The Taichung Taiwan factory is where the highest quality Spydercos are made. If you look through their catalog, almost all the designer collaborations, gentleman’s knives, ethnic knives and other high dollar knives are made in Taiwan at the Taichung factory. There are some more budget knives that are made in “Taiwan” like the Cat or Alcyone/Polestar, but that’s a different factory and those knives are more budget friendly. Anything that says “Taichung Taiwan” on the blade however is going to be of the utmost build quality.
Just a FYI...most of spydercos high end knives are made in the Taichung Taiwan facility!! The lower end Byrds, Tenacious, etc are in China ! The paramilitary, Military, para 3, manix 2, etc are made in Golden. The Taichung plant is state of the art!
That's one of the to-buy list 👍 Just a quick word on the detente, if you're not too attached to your warranties then it's a quick fix. Just whip it apart and carefully bend the lock bar over a little further than where it naturally sits. That'll increase the pressure on the detente ball which will result in a stronger detente. Note it'll also make the lock a little harder to disengage and may slow the deployment a little, it's a balancing act so you have to weigh up what's more important to you.
A lot of people prefer the Taichung made Spydercos over the Golden based models. They say fit and finish is even better with the Taiwanese produced blades.
I watch you, The late boy scout and Nutnfancy before purchasing a specific knife or gun. Y'all give great input and detail on your channels. Keep it up brotha. I know it helps me out!
Love Spyderco. I have a Resilience that I bought about 3yrs ago and its been my main edc since. Stays sharp. Literally use it for just about everything. Just recently used it as an on the fly spatula on a camping trip. Still good to go.
It’s pretty much a backwards liner lock. But not..in most of the tests it goes way past a liner lock. After a few years now I love the compression lock. Super smooth and easy to close one handed.
The difference is, the compression lock jams between the blade tang and the stop pin, which makes it much stronger than a linerlock which is just against the tang. The sliverax is also unique in that it has a second smaller 'half' stop pin that runs in a track near the pivot, which makes it absolutely rock solid in all directions :)
I love the handle shape. Its hooks over the front edge of your hand so it stays put even with a very light grip. Also, the downward angle of the blade is great ergonomically. It is at the correct angle without bending your wrist. I have some arthritis in my dominant side wrist, and even so this knife is very comfortable to use. And even with weaker detent than most, my Sliverax flips open fully and quickly, after a little bit of practice to establish muscle memory.
Love the 3 inch to 3.5 inch blade length in a folder no smaller no bigger though I do own knives I like that are bigger and smaller so many knives to buy. I could sell mine and buy a good used car but I love them to much I’m sure some people would call me crazy but then again they would say the same of you love the spyderco videos.
Good video thanks for sharing, I liked the design on this and the blade shape but I like you found the detent too soft on this making it very difficult to flip consistently, a few people have done a flipper delete on these and it seems to work well. For me this is a near miss but a miss just the same.
Really wish they would use carbon fiber and not stickers and s30v is a good steel pain to sharpen and I’m getting bored of that steel wish they would mix it up maybe cpm154 probably my favorite folder steel but no one uses it except hogue☹️.Great video really cool looking knife love flippers personally I’d pay another $30 and get the red weave domino flipper in CT’s-xhp steel my favorite spyderco at the moment.Would love to see more spyderco knives on the channel love there look blade grinds and sharpness out of the box👍✌️.
Barry Bueler Man I couldn't agree more. I love 154cm. So easy to sharpen and man it takes a wicked edge! I despise S30V. I hate that benchmade went to it for its go to steel. I havent purchased any new benchmades solely for that reason.
Nathan Stevens I use my knives regularly and I've found that S30V always chips on me. 154CM is more forgiving in my experience and I love it. To each his own. Hell I even like Aus8 alot. Super steels are over rated for my needs.
Yeah I thought I would use the finger choil more on my pm2 but honestly I wish they made the blade come straight back and get me that extra length. When I stab through things, most of the time the entire blade will slide through and get caught up on the choil. Not a deal breaker but annoying at the same time.
