My local bee farm is also a blueberry farm; their honey has a pretty strong blueberry flavor in the aftertaste. No way could I ever go back to generic store bought honey.
Also, something that should've been mentioned is that companies can add up to 25% (by volume) corn syrup to bottles of honey, and it still be labeled as 'organic' in the United States.
People should really buy locally produced.
Local just tastes better.
A filler ingredient isn't the same thing as organic, though. They at least have to state it in the ingredients, right?

I'm really glad you mentioned the current decline in bee populations and colony collapse disorder. It's a really critical issue especially since bees not only make honey, but provide irreplaceable pollination services for our agricultural industries as well. Great video.
But then he went and pushed the organic scam nonsense, along with the false honey and allergies claim.
Organic isn't a scam. Organic foods are grown without the use of pesticides and herbicides. Neonicotinoid pesticides have been linked to colony collapse disorder, and are one of the leading causes of bee population decline. Truly, organic foods are healthier for humans and better for the environment.
You know bees aren't the only pollinators right? Their numbers could drop and between birds and all the other bugs and even some normal animals pollination would continue just fine.
Brett research also connects CCD with single crop mass farming, more so than pesticides as bee farmers have been traveling their bees more during the pollination season to differing crops and having success preventing CCD even in farming operations that use traditional pesticides. Organic farming still uses pesticides and on a large scale is negligibly different than modern massive agriculture.
Brett Organic foods can be grown with pesticides and herbicides, the only catch is that they can't be synthetic. In some cases, organic pesticides can be worse for the environment than their synthetic brethren. The problem isn't synthetics, that's based on the stupid assumption that everything manmade has to be bad, we need to ban the specific chemicals that wreak this kind of havoc.

I thought of an idea for Brad! Can there be a "Brad Does Things Wrong" series, where he shows us what happens when you make mistakes in the kitchen? He's told the story a few times about what happens when you don't use Fermentation Grade bottles. Well, can we see that in action? Can we see what happens when you DON'T use organic produce, or wash it, or let things ferment improperly? Stuff like that?

I wonder how often bees are squished when they bang the panels around like that. Not in a "oh no poor bees" kind of way, but in a "well there's gotta be some in the wrong place at the wrong time" kind of way
Some bees die, but there's thousands upon thousands of them and none of them have souls.
Usually bee keepers are pretty careful about it. This was brads first time and I don’t even think he thought about that lol. My dad is very careful not to crush his bees! 🐝

It looks fantastic because it's raw honey. In store 99%(i don't know the number but where i live it's rare to have that in store) of honey is heat filtered. It's more liquid and clear than the raw honey but the taste is nothing in comparison

Loaded with vitamins, minerals, good healthy stuff. Super good for immune system. Don't buy the processed garbage but get the clear glass jar with thick and solidified honey.
I’ve had this honey before, really good and has a wonderful flavor.

This tip probably won't be seen by the guys at Bee Local, but maybe there is a beekeeper in the comments: You can use a heat gun (instead of a knife) for decapping the frames. Just let the hot air gently blow over the honeycomb and the caps will immediately pop off. This way you have less loss of honey and the decapping is so much faster! Greetings from Germany
ShotRim I've never heard this, I have a plugged in heated knife for uncapping.
Then also have a heated knife. I was surprised to see him not using one.

If they can uncap the next batch of frames while the machine is running, uncapping faster wouldn't speed productivity.

In my town, we're known for our citrus orchards. They local honey tastes like orange blossoms and it's amazing.
Different flowers produce very distinct nectars and that has a profound affect on the taste of the honey.

I just wish the beekeeper hadn't actually propped up the false honey and allergies thing.
There is no scientific evidence that bee pollen would cause desensitization. If anything, the evidence is that the minuscule dose would only be enough to cause a full blown attack for those most sensitive to pollen, putting their life in danger.
Also, even if it could cause desensitization, it wouldn't be doing that for the right plant pollen. Because the pollen that causes seasonal allergies doesn't come from flowers.
Silverizael The way I see it, if the inconclusive "lie" actually helps people (and in this case, bees), then it isn't really a problem. It's motivating people to buy from actual farmers/beekeepers rather than big corporations, and the honey they eat is healthier as a result, because the honey tends to be raw.

My family has a couple bee hives. I usually get about a quart a year for helping keep but this year only one hive stuck around. Turns out one of the farmers who rents one of our fields switched sprays without telling us.

Hedro Wilson Oh you definitely should. When I was little we drove for what seemed miles to the far side to pick in a small family orchard, those are some of my favorite memories, but I never knew the name to go back. Since, we’ve gone to Douglas Farms. It’s a great place.

Blueberry honey is my absolute favourite, and goes beautifully in coffee! And you can buy it locally all across southern Ontario, from tons of different apiaries!
