  • We head out to pick up a 1972 Cat D7F from southern Indiana. I had preordered an overweight permit but the dozer was way heavier than I had anticipated for some reason. Watch the video to see why we thought it was so heavy.
Please subscribe if you have not already and if you like the video give us a thumbs up!👍

We will do a service video on this machine also so check that out!

The people that could run that is getting thin I’m sure. Met some dozer operators that have never seen a machine with steering clutches and brakes. Lot today can’t use one without hydrostat or gps. Love those machines. My uncle has an old d7 with a straight shift tranny not powershift.

C&C Equipment +: This video-type is *_LIKED_* , as is this particular video. It has been given the ubiquitous _YT_ 'thumbs-up' award, as requested and as is deserved.
The excess weight is due to the _armor-plate_ belly pan, so equipped to withstand the Afghanny I.E.D.s often encountered when cutting in airfields for A-10 Warthogs in that neck of the combat woods. Check thickness of said plate. Gonna bet it's on the order of 50mm, give or take a few to either side of that figure.
Of course, somebody gave that theater away not too long ago. Guess the D7F missed that debacle due to shipping chain failures and _slow boats_ stacked up on the West coast... 🤔🤔🤔

    “What’s another $51?”
A heck of a lot less than a DOT violation not to mention adding whatever they “find” during the inevitable inspection because you scale over without the proper permit.
Some people still chance it and try to avoid the scales. Unfortunately we share the roads with them.

Operated a CAT D7E in 73-74. Blade was so sloppy, you could put your fist in the bull pin without touching the sides. No adjustment at all. Machine was so old, I had to keep a CAT Umbrella onboard to protect myself from the oil rain put out by the pony motor. Tracks were so bad I had to be towed out of a sand borrow pit and pushed onto the trailer. The sprockets were rounded, rollers did not roll. Idlers were idle. Spent a week in the shop replacing the entire undercarriage. A lot of work and $ for a worn-out machine.
