    Beyond the sense of "nerding out", I think most musicians can connect to when you just lock in with your friends and crush a song together. I connect emotionally to that. I feel an elation when I listen to this. It throws me into a fantasy of imagining how it would feel as a band to nail something like this together. You get this sense like these four are deeply connected.

      @@PrymalChaos Exactly. Nicely put. That "trust factor" is something most of us crave from our very first years in life, whether it's a sports team or a rock band.
      I've had a little bit of training from child psychologists in teaching little kids, and one thing they taught us was to comfort little boys who fall down on the playground by reassuring them that the team still needs them. It's not "get up, you're okay", but "get up, we need you". Fascinated me!

    The part that always blows my mind is their timing. The timing on the cymbal hits feels borderline mechanical...and they time the bass drum hits with the bass licks perfectly. I play guitar but I almost appreciate the sync between the bass and drums more...then I hear one of the legato sweeps and I'm back to the guitar again...I love how the energy increases on the guitar get matched by the drums and they actually have spots where the bass shines...it's just so GOOD!

    I've been trying to learn this song for some time now. And I just can't get through it at all.
    It's not even a technical problem. It's a brain problem. I can't make any sense of the sequences. I can't integrate them. I can memorize them, but not muscle-memorize them. After months of trying I'm still stuck playing this shit at "stepdad speed" (thanks Ben Eller).

    • @PrymalChaos
      @PrymalChaos  2 года назад +1

      Quite honestly it's because you didn't write it. I often think about how learning other people's playing can be difficult because when they write it, the use techniques and phrases that naturally occur to them and how their hands work.
      That particular little run that drives you crazy is probably natural to them based on all of the noodling they do everytime they pick up a guitar.
      If you were to write a piece based on how you play guitar there's probably gonna be parts that Tim Henson would have to battle to get through.
      Now as far as piecing all of the parts together, it's because you are thinking of it in bite sized digestible chunks. Your brain is thinking "oh cool! I got through that bit, now what's next?" But by then it's too late.
      Maybe try practicing the transition between each section, like a couple of notes before the next part then continue on.

    22:43 it's both, and Tim has said as much. When they were younger before college and just shredding for shred's sake, so to speak, Tim said that he would jokingly tell people he didn't practice. But now that it really is his livelihood, he decided to be real about how he got to where he is and tell people that he has ALWAYS practiced. Most people don't realize that he started training in classical music from the age of THREE. By middle school, he was practicing up to TWELVE hours a day on BOTH guitar and violin. He wants to set an example for budding artists that talent goes nowhere without thousands of hours of practice, but WITH it, the sky isn't even the limit.

    Unfortunately everything is old at this point. The most recent song they put out was "Look but don't touch" which was released April fools 2019 and that was only a single. Everyone has been waiting on a 4th album that seems like it may never come.

      @@PrymalChaos hey man I know the feeling. I learned of Polyphia through Babymetal because Tim and Scott did a featured guitars on 1 song on the most recent Babymetal album which was released Oct of 2019. So there's literally been no new Polyphia since I started listening to them almost 2.5 years ago.
