- With the new GoPro Hero 8 Black out in the shops, many of you may be looking to upgrade your action camera or perhaps even buy your first action camera.
The question is: Do you even need an action camera?

True. I bought two over the years and both mostly sat in my cuboard. Use your phone if at all possible unless your doing action sports.

Good topic, you are point on with the low light limitations. I got a cheap 1080p action camera because I got a deal on it. I found myself using it as a camera to get that funky angles and also not having to worry about if it drops. I currently use my action camera as a webcam for live streaming on RUclips. it ultimately saved me money as I use it for multiple purposes. Keep creating like how you covered this

What action camera are you using for streaming? (i.e. what model)
They are mostly budget models bought from UK stores.Argos Vibe 1080p camera and a Goodmans 1080p from B&M Bargains. I use them to dual screen on live streams. I had a look at your live stream. Considering that those cameras are so cheap, I'm impressed. The footage is a little grainy and did seem to slow down sometimes. You could perhaps reduce the grainy effect with better lighting, but the occasional slowdown is probably coming from the camera.
Still, it's hard to complain when the cameras are so cheap.
Thanks for the tips, trying to go for the dark low light look but the cameras don’t do well in low light. I am also using an old Dual core AMD HP workstation with standard graphics card. I have upgraded to a i7 with
Nvida 4gb graphics so can use the graphics for OBS to render. hope that gets me less lag and dropped frames
@@zulfphotography Yeah NVenc encoding will help. A quad core or above CPU is better too.
Action cameras always do bad in low light. It's just not something they're good at.
Thanks so much for this, I been thinking I'd get one for my trip to get some POV memories but I've decided against it because I'll just use my phone at this point. Fuck paying $250 for an action cam when I have one in my pocket right now haha. Thanks again for convincing me otherwise!

Can't say I'm a fan. I can just use my phone most of the time if I need a cheap camera for whatever. If I see something crazy in public, or I just use security cameras like the WyzeCam when it comes to sticking cams on the roof, or walls.
I mainly use mine in the car. Normal cameras are too big for this and smartphones don't have good stabilisation.
In certain situations, action cameras are great, but smartphones are better in a lot of situations now.
Let's just say I'm still waiting to see what you got planned with those action cameras. That'll be all haha.

I actually did an unboxing of the GoPro 7 and a detailed look at it, but it was all part of a bigger review that I didn't get time to finish.

great video my question to you sense you have both is this im going to colombia in one month i want a light weight camera to vlog with with out worrying about the gimmicks of slow mo, time laps, hyper smooth just image and microphone would you go with the go pro 8 or the sony fdr x3000 and i cant beleive the sony still in my opinion holds up to the new go pro
The Sony is better with audio, but the GoPro beats if everywhere else.

I lived in Bogota for a year or so. Six months in the city and six months in the countryside.
I also travelled throughout the country to all the major cities etc.
I spent a year backpacking south America as well. Loved it. Would love to go back.
Kevin Muldoon yes cartagena is beautiful and colombia in general is and yes i know bogotá why did you pick there ? it’s so cold ha ha ha. my fiancé and her family are from there so every year we end up going back. and you should go back it’s so cheap there your money gets you really far !!!
