Good video, I always just use the factory piece that I cut out . I try to cut 1" out of center but try to leave just a little bit of the round edge on top and bottom of frame and over lap the pieces. I think it's a little stronger and you don't have to buy nothing.
Same thing I do . I'll cut the outer plate off at the seam top and bottom , remove coatings and rust from cut out and frame rail then clean it up with a grinder , tuck the other plate inside the rail then weld it back up . Been doing it like that on 1,500+ hp cars and 0 failures or bent frames .
love those G-Bodies, sold mine a few months ago but with your continuous tutorial. I might just get another and take my time. watching from Charlotte NC. Thanks
Excellent job once again,Jeff!!!! You definitely rocked the good ol G Body... Love the video,Jon should be so lucky to have friends like you!!!! CUT AND WELD ON.....
Well done. One of these days I'm gonna do a notch on my wagon. In the drive way with a grinder/ cutoff blade and a 110v mig will be a bit tougher than the job you did. Wish you were colse to New Orleans I would sub out some work to you for sure!!!
Perfect I'm about to do this to my 79 coupe "devillen" I've been hesitant because of thinning the frame but the inner support is all I needed to see and I'm originally a lowrider guy so a plate on the inside of the frame makes sense too. The only thing I'll do different is drill holes in both rear cross members and slide the connector bars inside and weld them.
Great content. Can’t see where else you plan to strengthen the g body chassis. But How do you plan to mount the arb? My arb welded to the cross brace where you put the tubes forward
Nice video man I just subscribed. I see the plates on the car are from n.c. I wonder if your close to me I'd like to get a price from you to do this and mini tub
did mine the same with 1 5/8 tubing & the bars running up to where the upper controls mount are pretty close to my upper tubular control arms bout an inch away with full tank & car lowered . i hear them hit here and there while driving . took it to the drag strip did fine but will it affect it being limited to transfer weight back when launching? i’m thinking i can notch them for more clearance
Think could you make a anti-roll bar with that attaches to that cross bar you welded across frame maybe attach coil over mounts to it too sell it as a kit
Great breakdown. Did you find the kit kind of pointless? I have the raw steel here to do this, and I was thinking of cutting out the piece, tracing the piece that comes out and cut it to fit. It seems pointless to buy the kit since you're already doing that anyway. Thoughts?
How safe is it to notch it like that. I know you added bracing but isn't there still potential for bending? My old 69 Camaro used to bend the rails not even notched
Here’s a dumb question. If I notch my GBody 1” on both side obviously. Can I shorten up my rear end by 1” on both sides in order to get a deep dish rim installed. Any opinion.
Nice! So what would something like this cost at a shop and the average turnaround?! I know different areas will cost more than others, just looking for a ballpark.
I have an 85 El Camino with a 10 inch rear rim that fits no problem with no frame notch, I want to get a 12 inch rear rim in there is that possible with a frame notch, I know Umi carries this frame notch kit I have full Umi suspension on the car now.
@@betosgarage man this give me some hope cuz I didn't want to have to to this not right off the back I'm building my LS swap 370ci nitrous motor as we speak
Hey bro, is the rear end shortened at all? I am trying to fit a 22x9 inch wheel with like a 285/30/22 tire out back. I am going to notch frame but if i also shorten the rear end how will that work?
You gotta knock your frame back enough to allow the fitment , but if you're shortening the rear AND doing the notch , you're gonna need to get it tubbed as well .
Hey Jeff, been following you RUclips channel for a while. I’ve got a 87 Monte Carlo SS, and I’m trying to fit a 20x10.5 315/30/20 under the back. With a 1inch spacer, we’re just a little off (maybe 1inch). Do you think a frame notch would do the trick or is this mini tub time?
Without doing a mini tub, how much tire can you get in it? I'm wanting to run at least a 295/60-15 on a 10" wheel, but I want it tucked. Wondering if I need a mini tub as well.
When you were cutting that out I thought it would weaken it considerably and how you were going to compensate! We have to give to get when Hot Rodding! Good Common Sense goes a long way
Are you guys still working on cars if so can you send me the address I'm in nyc and would love to do the frame notch on my g body just let me know how much ok thank and keep up the good work
All these months my car been @ RPM Motorsport I didn’t know that was you I would’ve been asked you about frame notching... I need someone to Frame Notch mines
The problem to me wouldnt be the braceing you added its the fact you cut both sides without braceing the rearend first and then moving it up and down man that rear end has to be sagging a little and then you braced it after the fact so it stays that way. And you cant figer out why the small pieces are angled thats becauae your sopposed to angle your cuts to make a angled transition to give it strength instead of chopping it off square that tells me your remark about experienced fabricators and shit meant nothing becuase you have never notched a frame rail before is what that tells me

Man, you once again, knocked it out the park!! good job Jeff
What is the widest size tire you can fit with a frame notch and mini tub ?

I have a question about the inner part of the wheel well. Did you show where you or how you hammered it or messaged it at?
What size tubing is that ? Looks good 👍🏽
What did you use to hold the back of the frame up so the rear quarters don't buckle
Good video. This was a much needed topic to go over.
I have a gbody and never have i seen a complete vid on a frame notch..jeff is froggin talented and i envie his work space
Great video jeff,im getting ready to do this to my Malibu, I'll be using a cutoff wheel and jackstands to do job, thanks for the good tips

The metall the same gauge as the stock frame metal?

Can u fab up a wide body kit for g body? @highpsitv 4:07
Great video, do you have a video of how to notch the front to a full turn on big wheels?
Ive never done it
Would you say that’s an 8-10 hour job? I mainly do Jeeps, but I have a customer with a Monte Carlo who wants a quote to do the job.
There is a pre-cut kit to do this? Who knew! Very cool.

What's an ARB?
Anti roll bar

Helpful video! Makes me comfortable with the cutting I've done on mine this week. Time to get to welding

As much as Id love to tackle this myself is this something you would want to do on an Elco?
How many hours would you say you have into the notch.. that fitting up and all ?
About 4 hours

I need some like this done on my gbody monte Carlo SS
does the cross support you welded in negatively affect handling for non drag application? like if I want to do a mild pro tourer?

There are kits out there like that

All the suspension pickup points are forward of the notch. So it's all good
How long did it take you to knockout the frame
Peep that Packard in the background! Can’t wait for that.
