor heavy use of bonus actions; can someone help me out as to how that's a buff?
Before, if you wanted to cast a spell or cantrip as an Eldritch Knight, you had to give up your entire action to do it, which sucks because at the higher levels a fighter is making 3-4 attacks per turn. This makes it so you only need to give up 1-2 of your weapon attacks to cast spells or cantrips, meaning you can actually fight more like a spellsword and less like a Fighter who occasionally cast a spell. It improves your action economy as an Eldritch Knight.
So now, instead of spending your action and a bonus action to cast a cantrip and then make one attack at level 6, you can cast a cantrip, attack once, and then use your bonus action to attack twice with two weapon fighting or use Second Wind or the new Tactical Shift feature.
I think it's meant to give more flexibility, so you're not committing both actions and bonus actions to war magic. Plus, since high-level fighters get four attacks per turn, one could potentially take a weapon attack, then potentially follow up with three cantrips (assuming it's not limited to once per turn), or maybe an attack, cantrip, then a spell like magic missile. Seems potentially really powerful, so curious how it will be balanced.
Under the 2014 rules, War Magic states, beginning at 7th level, when you use your action to cast a cantrip, you can make one weapon attack as a bonus action. As a fighter, when you normally take the attack action, you make two weapon attacks at level 7. Under this revision, you make one weapon attack and cast one cantrip under the same attack action which frees up the bonus action. Consider the following: let's say there is an enemy that is a good distance from where you are that you want to attack. You can do the following: As a bonus action, cast Misty Step to teleport 30ft. Then you take your normal movement which is usually 25-35ft. You then take the attack action to cast Lightning Lure to attack the enemy 15ft away. The enemy fails the strength saving throw and is dragged 10ft toward you which then allows you to finish the attack action with a weapon attack. The enemy takes 2d8 lightning damage plus the damage from the weapon attack.
No. The EK is currently limited to Wizard (Arcane spells) of the magic schools of invocation and abjuration. With this change he'll still be limited to only wizards arcane spells, but be able to use all 8 scholls (necromancy, abjuration, etc.). So if I understand what they said correctly, he will still not be able to take primal and divine spells, that would require him to have acces to the druid (primal) and cleric (divine) spell LIST, instead of spell SCHOOL
Why abandon the Portuguese translation? We are an active community, I personally have been playing for over 20 years and I can't understand, if the printed version is not possible, why not only make it available in the digital version? I hope that the new direction will bring back D&D to Brazil and all other countries that use the Portuguese language
I always found the Eldritch Knight to be lacking in magic. As a half caster, with most campaigns only going to level 10-12 multiclassing was a better option. It seems to me, that with the 2024 rules, multiclassing is hampered. I love the 1 - 2 level dip. With the requirement to go to level 3 for your subclass, and if you go 3 levels you have to go 4, the new rules force a less open channel for creativity. This was my OPINION, so the "OMG he said something negative about WotC" crowd can just relax.
Ahhh please tell me you can have a level 5 eldritch knight/monk/warock initiate build where one attack action and a bonus action gives you access to Eldritch Blast (2 beams), one attack, and two unarmed strikes
Is the new Eldritch Knight better than multiclassing a Fighter/Wizard because the old 5e Eldritch Knight definitely wasn't? After the 'changes' to the Ranger, one might be forgiven for being just a little cynical. Snipping the extra attack off the Gloom Stalker Dread Ambusher feature for instance. Telling us that it is brand new content...When large chunks are lifted straight out of the 2014 PHB...We have eyes and a brain!
Maybe if he spent less time and money on his hair style and more time and money on thinking about the actual synergies and play styles. Also, isn't chocolate and peanut butter just Nutella?
It's really disapointing with this limitation on Improved War Magic. The EK have so few spells slots, why put this limitation on an EIGHTEEN LEVEL FEATURE, WHY ONLY LEVEL 1 OR 2 SPELLS????? It's a feature so high level that is complete unviable to make multiclass abuse of this I provided feedback about this in every survey and I was completed ignored, I'm so sad about this subclasse that suffered with really bad design for ten years
Because being able to cast a leveled spell AND make 2 weapon attacks in the same action is incredibly powerful in terms of action economy. That's a lot more than the other half-casters get. On top of that, they have fewer spell slots because they are A. a half-caster subclass, and B. they are a Fighter. Hitting things is their main priority. Eldritch Knights should primarily be taking support/self-buffing spells over attack spells.
We don't have the full rules yet, but if the UA was any indication Eldritch Knights may be the only thing that's able to cast 2 leveled spells thanks to Action surge and the new rules. At 18th level, there's no 1st or 2nd level spells that are broken good like this, and it might even be an effective use of those slots. 3rd level however has fireball and that double cast is way too efficient. The Eldritch Knight could outpace some full casters without the leveled restriction. Which would be a fun reversal tbh, but also poor balance.
@@TerminalDevastationIt's level 18, the damage from two fireballs is nothing compared to what casters can do at that level and the EK only has 1 level 4 slot.
If I heard him right he said replace 1 attack for a cantrip so if I'm thinking right you can replace both of your attack with cantrips so 2 boomingblades a turn and pushing weapon mastery is a Hugh power boost
I was looking at Playtest 7 if there is a #8 with an update let me know. I feel like a harder gimped Sorcerer as an EK not able to swap spells unless I level up and only able to have 6 to 8 spells through an entire campaign due to DM's that are not confident in handling high levels or ego incompetent. On the chart, I've noticed that Cantrips are not listed separately from the Spells Prepared. So do I have to decide between a cantrip or spell when leveling? Sense due to DM's level restrictions I would only have 5 to 8 spells in total at the most and I can't swap spells unless I level up, that's a NO Go. Why is IMPROVED WAR MAGIC so limiting? Once again due to DM's level bias. I would never see this feature. Let alone 4th level spell slot. EK should have the same spell progression as any other spell caster getting their 4th spell level at level 7 and can only increase spell slots to the max of 4th level. So I will have a max of three slots for 4th level spell for the rest of the games I play. Why would the EK have to fiddle around with an arcane focus when they can already ritually weapon bond? Just make it so it is our arcane focus as well. Arcane Charge is just a pointless level 15 ability. Because when Fighter's Action Aurge they are already up in range of hitting their enemy. No Fighter Player would waste their Action Serge to gain movement of meekly 30ft over the damage and the chance to end a glorious intense fight with an enemy or boss. I have to say you dropped the ball on the EK even harder than the 2014 version. You took 2 steps forward and 7 back.

