The Russians have made great tech advances under Purina. The SU 57 fighter is 2x as fast as the F35 it has around double the range it has a much higher ceiling and with 3d thrust vectoring it is unbeatable in a dog fight. The official American position is to instruct their pilots not to dog fight. They can only do BVR fights.
That is now a problem because the American's only edge was stealth but that tech is old and the Americans have admitted that lower level radar can see their planes. This is a game changer coupled with their new hypersonic missles and the USA will lose air superiority in a peer fight with Russia.

In theory they could have an effect. But what good does it do if the MIRV release before it reaches the missile? No there are no effective defense systems against nukes anymore... The logic nowadays is that you at best can shoot down 30 incoming missiles but what are you going to do with the other several hundreds?