ThisIsAPrettyLongUserNameWhyTheFuckWouldHeDoThatSoThatEveryoneWouldThumbsUpIt Most people think PM2's are good slicers.. They suck, too thick behind the edge with that flat grind.. I like the knife (had 4) and will always have at least one though..
Yea I'll always keep this one but I think it is a bit overhyped honestly, going into it before I thought it would blow me away and be a one and done but it isn't really, bit to wide in pocket as well, at least in my jeans which aren't those skinny things, regular jeans.
Nathan Stevens not stabbing but when pushing through things like thick card board, you get resistance and then the entire blade will slip through, by the time you realise it pierced through you're up to the handle and have to pull back through the choil.
Yeah, you're right. I guess I'm just basing it off other manufacturers like CRKT and Cold Steel. Both have amazing designs but I Know crkt lacks on higher end steels. Cold Steel on the other hand makes great knives and most of them are under 110. Plus what Aaron said is true if it were a USA made knife the price would be up there but it's an overseas knife which should automatically bring the price down.
I wonder what the main differences between the US and Taiwan Spyderco plants are. I wonder if / how much more it would cost if produced in their Golden Colorado plant
I wanted this knife so bad when it was announced last year as a mid season release. But then Nick Shabazz didn’t call it a gem. And so many little nit picks and complaints made it hard to drop 150$
David Leikam copper scales very cool is it in the s30v or was it a sprint run with a more exotic steel kinda bored of s30v myself great steel but there’s alout of great steels.
Barry Bueler / yeah, in s30v steel. I thought about getting the blurple s90v and swapping the scales but the blurple doesn’t come in a blackened blade and would of cost more overall. I also got it as a joint birthday gift this year from my dad. My first real blade knife.
I would definitely buy one if they decided to do it ... 3.75 - 4.25 preferably. Too many smaller/tiny blades out there already. Bring back the old-school Manix aggressive jimping too ! :-)
Great review! Nice knife, but would be better in the $110-115 range.. Don't care where it's made, it's still too expensive. Too expensive eventually leads to clones, IMO anyhow. Just wait, there will be a $25-35 "D2" and "CF" (wink, wink) version of this from Overseas surfacing any time now. All the major knife mfgs. are directly contributing to the increasing influx of clones by charging unrealistically-high prices, and enforcing those ridiculous MAP policies. LOL .. could be worse I guess ... it's cheaper to buy a new washing machine than a We or Reate knife in some cases:-)
Not my thing but I still think Spyderco has some of the best knives for the money.. I can't stand flippers.. I have a ZT 0393 and just a few others..For some reason Spyderco can't do flippers well.. Even if I liked flippers, I wouldn't get a Spyderco...I've had at least 25 Spydercos in S30V and many are chippy.. Benchmade does it much better...
Spyderco makes great quality knives, no doubt. But this knife, while very cool, is WAAAY overpriced for being made in Taiwan. Taiwan and China are low cost producers...it should cost way less. As pointed out, that would be maybe in the ball-park for a US made knife, or in the ball-park for a Taiwanese knife with higher end steel (or something else to warrant the higher price tag). I see this trend in a lot of Spydies...which is one reason why I don't own very many, unfortunately. Just not a good bang for the buck for me.
Nathan - I was not commenting on the quality of the knives, just the cost of producing them. I am aware of the quality of the Taichung factory, and I am also aware that Taiwanese production in general is more expensive than Chinese production (not just talking knives). Taiwanese production still costs less than US or German production in general. There is nothing extraordinary in the materials used for the Sliverax...all very good stuff, just nothing that warrants that high of a price. So that leaves cost of Taiwanese manufacturing...which still doesn't quite justify the price tag. Like I said in my original post...Spyderco makes great quality knives...no argument. But broadly speaking I think they are overpriced for what you are getting. Others may not think so, and are certainly free to spend their money however they want to.
Rog Wann kershaw better than spyderco 🤔 maybe there zero tolerance line which I love but regular kershaws have decent designs but cheap steel were all different I guess✌️.
Kershaw make good flippers. I've owned some. But he is declaring that he Kershaw over any other brand. So, it is a preference based on personal drivers, not actual performance of facts.