I love that you can do an attack and a spell for extra attack now. I hated that it needed to be 2 weapon attacks or just one spell on your turn
O my favorite subclass that was weak and bad in 5e, and definitely gets a power boost and makes it even better and makes sense... Yes please!
Trading your attacks for cantrips or spell (1° and 2° only level spells) is the opposite of power boost 😂
Unless they changed the booming blade cantrip 2 of them instead of normal attacks is a Hugh power boost
@@druxusthemage9806 unless they changed magic rule of one spell per turn, it's not a big power boost
@@Akatoph Booming Blade. You can do all of your attacks and then one of them does several extra d8 more.
Pick them then 😂
If an Eldritch knight is dual wielding a dagger with the nick property, not needing to spend a bonus action to attack with the off hand weapon, can he choose to forego the off-hand attack to cast a spell?
You still need a free hand to cast a spell. Dual welding daggers prevents that

Nick says the offhand attack is part of the initial attack action. It's basically free. The EK can swap out their "extra attacks" to cast spells.
@@scy22 that clears it up! Thanks!

All grown up
Giving the Eldritch Knight the Tasha's Bladesingers Extra Attack is such a great change.
There will be no bladesingers in the new rulebook. Wizard subclasses are going to be: Abjurer, Diviner, Evoker and Illusionist
Am I the only one struggling to keep up with all these videos appearing in different places :D

Cantrip sliding into a full attack at the cost of 1 iterative is a good change that should have always been in there
Trading two extra attacks for a level 1 spell? At the level you have 3 attacks I'm not trading 2 attacks for a 1st level spell, the class feature should have just upgraded from cantrip to cantrip or level 1 spell for 1 attack.
It said 1st or 2nd right? You can Hold Person, Attack. If you Crit with GWM (which on hold person is auto crit if you hit) that’s another attack. That’s potentially 2 Critical hits that turn and then set up for full round of paralyze hits if it fails save. That’s a lot of damage next turn.
@@thegamemattster
That's at level 18 though. Do we have info on whether or not improved war magic has been moved up in the class?
@@Marionettetc we do not but I found it quite strange that it was mentioned almost immediately after cantrip replacing attacks. In theory, if the level restriction was part of War Magic and that level restriction was lifted at 18, that’s a huge win.

