- Two federal judges in South Florida urged District Judge Aileen Cannon to forgo overseeing the criminal prosecution of former President Donald Trump when she was first assigned the classified documents case in 2023, according to a report from The New York Times. Cannon needs to step down if she is not going to proceed with the case. She is not qualified and she knows it.

Judges should be banned from political affiliation, and be able to be dismissed at the slightest show of political bias. Not to mention all the “lobbying” that goes on.
Exhibiting actual bias is not even necessary. This was a prohibited conflict of interest on its face, before Cannon made the first ruling. A judge simply cannot rule in the case of a defendant to whom she owes for her very position on the bench.
As an American, I admire country's like Canada, Germany, the UK, etc etc that have non-partisan advisory boards that review & appoint judges. It's ridiculous that in America we have the president or the party in power in the Senate get to pick federal judges

I don’t think the Senate would confirm her for as a potential SCOTUS after all this, not unless Trump wins and gets rid of the power of the Senate to counteract his wishes.

Let's talk about disillusionment. The mere fact that we have this grifter accused of this document's crimes with overwhelming evidence, and that it would not go to trial before his election is a travesty. 10 years ago. I could never believe stuff like this could be happening but here we are and I'm pretty disillusioned already. We have a great criminal system but apparently you can't really work in the 4 years between election cycles to remove somebody who is unfit. We also have a system where the president seems to have way more power than he should have so that he can go and crush these things after his presidency. Then he can use top secret documents to wipe his ass if he wants.
I can't believe the Chief Judge talked to Cannon, and Cannon still held onto the case. The Southern District of Florida needs to be investigated for allowing this gross conflict of interest.

When the Constitution demanded that Supreme Justices had to be at least 35 years old the average life span was 55 years! Now it´s about 80 years. After 250 years the Constitution should be modernised on many issues, it´s run out of time.

This is big news. I was blaming the Southern District's Chief Judge for not doing anything, but it looks like she tried. Too bad her efforts were unsuccessful, but the Southern District needs to be investigated. This is a gross conflict of interest on its face. It's not the way American justice works.
It is blindingly obvious that Canon has put “the fix” in for Trump. I hope she pays dearly for this.

If you dont have the qualifications for a case like this as cannon truly lacks, then she should have listened to that advice from the senior judges. It's becoming pretty apparent ego and feelings got in the way of doing the right thing and she should be removed from this case based on the way she handeling this case.
I get the distinct impression there are outside actors influencing her decisions and actions. There have been too many strange things going on with her " jury directions" and lack of process in the straight forward motions that have been tabled by her.
This trial shoud have been over by now!! He stole these highly classified documents, refused to return them when asked, and then lied about having them and got caught with them in his possession!! I've started to believe that the scales of justice in America isn’t just fragile, it's eagerly racing towards oblivion.
So inexperienced Judge Cannon doesn't accept the advice to two more experienced judges. That doesn't mean that she is not being coached by others. This really smells bad to me. If she is going it alone then she may be incompetent. If she is receiving advice from other judges, she should admit it.

I am a retired trial judge from the State of Maryland. Our rules are quite clear: a judge should recuse from a case if there is even an appearance of impropriety, regardless of whether the judge feels they can be impartial. Judge Cannon is a disgrace!

One can hardly imagine a more obvious and clear cut case of bias. In this case it is not even coincidental, it is so obviously intentional, which makes it corrupt. That the 11th circuit allows this disgrace to continue is beyond comprehension.

Cannon has also been ignoring the court support staff by making a ton of paperless orders (cannot be appealed). For example, she still hasn’t completed the SEPA process. She did try to create a double jeopardy situation with her jury. Etc.

It’s unheard of for Judges to urge other judges to step down for the reasons: 1. it’s a long drive for you to get to court room; and 2)your court room doesn’t have adequate space for paperwork.