I just picked this up, a few days ago. I absolutely love it.
A lot of people prefer the Taichung made Spydercos over the Golden based models. They say fit and finish is even better with the Taiwanese produced blades.
That knife is running on ball bearings that are placed in the bronze bushings
I watch you, The late boy scout and Nutnfancy before purchasing a specific knife or gun. Y'all give great input and detail on your channels. Keep it up brotha. I know it helps me out!
Thanks for sharing. By the way, 5 hours of sleep for just a few months is nothing compared to the life-long love of a new family member. Congrats !

That's a cool looking Spydie.

I’ve heard very good things about the Thai factory so I don’t think it’s an issue

The comparisons are so helpful and clarifying. Thanks for doing that. Good tip about bushings vs bearings.
This knife is sick. I’ll be buying it.
Congrats on the baby! I remember those sleepless nights :)
Congrats on the new bundle of joy! Oh and the baby too.
I think the sliverax is the first Spyderco with the new ball bearing setup. And the original name was the Sliver
Thanks for the video Aaron.

Barry Bueler all blades are factory edge action shots unless I state it other wise. Thank so much for watching.
gideonstactical I was just saying I like spydercos factory edges really sharp flat grinds vicious✌️
Barry Bueler Man I couldn't agree more. I love 154cm. So easy to sharpen and man it takes a wicked edge! I despise S30V. I hate that benchmade went to it for its go to steel. I havent purchased any new benchmades solely for that reason.

A compression lock is WAY stronger than a liner lock!
Looks like the glasses are a mainstay at this point.
No turnin back now! 👓
Keep up the good work man!
Like the look.

It looks like something I would buy, but the price pushes me away. It is pretty high for me. But that's Spyderco now over pricing they're stuff.
Yeah, you're right. I guess I'm just basing it off other manufacturers like CRKT and Cold Steel. Both have amazing designs but I Know crkt lacks on higher end steels. Cold Steel on the other hand makes great knives and most of them are under 110.

Nice. I would say the Spyderco Sage 5 would also be comparable.
I wonder what the main differences between the US and Taiwan Spyderco plants are. I wonder if / how much more it would cost if produced in their Golden Colorado plant
But when is the Lai Amalgam going to be release?!?! I reserved one at blade hq and I’m anxiously waiting
I think Taichung has been having some problems with detent strength. That said I bought a sage 5 recently I can’t get to accidentally deploy.
So it’s a modified spyderco junior.
Nice Manix in maxamet! That's my current EDC and I love it. Got it in march haven't sharpened it at all, not even a strop.
I also EDC my Maxamet Manix. I'm in Florida and having some issues with corrosion. How is yours holding up?
andrew russo its getting some discoloration if I don't wipe it down after I use it on something that's not dry, but no rust.
Congratulations on the new baby ! Also another awesome review bro.
Ever Taiwan knife that I have ever had was a great knife .great video .have a great day .
I really dig that knife....
I'll wait until it comes with better steel and price. Tks for the review
5:15 - After sending it back for a replacement.
I wanted this knife so bad when it was announced last year as a mid season release. But then Nick Shabazz didn’t call it a gem. And so many little nit picks and complaints made it hard to drop 150$
Umm, no but that's a cool looking blade, GT you are always informative And entertaining, but you with 2 babies and no sleep is really enjoying 🤣😝
The handle reminds of my beloved Spyderco Junior Di Alex.
The detent is pretty soft tho
That is a sexy knife.
Cool... still love my blackened blade, copper scales PM2 for EDC. Cheers!
David Leikam copper scales very cool is it in the s30v or was it a sprint run with a more exotic steel kinda bored of s30v myself great steel but there’s alout of great steels.

Flipper delete = 💰
The detent seems too weak
I want those sunglasses 😎..
personally i dont like that flat blade-shape style
I love the design, and I'd like to have one, but goddamn, $160 for S30v, and can't even use the "more expensive cause it's American made" argument?
Looking forward to the spyderco Alistair Kapara
Is there an XL version?
I would definitely buy one if they decided to do it ... 3.75 - 4.25 preferably. Too many smaller/tiny blades out there already. Bring back the old-school Manix aggressive jimping too ! :-)
Manix is legendary!!!!!

Nice knife, but way over priced. Congratulations to you... Enjoy your new baby. 😎
Love the knife but lose the goofy glasses bro.
Very Nice flipper. But i prefer kershaw ones.

Or 160 if had bearings. 160 as is?? Prob not gonna happen.
Tip up, no thanks
Aye I’m here early
