      You mean like Jacob and the MIB?. That's because the heart of the island is the source of a large amount of electromagnetic energy that is part of "life, death and rebirth". Jacob is positive electromagnetic energy with the powers of "life". He is able to heal people. This was explained by Isaac of Uluru in the episode S.OS. which suggests that others can channel that energy too: "there are places of great energy, spots on the earth like the one we are in now. Perhaps this energy is geological, magnetic or perhaps it's something else. When possible I harness this energy and give it to others". In contrast MIB is negative electromagnetic energy and his abilities are that of "death". Taking on the form of dead people. Scanning memories.

      My guess is that Smoke Monster perhaps showed Locke an image of the "heart of the island". We can assume that the smoke monster scanned Locke for his memories in the same way we saw it do with Mr Eko and other characters; perhaps Smokey scanned the memory of Richard Alpert visiting the young Locke when Locke took the test. Smoke Monster would have known then that Locke was a special candidate, because Richard tells us that the procedure for selecting the leader of the Others starts at a young age. Smoke monster would also have known after scanning him, that Locke was easily manipulated. So I guess that Smokey showed him some of the Islands secrets to reinforce this feeling of "special" in Lockes mind and to start the manipulation process. Just my thoughts.

    When actually was the dharma purge? If the show was set in 2004 and rousseau got to the island 16 years prior, that means she got there in 1988 when shes attacked by the others and has alex taken from her. This means the purge must have happened before then. BUT, Kelvin Inman, desmond's partner in the hatch, manages to get recruited and taken to the island after 1991 as he was in the military during the gulf war.... so is there a rational explanation for this or is it just a simple plot hole? I'm unsure about why this would be a question. It WAS the electromagnetic anomaly that helped her find it. Whether she knew or not isn't overly important. A better question would be HOW it worked, but even that doesn't really need explaining. She admitted to knowing about the island, to Desmond. That seems like enough to confirm any doubt. It implies that the techniques put in place to find the island were likely intentional. The anomaly may still have been an accident though.

    1) what is the ash from in the ash circles around the cabin/ around people that stop the monster?

      Really pleased to hear you are finding the videos useful and that they are enriching your rewatch of the show :)
      To answer your questions:
      1) I discuss the ash (and what it could be made of) towards the end of my video on the smoke monster: ruclips.net/video/I9BiZS6dvqM/видео.html
      This is one of the less clear mysteries the show left us with. I have only speculations and nothing demonstrably provable there.
      2) DHARMA did have knowledge of Jacob, as revealed in the series epilogue 'The New Man in Charge', in which an orientation video for The Hydra features Pierre Chang explaining the station's purpose. During that orientation he says the following about Room 23:
      "The purpose of these interrogations is to better understand the Hostiles' way of life, their origins, and particularly their worship of an Island deity they refer to as Jacob."
      So, DHARMA likely extracted details about Jacob from these interrogations and wanted to learn more about him. Hence why they added his name to their brainwashing video, to provide a sort of post-hypnotic suggestion so that the captives would volunteer information on their deity.

  • @jprice7
    @jprice7 2 года назад

    Two burning questions
    1. How were the Others able to move around the Island undetected and sneak up on anyone, even Juliet? It can't be the Egyptian tunnels, otherwise the tunnels would be everywhere.
    2. If the Source is the prime mover, able to pull the strings of everything everywhere, why didn't the Source just prevent the Man in Black from falling into the light? If he never becomes a smoke monster in the first place there would be no bloodshed and no need to carry out centuries of plotting.

    • @LOSTEXPLAINED108
      @LOSTEXPLAINED108  2 года назад +1

      These are good questions that I can answer straight-up.
      1. It is implied that The Others went through extensive training, including hand-to-hand combat and weapons handling. We see this with Juliet who, before the island, did not appear to have any such training as a doctor. Furthermore, it is highlighted that there is a clandestine unit within The Others that do all of the kidnappings, assaults and incursions. This is led by the Ryan Pryce character in season three, who appears to be ex-military. Much like Danny Pickett and Mikhail Bakunin, several characters demonstrate former service backgrounds that would give them the skills and the experience to move around the island undetected, whilst being able to train fellow colleagues. I explain some of this in my video on The Others.
      2. This is another question that I have touched upon in other videos. Because the Man in Black was such a key part of the time loop's existence, he *had* to become the smoke monster. It was predestined. The Island orchestrated all of these events to keep the light on. It is creating and sustaining its own existence, simultaneously. For example. There is no way that the time loop will not be fulfilled and that the world will end in 1977, but the only reason that the time loop is fulfilled and the world doesn't end is because the time loop exists and the island perpetuates the causality surrounding it in both the past and future. To ensure this world-saving loop exists, both the protector and the smoke monster need to exist and be pulling strings over time. MiB doesn't realise he is part of this 2,000 year-long predestined series of events, but he is just as important as our Losties to ensuring our existence continues to exist.
      In short: by creating a smoke monster that would become fixated on destroying the island in the 1st Century, the island ensured its ultimate survival in the years 1977 and 2007.

