Easily one of the best guides i've seen. Now if we can get one for someone like Zato or maybe Nago that would be amazing. I hope to see more content from you man, amazing work.

the reason leo's backturned backdash isn't invuln is because he's facing backwards so its actually a forward dash

I'm just going to copy paste some text i have lying around
Midscreen if you FD out one behemoth goldlewis either can overextend with 66 j.d to catch backdash which loses to 6p or high mash
He can f.s into another behemoth which are both beaten by backdash (both the f.s and the behemoth that comes after f.s)
He can 684 after which depending on spacing can catch backdash and mash but puts him at -5
Or he can do normal>486,normal>Kara 842, as a pressure starter which catches backdash if you try to backdash after c.s and puts him in a lot of advantage so he can run up continue pressure, this you can beat by mashing after c.s
If you don't have FD or are just not FD'ing for some reason, normal> Kara 862 has a small gap that can either be grabbed or if you have a fast crouching normal (it's important that it's a crouching normal) you can challenge the gap there even when you FD
If the goldlewis has you in a knockdown and does wiff 5p>862/842, you can backdash the 842 always and the 862 if he does it meaty, if he wants to catch backdash with 862 he has to leave a wakeup grab able gap
      NOW IN THE CORNER
Once you've pushed him out enough with FD he has to start either doing
Run up f.s/j.d>behemoth, this is beaten by 6p
Run up 2d>behemoth, this is beaten by jumping (or 6p if you have a fucking WELL DESIGNED 6p)
6hs>drone, your 6p might clash here so be ready to clash cancel
If the behemoth he does after these normals starts with 4 (486,426) you can challenge the gap there with an S normal
If it's 268 he does after that will ch your mash attempts but he will be pushed back significantly and has to run in very deep to reestablish pressure which goes back to the f.s/j.d/2d counterplay but with a much much larger gap
Be wary that 624 and 684 still all exist and can frametrap from pretty much any plus behemoth at the cost of putting him at disadvantage (unless he has meter lmao)

Please god, yes, make more counter guides, please please, please. Counter guides are always extremely helpful, not enough of them get made. My gameplay has improved dramatically thanks to counter guides made by other content creators. This video was fantastic, and I'm super excited at the possibility of more!

fantastic dive into the RPS, more vids like this would be sick. as far as defensive guides, i think a primer on how to interact with HC's mid/close-range pressure could be extremely helpful, im always getting smoked by roll and never know when to try and take my turn back. another candidate id like to see is a primer on Zato's Oppose and how to interact with it.
great guide, hope to see more vids from you

Roll is really hard to deal with cause it takes like a total 15 frames to cross up so its unreactable, but it also unfocuses the gun so it will actually take like 20 frames to actually hit you. My recommendation is if you see a blue blur nesr the ground just blindly press 2K

What would a character like Millia do in this situation since she has a 4 frame backdash? Its pretty hard to have frame perfect timing in this situation, would you recommend something different with these characters?

    • @jonathantene944

The further away leo is, the less actives of bt.H are actually connecting, so if you've FDed something like bt.S already it's worth going for even with a 4f invul backdash

I actually play leo as a tertiary character that I even dabbled with as a tournament counter pick for a few match ups and didn't know some of the things in here. I can confirm this is best practice against his options and common situations.
one thing that wasn't said that will be useful to most of the players in the comments but isn't relevant to tournament players really is that several of his meaties/setups are raw timed and easy to mess up most mid and low level leos will mess them up enough to get woken up thrown pretty easily. his throw set up for cross up and otg dash through and all those kinds of tricks are hard to beat wake up throw with also if he doesn't dash through immediately on his hdp when he lands wake up throw a lot of leos miss time it and hope you don't notice but once you start looking for it it's pretty easy to spot. having a strategy built around your opponent messing up isn't good for higher level players but just knowing to look for those kinds of things will help vs most celestial leo players who on average aren't very good but just rely on players not knowing how their character works because he's got unique options.

Way to few people make "how to defend against" type guides despite this information mattering to ever player of every character, not just like 5% of players.
I'm surprised you picked this instead of a Zato something something as your first proper video.