Replace 2 Attacks for 1st or 2nd level spell

Replace 2 attacks for any leveled spell
How does it interact with haste? can they do 3 booming blades (Main attack, Action surge, Haste)? Making them just a paladin with at will smites?
Haste action can only be used on 1 simple attack tho
@@sauromatae9728 Yeah, but with eldritch knight, when they take the attack action they can replace one attack with a cantrip. So depending on the wording, they can get another free cantrip smack.
Are we going to be able to do a bundle with the collectors edition covers?
My only question is that when a fighter reaches level 7, they have two attacks does that and war magic allows them to replace an attack with a catrip. Can they replace both attack and instead cast two cantrips or can they only do it once per turn
Only one cantrip
What about the magic initiate? I'm an eldritch knight but want some druid spells to add. 🤔
Is this the exact same footage as the fighter video?
bladesinger not making the cut made me sad. But war magic buff lets go.
They didn't talk about Weapon Bond.
Was really hoping Weapong Bond would allow your Eldritch Knight to use Intelligence for attacks.
Doesn't true strike cover that?
3:33 this is interesting (and possibly insanely powerful)
So Eldritch Knights can take one attack they would normally make during an attack action, and replace it with a cantrip.
At Level 20, assuming I'm wielding a Greatsword with +5 Strength, that's:
4(5)+4(2d6)+4(3d8)
Which equals an AVERAGE of 102 damage. On one turn. With just Cantrips.
But if we assume whatever we hit willingly moves at least 5 feet after the fact, they'll take an additional 4(4d8) of thunder damage.
That's: 4(5)+4(2d6)+4(3d8)+4(4d8)
*AKA, 174 damage FROM ONE PERSON in one round. WITH JUST CANTRIPS.*
How War Magic will interate with Booming Blade?
At 7th lvl can I attack, extra attack booming blade?
love the change to war magic it was so frustrating with how it worked and felt counter intuitive, this feels way more natural
The only issue with EK is that you don't get access to 3rd lvl spells until 13lvl, many campaigns don't even go that far. Overall, the class concept is GREAT but the leveling is abysmally slow
does anyone know the name of the artist who made this wonderful artwork?
So they essentially gave the Eldritch Knight the bladesinger’s extra attack ability.
Where can I find the artist?
The opening art of this video is AMAZING!
Eldritch knight always felt like it was published before it was playtested
Does anyone know when they’re covering the warlock?
So at level 11 I can use hold person then do one attack? Neat
From what it sounds like yes.
No, you can do it at level 18
Does this mean EK can cast 2, leveled spells in a turn?
Schtick got one of my favourite words
Echo Knight? 👀
Are we still dependent on int score?
I would imagine so
Well it makes all the sense to have INT if you are a mage, even if not a full caster... Though Eldritch Knights don't necessarily need it as their highest score
Would be insane if it wasn't.
About that… you don’t NEED a good INT score for eldritch knight. You can pick spells that don’t require a spell save or spell attack
Some examples include: Jump, booming blade, blade ward, blur, mirror image, warding wind, shield, magic missile, etc.
Now, sure, it’s limiting. But you absolutely don’t need any INT to play an eldritch knight.
I don't see a reason why you wouldn't
Finally my eldritch knight I gonna be more awesome now
friggin took you long enough to make War Magic do what its supposed to.
So... School of Swords Bard can use weapon as Arcane Focus but Eldritch Knight cant??? Thats it? Fantastic!
Every time you hear the word "Schtick" drink
Thank you thank you for fixing that war magic. All I wanna do is use a boming blade with extra attack.
Warmage I want to see them bring that back
I'm confused; the action vs. bonus action thing seems like a nerf, not a buff.
@@TheChroNikler498 Oh, so I had it backwards. I thought the way it works now is the way it's going to work.
Finally my warrior can make two attacks and use sword burst
My eldritch knight only has the jump spell. I wanted him to be a dragoon like in final fantasy
Let me just make my red mage, I'd be happy.
Some melee, some damage, some heals.
I'll be good.
Im not big on dnd so can someone please explain if the removal of restrictions means that EKs can learn divine and primal spells?
@@feldi1234 Ahhhhh that makes a lot of sense, thank you

I always found the Eldritch Knight to be lacking in magic. As a half caster, with most campaigns only going to level 10-12 multiclassing was a better option. It seems to me, that with the 2024 rules, multiclassing is hampered. I love the 1 - 2 level dip. With the requirement to go to level 3 for your subclass, and if you go 3 levels you have to go 4, the new rules force a less open channel for creativity. This was my OPINION, so the "OMG he said something negative about WotC" crowd can just relax.

It's a feature so high level that is complete unviable to make multiclass abuse of this
I provided feedback about this in every survey and I was completed ignored, I'm so sad about this subclasse that suffered with really bad design for ten years
Because being able to cast a leveled spell AND make 2 weapon attacks in the same action is incredibly powerful in terms of action economy. That's a lot more than the other half-casters get.
On top of that, they have fewer spell slots because they are A. a half-caster subclass, and B. they are a Fighter. Hitting things is their main priority. Eldritch Knights should primarily be taking support/self-buffing spells over attack spells.
Hi I'm new. So how many spell slots does an eldritch knight get now at level 7?
Yeah, the ability to cast up to four spells in a turn is "so terrible"...
But you could still play a fighter/magic user
War Magic fix is meh. Should have just given the EK a full action + BA cantrip