    I have a question that has plagued me for some time now. It’s about the notion of original idea. The MIB entire plan hinges on getting John Locke to leave the Island, die, and have his body brought back to the Island so he can assume Locke’s likeness. The MIB used looking like Locke to manipulate Ben into killing Jacob. The issue I have with the MIB’s plan is where the original idea came from. Locke was asked to move the Island in the episode Cabin Fever. Ben, not Locke, is the one to turn the frozen donkey wheel and sets off a series of time jumps for our Losties that remained on island. In the episode Because You Left Locke flashes to the moment when the Nigerian plane crashes on the Island. He is shot in the leg by Ethan and then another time flash moves Locke to what we will later find out in the episode Follow the Leader is and can be best described as the “present”. Richard appears out of the jungle and proceeds to remove the bullet from Locke’s leg. During this interaction, Richard gives Locke the compass, but more importantly he tells Locke the MIB’s plan where Locke needs to bring back the Oceanic 6 and to do that he will need to die. This “plan”, this “idea” did not originate from Richard. The MIB tells Richard what to say Locke. This is the origin point for the MIB’s entire plan. A plan in which if followed will result in the MIB assuming the likeness of John Locke. The issue is that the origin point, the original idea for the MIB to assume the likeness of John Locke came from the MIB that assumed the likeness of John Locke. There is no need for the MIB to have Richard tell Locke to sacrifice himself and bring back the Oceanic 6 because the end result has already been achieved.

    • @LOSTEXPLAINED108
      @LOSTEXPLAINED108  2 года назад

      Well, there are several points to address here. Firstly, whatever happened, happened. The Man in Black must fulfil the time loop in order to ensure he can exist in 2007 as Dead Locke. To make this clearer:
      MiB has all of Locke's memories once he "becomes him". Which means that he knows this conversation takes place at the Nigerian beechcraft and he also knows that this chat with Richard is what leads Locke on the path to his death. He needs this part of the loop to play out because if Richard doesn't tell Locke he needs to die then it creates a paradox. Because Locke will not have that idea in his mind and it won't lead him off the island or to his death. Therefore, the MiB could not appear as him in 2007. It's a causality loop. MiB is ensuring this cycle takes place by instructing Richard.
      The second point to consider is that the Man in Black's plan is being set-up from the objective present day of 2007 and perpetuated back through time. Locke's interactions with Richard at the beechcraft and Christian in the donkey wheel chamber are both taking place in 2007. And it is these two interactions that lead Locke on his road to death. The MiB is aware of the time travel and is manipulating Locke's appearances throughout the time jumps in a non-linear order. I made a couple of videos that get into some of this. See my video on "The Cabin", which explores what MiB's plan for Locke and Ben was and how it took him several tries to get the outcome he wanted.

      @jayscott867 2 года назад +1

      @@LOSTEXPLAINED108 First if all, thank you for your response. I appreciate your thoughts.
      Yes I agree that Locke’s interactions with Richard and later Christian need to happen in order to plant the seed in Locke, but that does not reconcile the notion of original idea.
      From this point forward, I will refer to the MIB in the likeness of Locke as Flock (fake Locke).
      Yes, time loops play an important part in LOST. Examples: Richard will give Locke the compass in 2007 and Locke will time travel back to 1954 and give it to Richard, who will hold on to it until 2007 where he’ll give it to Locke and so on and so on forever. Eloise will give birth to Daniel, push him to Island and he’ll end up being killed by his pregnant mother forever. However not everything in a time loop. “It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress”. Jacob is not spending a millennia on the Island getting killed by Ben and doing it over and over again. There are things outside of the loop.
      Think of it like this. Abbadon plants the original idea of going on the Walkabout to Locke and Locke goes on the Walkabout. The Locke that has been on the Walkabout does not need to travel back in time to tell himself to go on the Walkabout because he’s already been on the Walkabout. So that means that if we’re saying that idea was planted then it was already planted or he wouldn’t of gone on the Walkabout.
      Let’s look at it from a completely different perspective. Take Back to the Future for an example of original idea. There is 3 Biff’s: young Biff from 1955, Old Biff from 2015, and alternate rich Biff of 1985. Alternate rich Biff does not travel back to 1955 to give his younger self the sports almanac so he can be rich in the future because clearly that has already happened. The original idea has already been planted. I know LOST and Back to the Future are completely different, but the notion of original idea remains the same.
      This could of all easily been righted if the MIB, not as Flocke, had told Richard to repeat the plan to Locke, but that is not what happened. It was Flocke who was the originator which is impossible because obviously that idea was already planted since he’s Flocke.
      I am a huge LOST fan and trust me when I say that your understanding of the show is far beyond anything that I would of put together. I have learned so much from your analysis and it’s made me love the show that much more. Thank you.
      I just can’t reconcile this specific aspect of the show.

    • @LOSTEXPLAINED108
      @LOSTEXPLAINED108  2 года назад

      I’m not sure if I quite follow your confusion here. The original idea that Locke needs to die is predicated on the same causality time loop as something like the compass. Ask yourself what was the origin of the compass? Who made it? Where did it come from? It is a paradox because no one made it or created it. The compass simply exists to go around and around in this time loop forever. Just as the message that Locke needs to die will continue to go around and around. It is hard to locate the origin point of something in an endless causality loop. The compass and Locke’s fate are inextricably tied to this time travel paradox.

    • @LOSTEXPLAINED108
      @LOSTEXPLAINED108  2 года назад

      I think you're confusing the timelines a bit. We do jump around a lot in the flashforwards, so it's easy to lose the continuity of events, especially when watching season four. Most of the flashforwards in season four take place between 2005 and 2007. Kate's trial in 'Eggtown' is most likely taking place in late 2005/early 2006 (trials take a long time to start), where we see Aaron as a young toddler. Ji Yeon is born in the summer of 2005, so the flashforward events of 'Ji Yeon' are taking place before the flashforward events of 'Eggtown' even though the 'Eggtown' episode comes first.
      Later, in season five, the flashforwards are mostly taking place in 2007. Which means Aaron is three years old and Ji Yeon is two years old. Their ages are accurately portrayed and reflected here. There appears to be no discrepancy.
