Modwave Generative Ambient to Chill, Work, Study or Do Nothing To

- The Modwave's extremely flexible modulation sources and routing makes it an ideal platform for building generative patches. I had been slowly building and refining this patch over a few days and I was often leaving it running, doing its own thing in the background as it seemed to be helping me focus on other work. I figured it might do the same for other people - so here's around 25 minutes of the patch - mostly just running itself, with an occasional input from me.
The patch itself is built around held notes which have their amp envelopes triggered in various ways, and a wealth of other modulation going on. If you'd be interested in a dissection of this patch (or a video building something similar from scratch), let me know in the comments.

If you use this link and buy something from Perfect Circuit (no matter what), the channel gets a little kickback and it helps me continue to improve my output.
Transparency notice: the Modwave was kindly provided to me by Korg in order to make some videos on it. Korg are not paying me for these videos, nor do they have any say in the content.

Well, I'd be very interested in a video of how you built the patch. Can't get enough of things Modwave.
totally
Of course I am interested, and also curious if this is possible to do on other synths , hard or soft
@@andrew4982 I have a video covering similar techniques on the Deepmind, although I approach it a little differently. I also have a video about building West Coast style patches for the opsix and Minibrute 2S - again, a little different, but many shared ideas. A little different again - I have a video about using midi processing for generative patterns.
And, if course, in the world of modular you are very much set up for this!
Any place with enough (flexible) modulation sources and the ability to route them appropriately can do this kind of stuff. The Modwave is very well suited to it though, for a bunch of reasons I'll cover in future videos.
Count me in! ve to hear how this was built. Thanks.
This synth is so inspiring, i think i need him . My Opsix and my Wavestate are waiting for him
Why not complete the set? If for the aesthetic if nothing else!
@@OscillatorSink SQUEEEEEEE! 🥰
If a synthesiser has sweet spots to be found,
make sure Oscillator Sink is around.
The synth is doing all the heavy lifting, I just twiddle some knobs.
Love the way you give it a helping hand every so often. Like stroking a wind chime…..
Very Brian Eno. Love it.
PRECISELY
Simply Korgeous.
Very clever indeed 🤔and quite beautiful too 🙂🙏
Ridiculously beautiful work! Kudos.
Thank you! It's a very interesting synth to work with.
Ahhh very relaxing indeed!🙏
The next one will have 4 to the floor and funky hats - I gotta keep you on side!
Meow!
@@OscillatorSink 🤣🤣🤣 that will do it 🍻
Beautiful!
Goodn! Nice sweet jam :) Well mixed mate! Lovely .) Feel relaxed! We see us geezy!
Very cool! It would be great if you make a video tutorial on how to make it work in generative mode, how to get this setup :)
I'll be among the first to watch! :)
Modwave is powerful and amazing, I bought it while ago and am absolutely fascinated by its capabilities!
Unfortunately the modwave has gone back to Korg now as it was just on loan, but if you check out my series of videos on the Modwave sequencer, I go into pretty much all of the techniques used here.
Thanks, I'll definitely take a look it!
Sehr sehr nice !
Awesome sounds!
Thank you!
Yes I’d be interested in knowing how the patch was set up. I make similar things on the wavestate (with different sounds of course), and if I understand my machine correctly it cannot be 100% true self generating because you can retrigger an envelope by some free to choose mod source, but you can’t trigger an envelope otherwise than at least once press a key. You can use extreme long release times and the mod sequencers and/or have the key latched so after the first key it will keep running.
Yeah, you have to have a gate open, but you can trigger an envelope using another mod source as many times as you want, as long as a key is held. The modulators are amazing on this thing.
Always good to know where the effects are coming from; internal or external? With effects devices available today, sound can be influenced, almost synthesized with good effects.
Internal. I always try to list or show the external gear if I use it.
Thx Doctor O.S! I have Ambicron. I've been looking for Generative Chillswave to Do No Work To. Can you make it 10 days long? I love those shivering trembles around the 7 minute mark.
I'll do a 24 hour live stream for you (mostly joking!)
@@OscillatorSink No worries. 20-30 mins is a good choice. Enough to nap to. For longer, I've got paulstretch, I can feed William Basinski's Disintegration Loops, Johannes Ockeghem or material like that.
How would you compare the Modwave to the Opsix in terms of sound quality and interface design?
I want to do a video on this topic, so I need to get my thoughts in order a bit more. I will say that I work faster on the opsix, and I do find the interface a fair bit slicker, but I've had it much longer and used it almost more than any other synth I own in the last 6 months, so there's definitely a familiarity aspect to that. I will say that the Value knob on the Modwave is used for too much stuff in my opinion though...
It’s all constructive OS but bigger Synths not in my collection I’m a Modular bot but interesting, wondered if you linked Modwave with OP6 on this generative patch, trigger each other????
🆒🎶🎶🎶🌀🕸⚡️🔱👁
I don't know about cross-triggering but certainly a common clock and similar ideas. The Modwave dies actually have some advantages for these kind of patches over the opsix actually.
only need to add a dusty old drum break and its BOC all day long
Love it ❤
Can I buy this patch? I am on the path of making the decision to buy the modwave or the wavestate.
But this patch gives a point extra to the modwave 😜
Sorry, I don't have the modwave anymore and never exported this patch. I do talk about how to approach creating such a patch in my modwave videos though.
@@OscillatorSink Ok, then I look into your video's 😜 Is there a specific reason why you don't have it anymore?
@@KaBoOpFrequency It was on loan to me, I had to return it.
@OscillatorSink Where you happy with it, or is the monologue with the volca series a better option for leading sounds for example?
@@KaBoOpFrequency I talk a bit about it a bit in this video: ruclips.net/video/73Xxs76fVNM/видео.html
I found the modulation and sequencing very inspiring (it's not a normal sequencer though, so I recommend watching some videos on it!), but for my tastes I didn't always feel super into the sound of it and from the view point of someone who is doing a lot of in depth sound design, the UI is a little awkward compared to other synths I own (I didn't use the editor though). That is just my opinion though and my approach to instruments is maybe not the same as yours.
Can you do one box one jam on the modwave?
I reckon so - there are patches in the library which take that approach for sure. I'll do a video on the sequencer at some point and that might be the hook for that video...
@@OscillatorSink I will look forward to it then! I still listen to your One box One jam on the Arturia Minibrute 2s.. Incredible track! It inspired me to do one track one jam on the Behringer Crave ( its on my channel, do listen).. Thank you🙏🏻

Literally the point. Yep.
